(1) Siyaam, em árabe, significa abstenção; no Islã, significa abster-se das coisas que anulam o jejum, desde o amanhecer até o pôr do sol, tendo antes feito a intenção (niyyah) de jejuar.

(1) Siyaam in Arabic means abstaining; in Islam it means abstaining from things that break the fast, from dawn until sunset, having first made the intention (niyyah) to fast.
