يجدر التذكير بأن سورة الكوثر تتكوّن من عشر كلمات فقط، وتشتمل على ما لا يقل عن سبعة وعشرين وجهًا من الفنون البلاغية والأدبية. وفيها إيقاع وقافية متجهان نحو المعنى، مع الحفاظ على أمثل دلالة. نزلت السورة استجابةً لظروف بعينها، غير أن توجيهها ومعناها عامّان لا يختصان بتلك الظروف. وهي تتصل بمفاهيم الكتاب الذي تنتمي إليه وبمحاوره الأساسية، وتستعمل أربع كلمات لا ترد في سائر الكتاب الذي يزيد على سبعين ألف كلمة. وتستعمل السورة عشر كلمات، وتُستعمل فيها الأحرف العشرة جميعًا مرة واحدة فقط، وهي تحاكي في دلالتها السورة التي قبلها محاكاةً بليغة من غير حشو ولا زيادة في القول. ولمّا كان النبي ﷺ قد تلاها على الملأ دون تنقيح أو تعديل، ازداد الأمر تأكيدًا على أن مثل هذا التعبير لم يكن في طوق البشر. وكل ذلك في سياق تحدّي القرآن للناس أن يأتوا بسورة مثله. ومع أن عرب القرن السابع الميلادي من أهل اللغة كانوا أقدر الناس على الرد على هذا التحدي، فإنهم عجزوا عنه، فلجأوا إلى المقاطعة والسب والحرب والتعذيب.

Although the 7th centruy Arab linguists of the time were best place to respond to the Qur’ānic challenge, they failed to do so, and resorted to boycott, abuse, war and torture.
