(1) Le Siyaam en arabe signifie l'abstention ; en Islam, cela signifie s'abstenir de ce qui rompt le jeûne (Sawm), de l'aube jusqu'au coucher du soleil, après avoir d'abord formulé l'intention (niyyah) de jeûner (Sawm).

(1) Siyaam in Arabic means abstaining; in Islam it means abstaining from things that break the fast, from dawn until sunset, having first made the intention (niyyah) to fast.

(2) La communauté (Ummah) est unanime sur le fait que le jeûne du mois de ramadan est obligatoire, dont la preuve se trouve dans le Coran et la sunna. Allah dit (interprétation du sens) :
