Om hun verdriet te verzachten, nadat zij uit gevangenschap waren teruggekeerd, vertelde de profeet Haggai de Kinderen van Israël een profetie van God. Deze luidt als volgt:

To reduce their sadness, after they returned from captivity, the prophet Haggai told the Children of Israel a prophecy from God. It reads as follows:

"Want zo zegt de HEER der legers: Nog éénmaal, over een korte tijd, zal Ik de hemelen, de aarde, de zee en het droge land doen beven. En Ik zal alle volken doen beven, zodat de schatten van alle volken zullen binnenkomen, en Ik zal dit huis vervullen met glorie, zegt de HEER der legers. Het zilver is van Mij, en het goud is van Mij, verklaart de HEER der legers. De latere glorie van dit huis zal groter zijn dan de vroegere, zegt de HEER der legers: en op deze plaats zal Ik vrede geven, verklaart de HEER der legers." (Haggai: 2/6-9).

"For thus says the LORD of hosts; yet once more, it a little while, I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasure of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the LORD of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, declares the LORD of hosts." (Haggai: 2/6-9).
