クルアーンの教えの全体にとって基本となる四つの用語、イラーh（Ilaah）、ラッブ（Rabb）、ディーン（Deen）、イバーダ（’Ibadah）。クルアーンのページを通じて、それは繰り返し強調している。アッラーこそがラッブであり、イラーhであるということ、そして彼以外にイラーhはなく、また他にラッブもなく、この二つの語が含意する性質や属性を、彼は誰とも分かち合わないということである。したがって、彼だけが自分のイラーhおよびラッブとして受け入れられるべきであり、これらの語が含意する属性を、誰か他の者が少しでも持っていると信じてはならない。また、それは私たちがイバーダを彼だけに捧げ、他の誰にも捧げてはならず、ディーンを彼に対してのみ専一にし、他のすべてのディーンを退けることを要求している。

Ilaah, Rabb, Deen and ’Ibadah, are four terms basic to the whole teaching of the Qur'ān. Throughout its pages, it stresses again and again that Allah Almighty is the Rabb and the Ilaah; that there is no ilaah but He, nor is there any other rabb, nor does He share with anyone else the qualities and attributes implied by these terms. He, and He alone should therefore be accepted as one’s Ilaah and Rabb, and no one else should in the least be believed to possess the attributes which these words imply. It also demands that we should give our ibadah to Him and Him alone, and not to anyone else, and make our deen exclusive to Him and reject all other deens!

上に引用した節は例として挙げたものにすぎず、同種の節はほかにも数多くあります。クルアーンを少しでも深く学んだ者であれば、その全内容がこれら四つの語を中心に展開していることにすぐ気づくでしょう。そしてこの書物の中心的な主題は、次のことにあります。すなわち、アッラーこそがラッブであり、イラーフであること。これらの語が含意する性質と属性を持つのは、ほかの誰でもないこと。したがって人間は、ʿイバーダ(崇拝)を彼おひとりに捧げるべきであり、ディーンもまた、ほかの何者にも分け与えることなく、ただ彼おひとりのためにあるべきであること、です。

The verses quoted above are just by way of example, and not the only ones of their kind. Whosoever makes more than a cursory study of the Qur'ān will soon realise that the entire contents revolve round these four terms only, and that the central idea of the whole book is that: Allah is the Rabb, and the Ilaah; No one else possesses the qualities and attributes implied by these terms; Wherefore men should give their ’ibadah to Him and Him alone; and one’s deen should be exclusively for Him with no share of it for any other.
