ジャアファル・イブン・アムル・アッ＝ドゥマリーはこう述べている：

Ja‘far ibn ‘Amr al-Dumarī says:

「ウバイドゥッラー・イブン・アディー・イブン・キヨールと私はホムス（シリア）へ行きました。当時、ワフシーもホムスに定住していたので、私たちは彼に会いに行きました。ウバイドゥッラーを見るやいなや、彼は「あなたはアディー・イブン・キヨールの息子ですか」と尋ねました。」

‘Ubaid Allah ibn ‘Adī ibn Khiyór and I went to Hims [Syria]. At that time, Waúshī was also settled in ûimü; therefore we went to go and meet him. As soon as he saw ‘Ubaid Allóh, he asked, “Are you the son of ‘Adī ibn Khiyór?”.

「はい、私は彼の息子です。しかし、どうして私をご存じなのですか。私はあなたにお会いしたことがないはずです。」とウバイドゥッラーは答えた。

‘Ubaid Allóh replied, “Yes, I am his son. But how do you know me, I have never met you before.”.

ワフシーは答えた。「確かに私たちは以前に会ったことはありません。しかし、あなたが生まれたとき、私はあなたを抱き上げて助産婦に渡しました。抱き上げたとき、足の部分を除いてすべてが覆われていました。今日あなたが来たとき、あなたの足を見て、あなただとわかったのです。」

Waúshī replied, “It is true we have never met before, but when you were born I picked you up and gave you to the mid-wife. When I picked you up, everything was covered except your feet. Today, when you came I saw your feet and recognized you.”.

ワフシーはウバイドゥッラー・イブン・アディー・イブン・キヒヤールにどれほど年月を経て会ったのでしょうか。ハーフィズ・イブン・ハジャルは『ファトフ・アル＝バーリー』で次のように書いています。「生まれてから、彼は五十年後に二度目に彼に会った」。14 そして驚くべきことに、ワフシーは直ちに彼だと認識したのです。15

Waúshī saw ‘Ubaid Allah ibn ‘Adi ibn Khiyór after how many years? Hafiz ibn Hajar writes in Fatú al-Barī, “After birth, he saw him for the second time after fifty years”.14 And the amazing part is that Wahshī recognized him immediately.15

歴史の書や伝記者(ラーウィー)の伝記に関する書には、そうした出来事が数多く記されています。第一に、アッラー(SWTH)は彼らに並外れた記憶力を授けられました。第二に、彼らはハディースへの情熱が非常に強く、そのために可能な限りのあらゆる努力と手段を尽くして知識を得ようとしました。この点における彼らの苦労と忍耐は、現代に生きる私たちにとっても、理解し想像することは難しくありません。

The books of history and the books on the biographies of the narrators are full of such incidents. Firstly Allah (SWTH) blessed them with extraordinary memories, and, secondly, they were so passionate about ahadith that they took every step and made every effort within their means to gain knowledge of it. Their endeavors and hardships in this regard are not difficult for us to realize and understand in our times.
