ইসলাম এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিয়েছে, এই বলে যে মানুষ, জীবন ও মহাবিশ্ব সবই এক ও অদ্বিতীয় স্রষ্টার সৃষ্টি (ইংরেজিতে God, আরবিতে Allah)। দুনিয়ার জীবনের আগেও ছিলেন আল্লাহ; তিনি এই জীবন ও মহাবিশ্বের উর্ধ্বে, চিরন্তন এবং স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ। এই জীবনের পর একটি সমাপ্তি আসবে এবং একটি হিসাব-নিকাশ বা বিচারের দিন হবে, যেদিন মানুষ তার স্রষ্টার কাছে ফিরে যাবে; এরপর জান্নাত কিংবা জাহান্নামে চিরস্থায়ী অস্তিত্ব শুরু হবে। ইসলাম এই দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক গ্রহণযোগ্যতাকে ইসলামে প্রবেশের একটি পূর্বশর্ত করেছে।

Islam has answered this question, by stating that man, life and the universe are all created by a one and only Creator (God in English, Allah in Arabic) and that before the life of the world was God, God is beyond this life and the universe, and is eternal, and self-subsistent. After this life there will be an ending and day of reckoning or judgement, in which man will return to his Creator, to be followed by an everlasting existence in paradise or hell. Islam has made the intellectual acceptance of this view a prerequisite for entering it.

সুতরাং আমাদের এই বিষয়গুলো বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিকভাবে গভীরভাবে পরীক্ষা করা উচিত, যাতে সেগুলোর মূল্যায়ন করা যায় এবং সেগুলো সঠিক কি না তা নির্ধারণ করা যায়।

We therefore should examine closely, intellectually, these points in order to assess them, and decide upon their correctness or otherwise.

আমরা আবার শুরু করার আগে ইসলামী ভিত্তি বা আকীদাহ (আরবীতে আকীদাহ) সম্পূর্ণ করি, যার ভিত্তিতে জীবনের সকল সমস্যা ও পরবর্তী প্রশ্নাবলী উত্থাপন করা হবে।

Before we continue we complete the Islamic basis or creed (Aqeedah in Arabic) upon which all problems and further questions in life will be referred.

ইসলামের আকীদা হলো, একমাত্র আল্লাহ আছেন যিনি মানুষ, ফেরেশতা ও জিন সৃষ্টি করেছেন। মুহাম্মাদ ﷺ নবীদের ধারাবাহিকতায় সর্বশেষ নবী, যাঁকে আল্লাহ মানবজাতিকে পথনির্দেশ দেওয়ার জন্য প্রেরণ করেছেন। কুরআন আল্লাহর বাণী, যা সমগ্র মানবজাতির জন্য হিদায়াত হিসেবে অবতীর্ণ হয়েছে। এই পার্থিব জীবনের পর মানুষকে পুনরুত্থিত করা হবে, যাতে তার কর্মের বিচার হয়। বিচারের পর রয়েছে জান্নাত অথবা জাহান্নাম। একজন মুসলিম, যে আল্লাহর ইচ্ছার কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করে, তাকে এই বিষয়গুলোকে অকাট্য সত্য হিসেবে বুদ্ধিগতভাবে দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করতে হবে। এমন হলে মুসলিম তার সকল কর্মকে এই ভিত্তির আলোকে পরিচালিত করবে এবং ছোট-বড় সকল সমস্যাকে এই ভিত্তি বা আকীদার দিকেই ফিরিয়ে নেবে। ইসলাম একটি আদর্শ বা পূর্ণাঙ্গ জীবনব্যবস্থা (আরবীতে দীন), যার এই ভিত্তি আল্লাহ প্রদত্ত, এবং জীবনের সকল ব্যবস্থা এই ভিত্তি থেকেই উৎসারিত ও এর দিকেই পরিচালিত।

The creed of Islam is that there is only one God that created man, angels and jinn, Muhammad (may Gods peace be upon him) is the last in the chain of Prophets sent from God to guide mankind, the Qur'an is the word of God sent as guidance for all of mankind, that after this life man will be resurrected to face judgement concerning his actions, that after judgement follows paradise or hellfire. The Muslim (who submits to the will of God) should be intellectually convinced of these points as irrefutable facts, if this is the case the Muslim will guide all actions and refer all problems great and small to this basis or creed. Islam as an ideology or complete way of life (Deen in Arabic) has this basis as given by God, and all of life’s systems emanate and are directed from this basis.

আমরা এই বা যেকোনো অন্য আকীদা বা পূর্ণাঙ্গ সমাধানের মূল্যায়নে যে মৌলিক নীতিমালা প্রয়োগ করা প্রয়োজন, তা স্মরণ করি। সমাধানটি হওয়া উচিত:

We recall the ground rules that we need to apply to our assessment of this or any other creed or comprehensive solution. The solution should be:

- ব্যাপক এবং প্রশ্নের সম্পূর্ণ উত্তর দেওয়া, কোনো কিছুই অমীমাংসিত না রেখে।

- Comprehensive and answer the whole question leaving nothing unanswered.

বাস্তবতার সাথে সংগতিপূর্ণ, মানুষের স্বভাব-প্রকৃতির সাথে মিলে যায় এবং বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিকভাবে মনকে সন্তুষ্ট করে।

- Agreeable with reality, and with man's nature and satisfy the mind intellectually.

আমাদের ইন্দ্রিয়-ক্ষমতার সীমার ভিত্তিতে মূল্যায়ন করা হয়েছে, আমরা যা অনুভব করতে পারি না তার ভিত্তিতে নয়।

- Assessed based upon our limits of perception, and not what we cannot sense.

আমাদের জীবনের ভিত্তি এবং কীভাবে আমরা তা যাপন করি, এমন একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় এই মানদণ্ডগুলোর ভিত্তিতে অত্যন্ত কঠোর পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা ছাড়া গ্রহণ করা উচিত নয়, যা আমাদের মনকে তৃপ্ত করতে পারে এবং আমাদের হৃদয়কে প্রশান্তির দিকে পরিচালিত করতে পারে।

An issue as important as the basis of our lives and how we lead them should not be accepted without the most strenuous of examinations based upon these criteria which can satisfy our minds and lead our hearts to contentment.
