متصل: یہ اُس حدیث کی تعریف ہے جس میں راویوں کا سلسلہ مکمل ہو اور راویوں کے درمیان کوئی کڑی غائب نہ ہو۔ منقطع: وہ حدیث جس کے سلسلۂ سند میں ایک یا ایک سے زیادہ راوی غائب ہوں [خواہ وہ سلسلۂ روایت کے ایک حصے میں ہوں یا دو مختلف حصوں میں]۔ معضل: ایسی حدیث میں سلسلۂ سند کے ایک ہی حصے میں دو یا دو سے زیادہ راوی غائب ہوتے ہیں۔

Muttaüil: This defines a úadīth in which the chain of narrators is complete and no missing link is found between the narrators. Munqaøi‘: A úadīth in which one or more than one narrator is missing from a chain of narrators [regardless of whether it be from one or two different areas in the chain of transmission]. Mu‘ðal: Such a úadīth has two or more than two narrators missing from one area of the chain.

معلّق: اس قسم کی حدیث میں سند کے شروع سے ایک راوی غائب ہوتا ہے۔

Mu‘allaq: In this type of úadīth, a narrator is missing from the beginning of the chain.

مرسل: اس حدیث میں پہلے تابعی اور نبی کریم ﷺ کے درمیان ایک راوی محذوف ہے، اور پہلا تابعی یہ حدیث بیان کرتا ہے، یہ کہتے ہوئے کہ

Mursal: In this ahdīth, a narrator between the first successor [Tabi] and the Blessed Prophet ({PBUH) is missing and the first successor narrates the hadīth saying,
