Al-Waadih Fee Usool ul-Fiqh

The Waajib in Islamic jurisprudence is further divided into Al-Waajib Al-Mu’ayyan (specified) and Al-Waajib Ghair ul-Mu’ayyan (non-specified) or Al-Waajib Al-Mukhayyar (of choice). Specified Waajib refers to obligations that are specifically requested by the Legislator without the choice for the accountable person (Mukallaf) to choose between different actions. An example is Salaah (prayer). Non-specified Waajib refers to obligations that are not specifically requested but within known matters, and the Mukallaf can choose one from them to perform. This could be one of two or three matters, like the expiation of the Yameen (oath), where the one who breaks the oath has three options: feeding ten poor, providing clothing to them or freeing a slave
