আল্লাহ তাআলা বলেন:

Allah the Almighty says:

{নিশ্চয়ই আমি তাদেরকে পরীক্ষা করেছি, যেমন আমি বাগানের মালিকদের পরীক্ষা করেছিলাম, যখন তারা শপথ করেছিল যে সকালে বাগানের ফল অবশ্যই তুলবে।

{Verily, We have tried them as We tried the people of the garden, when they swore to pluck the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

"ইনশাআল্লাহ" না বলে। অতঃপর রাতের বেলা তোমার রবের পক্ষ থেকে একটি বিপর্যয় (আগুন) ঐ বাগানের উপর দিয়ে অতিক্রম করল এবং তারা ঘুমিয়ে থাকা অবস্থায় তা পুড়িয়ে দিল। ফলে সকাল হওয়ার মধ্যেই বাগানটি কালো হয়ে গেল, ঘোর অন্ধকার রাতের মতো (সম্পূর্ণ ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত)। এরপর সকাল হতেই তারা একে অপরকে ডেকে বলল: "তোমরা যদি ফল আহরণ করতে চাও, তাহলে সকালে তোমাদের ফসলের কাছে যাও।" সুতরাং তারা চলে গেল, গোপনে নিচু স্বরে কথা বলতে বলতে (বলছিল): "আজ কোনো মিসকীন (দরিদ্র ব্যক্তি) তোমাদের কাছে সেখানে প্রবেশ করতে পারবে না।" আর তারা দৃঢ় সংকল্প নিয়ে সকালে গেল, ভাবছিল যে তারা (দরিদ্রদের সেখান থেকে কিছু নিতে বাধা দেওয়ার) ক্ষমতা রাখে। কিন্তু যখন তারা বাগানটি দেখল, তখন বলল:

Without saying: Insha'Allah (If Allah wills). Then there passed by on the (garden) a visitation (fire) from your Lord at night and burnt it while they were asleep. So the (garden) became black by the morning, like a pitch dark night (in complete ruins). Then they called out one to another as soon as the morning broke. Saying: "Go to your tilth in the morning, if you would pluck the fruits." So they departed, conversing in secret low tones (saying): No Miskin (poor man) shall enter upon you into it today. And they went in the morning with strong intention, thinking that they have power (to prevent the poor taking anything of the fruits therefrom). But when they saw the (garden), they said:
