Il est connu qu'Abu Huraira a rapporté la plus grande collection de hadiths, laquelle a également été consignée par écrit. L'imam Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr rapporte, sur l'autorité de Hasan ibn ‘Amr, qui dit :

It is known that Abu Huraira recorded the largest collection of Ahadith, which was also documented. Imam Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr narrates on the authority of Hasan ibn ‘Amr, who says:

J'ai rapporté un hadith à Abû Hurayra, mais il l'a rejeté. J'ai dit : « Je t'ai pourtant entendu rapporter ce hadith. »

I narrated a hadīth to Abñ Huraira but he rejected it. I said, “I have heard this hadīth from you.”.

Il dit : « Si tu as entendu ce hadith de ma part, alors je dois le faire consigner par écrit. » Il me prit la main et me conduisit dans sa chambre. Il me montra sa bibliothèque de livres qui réunissait ses récits transmis du Prophète ﷺ. Il retrouva dans ces livres le hadith que j'avais rapporté. Après cela, Abū Hurayra me dit :

He said, “If you have heard this hadīth from me, then I must have it written down.” He held my hand and took me to his room. He showed me his library of books that comprised of his narrations from the Blessed Prophet (PBUH). He found the hadīth I had narrated in the books. After that, Abñ Huraira said to me, .

« Ne vous ai-je pas dit que si je vous rapportais un hadith, il fallait que vous l'écriviez ? » 35.

“Did I not tell you that if I narrated any hadīth to you I must have it written down?”35.

Le hafiz Ibn Hajar a également rapporté ce hadith dans son livre Fath al-Bari, avec une autre chaîne de transmission. Cet événement prouve qu'Abou Hourayra n'a pas consigné seulement quelques ahadith, mais en réalité tous les ahadith qui ont fini par constituer son recueil de hadiths.

Hafiz ibn Hajar has also narrated this hadīth in his book, Fatú al- Bari, with another chain. This incident proves that Abu Huraira did not document only a few aúódõth, but in fact all the ahadith which eventually became his store of hadīth books.

Cependant, cette méthode de préservation ne s'arrête pas là. Même ses disciples écrivaient les ahâdîth qu'ils entendaient de sa part. Un disciple nommé Bashîr ibn Nuhaiq écrivit :

However this method of preservation does not stop here. Even his students wrote the aúódõth they heard from him. One student named Bashir ibn Nuhaiq wrote:

J'ai mis par écrit tous les aḥādīth que j'ai entendus d'Abū Hurayra. Lorsque j'ai décidé de partir, j'ai relu à ses côtés tous les aḥādīth qu'il m'avait rapportés. Puis j'ai demandé : « Sont-ce bien là tous les aḥādīth que tu m'as rapportés ? »

I wrote down whatever aúódõth I heard from Abu Huraira. When I decided to leave, I read all the aúódõth he narrated to me by his side. Then I asked, “Are these all the aúódõth you narrated to me?”.

Il répondit : « Oui. »36

He replied, “Yes.”36
