El Islam ha respondido a esta pregunta, afirmando que el ser humano, la vida y el universo han sido creados por un único Creador (Dios en inglés, Alá en árabe), y que antes de la vida del mundo estaba Dios; Dios está más allá de esta vida y del universo, es eterno y autosubsistente. Después de esta vida habrá un fin y un día de rendición de cuentas o juicio, en el que el ser humano regresará a su Creador, seguido de una existencia perpetua en el paraíso o en el infierno. El Islam ha hecho de la aceptación intelectual de esta visión un requisito previo para entrar en él.

Islam has answered this question, by stating that man, life and the universe are all created by a one and only Creator (God in English, Allah in Arabic) and that before the life of the world was God, God is beyond this life and the universe, and is eternal, and self-subsistent. After this life there will be an ending and day of reckoning or judgement, in which man will return to his Creator, to be followed by an everlasting existence in paradise or hell. Islam has made the intellectual acceptance of this view a prerequisite for entering it.

Por lo tanto, debemos examinar estos puntos de cerca, de manera intelectual, con el fin de evaluarlos y decidir si son correctos o no.

We therefore should examine closely, intellectually, these points in order to assess them, and decide upon their correctness or otherwise.

Antes de continuar, completamos la base islámica o credo (Aqeedah en árabe) a la que se remitirán todos los problemas y preguntas posteriores de la vida.

Before we continue we complete the Islamic basis or creed (Aqeedah in Arabic) upon which all problems and further questions in life will be referred.

El credo del Islam es que existe un solo Dios, que creó al hombre, a los ángeles y a los yinn. Muhammad (que la paz de Dios sea con él) es el último en la cadena de Profetas enviados por Dios para guiar a la humanidad. El Corán es la palabra de Dios enviada como guía para toda la humanidad. Después de esta vida, el hombre será resucitado para enfrentarse al juicio por sus acciones, y tras el juicio seguirá el paraíso o el fuego del infierno. El musulmán (que se somete a la voluntad de Dios) debe estar intelectualmente convencido de estos puntos como hechos irrefutables; si es así, el musulmán guiará todas sus acciones y remitirá todos los problemas, grandes y pequeños, a este fundamento o credo. El Islam, como ideología o forma de vida completa (din en árabe), tiene este fundamento dado por Dios, y todos los sistemas de la vida emanan de este fundamento y son dirigidos por él.

The creed of Islam is that there is only one God that created man, angels and jinn, Muhammad (may Gods peace be upon him) is the last in the chain of Prophets sent from God to guide mankind, the Qur'an is the word of God sent as guidance for all of mankind, that after this life man will be resurrected to face judgement concerning his actions, that after judgement follows paradise or hellfire. The Muslim (who submits to the will of God) should be intellectually convinced of these points as irrefutable facts, if this is the case the Muslim will guide all actions and refer all problems great and small to this basis or creed. Islam as an ideology or complete way of life (Deen in Arabic) has this basis as given by God, and all of life’s systems emanate and are directed from this basis.

Recordamos las reglas básicas que debemos aplicar a nuestra evaluación de esta o cualquier otra creencia o solución integral. La solución debe ser:

We recall the ground rules that we need to apply to our assessment of this or any other creed or comprehensive solution. The solution should be:

- Exhaustivo y que responda a toda la pregunta, sin dejar nada sin contestar.

- Comprehensive and answer the whole question leaving nothing unanswered.

- Conforme a la realidad, y acorde con la naturaleza del ser humano, y que satisface la mente intelectualmente.

- Agreeable with reality, and with man's nature and satisfy the mind intellectually.

- Evaluado con base en nuestros límites de percepción, y no en lo que no podemos percibir por los sentidos.

- Assessed based upon our limits of perception, and not what we cannot sense.

Un asunto tan importante como el fundamento de nuestras vidas y la manera en que las conducimos no debe aceptarse sin el examen más riguroso, basado en estos criterios que puedan satisfacer nuestra mente y conducir nuestro corazón a la tranquilidad.

An issue as important as the basis of our lives and how we lead them should not be accepted without the most strenuous of examinations based upon these criteria which can satisfy our minds and lead our hearts to contentment.
