৪.৪ মুহকামাত ও মুতাশাবিহাত
4.4 Muhkamat And Mutashabihat
The word muhkamat - (sg. muhkama) is derived from the root uhkima which means to decide between two things. It is a verbal noun in the plural, meaning judgements, decisions and in technical language refers to all clearly decided verses of the Qur'an, mostly those concerning legal rulings, but also to other clear definitions such as between truth and falsehood etc. This is what is meant by 'general muhkamat'.
Mutashabihat (sg. mutashabiha) is derived from the root 'ishtabaha' meaning 'to be doubtful'. It is a verbal noun in the plural, meaning the uncertain or doubtful things. In technical language it refers to those verses of the Qur'an the meanings of which are not clear or not completely agreed upon, but open to two or more interpretations.
উদাহরণ: মুহকামাত:
Example of muhkamat:
হে ঈমানদারগণ! তোমরা যখন নির্দিষ্ট মেয়াদের জন্য পরস্পরের মধ্যে ঋণের লেনদেন করো, তখন তা লিখে রাখো। আর একজন লেখক ন্যায়ের সাথে তোমাদের মধ্যে তা লিখে দিক ...
'O you who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations, in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing. Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties ...' (Al-Qur'an 2: 282).
উদাহরণ: মুতাশাবিহাত:
Example of mutashabihat:
"(God) Most Gracious is firmly established on the throne (of authority)" (আল-কুরআন ২০:৫)। Note: The Qur'an verse is enclosed in braces in the source; here it is rendered as given, with the verse reference in Bengali numerals.
'(God) Most Gracious is firmly established on the throne (of authority)' (Al-Qur'an 20: 5).

কুরআন: মুহকামাত ও মুতাশাবিহাত সম্পর্কে
The Qur'an On Muhkamat And Mutashabihat
কুরআন নিজের সম্পর্কে বলে যে এতে দুই ধরনের আয়াত রয়েছে, যেগুলো কিতাবের মৌলিক উপাদান, এবং উভয়কেই মেনে নেওয়া আবশ্যক।
The Qur'an says of itself that it contains two kinds of ayat, both of which are fundamental components of the book, and both of which must be accepted:
তিনিই তোমার উপর কিতাব নাযিল করেছেন। তাতে রয়েছে মুহকাম আয়াত, যেগুলো কিতাবের মূল ভিত্তি; আর অন্য আয়াতগুলো মুতাশাবিহ। যাদের অন্তরে বক্রতা আছে, তারা ফিতনা সৃষ্টি ও তার অপব্যাখ্যার উদ্দেশ্যে কিতাবের মুতাশাবিহ অংশের অনুসরণ করে; অথচ আল্লাহ ছাড়া তার প্রকৃত ব্যাখ্যা কেউ জানে না। আর যারা জ্ঞানে সুগভীর, তারা বলে: "আমরা এর উপর ঈমান এনেছি; এর সবকিছুই আমাদের রবের পক্ষ থেকে।" বোধসম্পন্ন মানুষ ছাড়া অন্য কেউ এ বিষয়ে উপদেশ গ্রহণ করে না। {আলে ইমরান ৩: ৭}
'He it is who has sent down to thee the Book: in it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the book: others are allegorical, that is those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except God and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the book; the whole of it is from our Lord;" and none will grasp the message except men of understanding' (Al-Qur'an 3: 7).
এখানে মুহকামাত ও মুতাশাবিহাত সম্পর্কে এভাবে বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে:
Here muhkamat and mutashabihat are described as follows:
মুহকামা
muhkama:
যে বিষয়ে জ্ঞান অর্জনের আকাঙ্ক্ষা করা হয়েছিল।
Something of which knowledge was desired.
একটি মাত্রাযুক্ত কিছু।
Something with only one dimension.
যথেষ্ট অর্থবহ, আর কোনো ব্যাখ্যার প্রয়োজন হয় না।
Something sufflcient in meaning, requiring no further explanation.
মুতাশাবিহাত:
mutashabihat:
শুধুমাত্র আল্লাহর জানা একটি বিষয়।
Something known to Allah only.
বহু মাত্রা বিশিষ্ট কোনো কিছু।
Something with more than one dimension.
কিছু বিষয় আরও বিস্তারিত ব্যাখ্যার প্রয়োজন।
Something requiring further explanation.
সাধারণ ও নির্দিষ্ট
General And Specific
কুরআনের কিছু আয়াত অত্যন্ত ব্যাপক ও সাধারণ প্রয়োগের (আল-'আম), যেমন সমস্ত মানুষ, অথবা সমস্ত মুসলিমকে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে। আবার অন্য কিছু আয়াতের প্রয়োগ কেবল নির্দিষ্ট বিশেষ পরিস্থিতিতে সীমাবদ্ধ (আল-খাস)।
Some verses of the Qur'an are of a very wide, general application (al-'am), e.g. including all human beings, or all Muslims etc. Other ayat are restricted in their application to certain special circumstances only (al-khas).
"প্রতিটি প্রাণই মৃত্যুর স্বাদ গ্রহণ করবে" (আল-কুরআন ৩: ১৮৫)
'Every soul shall have a taste of death' (Al-Qur'an 3: 185)
"হজ্জের সময় কোনো অশ্লীল কথা, পাপাচার কিংবা ঝগড়া-বিবাদ থাকবে না" (আল-কুরআন ২:১৯৭)।
'Let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness nor wrangling in the Hajj' (Al-Qur'an 2:187).
"আল্লাহ তোমাদের সন্তানদের (উত্তরাধিকার) সম্পর্কে তোমাদের এই নির্দেশ দিচ্ছেন" (আল-কুরআন ৪: ১১)।
'God (thus) directs you as regards your children (inheritance)' (Al-Qur'an 4: 11).
এর পাশাপাশি আলিমগণ আরও একটি পার্থক্য করেন: কিছু আয়াত 'আম (ব্যাপক) হিসেবে থেকে যায়, আবার কিছু আয়াত নির্দিষ্ট (সুনির্দিষ্ট) কোনো অর্থ বোঝানোর জন্য এসেছে।
Furthermore one also distinguishes between 'general verses' which remain general, and others which intend a specific meaning.
"সেখানে যাওয়া মানুষের উপর আল্লাহর জন্য একটি কর্তব্য—যারা সেই পথের খরচ বহন করতে সক্ষম" (আল-কুরআন ৩:৯৭)।
'Pilgrimage thereto is a duty man owes to God- those who can afford the journey' (Al-Qur'an 3: 97).
"বিশেষ অর্থ"-এর (special meanings) কয়েক ধরনের রূপ রয়েছে। সাধারণত এর সঙ্গে কোনো শর্ত বা সীমাবদ্ধতা নির্দিষ্ট করা থাকে।
Of the 'special meanings' there are several varieties. Usually some kind of condition or limitation is specified.
"তোমাদের স্ত্রীদের গর্ভজাত সেই কন্যারা, যাদের প্রতিপালনে তোমরা আছ, যাদের মায়েদের সাথে তোমরা সহবাস করেছ" (আল-কুরআন ৪:২৩)।
'Your step-daughters under your guardianship, born of your wives to whom you have gone in' (Al-Qur'an 4: 23).
"তোমাদের কারও মৃত্যু উপস্থিত হলে, যদি সে কোনো সম্পদ রেখে যায়, তবে তার ওপর পিতামাতা ও নিকটাত্মীয়দের জন্য ওসিয়ত করা বিধিবদ্ধ করা হয়েছে।" (আল-কুরআন ২:১৮০)
'It is prescribed when death approaches any one of you, if you leave any goods that he make a bequest to parents and next of kin' (Al-Qur'an 2: 180).
কিছু আয়াতের অর্থ শাব্দিক শব্দাবলি থেকে (মানতূক) গৃহীত হয়, আর অন্য কিছু আয়াতের অর্থ সেগুলো থেকে বোঝা যায় (মাফহূম)।
The meaning of certain ayat is derived from the literal wording (mantdq) while that of others is derived from what is understood (mafhum) by them:
আক্ষরিক অর্থ বোঝার কয়েক ধরনের রয়েছে। প্রথমটি সুস্পষ্ট বক্তব্যের সাথে সম্পর্কিত, অর্থাৎ এমন বক্তব্য যা স্পষ্ট এবং যাতে কোনো অস্পষ্টতা নেই।
Of the literal understanding there are several kinds. The first concerns a clear text, i.e. a text clear and without ambiguity.
"কিন্তু যদি সে সামর্থ্য না রাখে, তবে হজ্জের সময় তিন দিন এবং বাড়ি ফিরে এসে সাত দিন, মোট দশ দিন রোযা রাখবে" (আল-কুরআন ২: ১৯৬)।
'But if he cannot afford it, he should fast three days during the Hajj and seven days on his return, making ten days in all' (Al-Qur'an 2: 196).
অন্য কিছু ক্ষেত্রে পাঠ্যটির প্রকাশভঙ্গি কিছুটা অস্পষ্ট হতে পারে, তবে অর্থের দিক থেকে তা স্পষ্ট।
In other cases the text may be somewhat ambiguous in its expression but obvious as far as the meaning is concerned.
"এবং তারা পবিত্র না হওয়া পর্যন্ত তাদের নিকটে যেও না" (আল-কুরআন ২: ২২২)।
'And do not approach them until they are clean' (Al-Qur'an 2: 222).
The Arabic word tatahharna may refer to the end of the woman's menstrual period, or the completion of the bath after the period; the second being more obvious. [Qattan, M.: mabahith It 'ulum al-qur'an, Riyadh. 1971.] Still other verses imply a meaning through the context, although the wording itself is not clear.
"আর দয়াপরবশ হয়ে তাদের প্রতি বিনয়ের ডানা নত করে দাও" (আল-কুরআন ১৭:২৪)।
'And out of kindness reward to them the wing of humility' (Al-Qur'an 17: 24).
এটি কেবল পিতামাতার ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য, সমস্ত মানুষের ক্ষেত্রে সাধারণভাবে নয়, যেমনটি এই আয়াতের প্রেক্ষাপট থেকে বোঝা যায়।
This applies to parents, and not to all human beings in general, as the context of this verse suggests.
আল মুকাত্তাআত
Al Muqatta'at
Jeffery, Arthur: The Mystic Letters of the Quran, MW, 14 (1924), pp. 247-60। (Watt, M.: Bell's Introduction to the Qur'an, Edinburgh, 1977, p.64)।]। শব্দটি 'কাতা'আ' মূল ধাতু থেকে এসেছে - যার অর্থ কাটা, এবং এর অর্থ 'যা কাটা হয়েছে', এবং 'যা সংক্ষিপ্ত করা হয়েছে'।
The so-called 'abbreviated letters' are an important section of the mutashabihat' [Itqan, II, p.8f. A summary of the orientalists' efforts on this topic is in Jeffery. Arthur: The Mystic Letters of the Quran, MW, 14 (1924), pp. 247-60. Some of the orientalists suggested that the letters are abbreviations of the names of the various Companions who used to write the Qur'an for Muhammad. Still others say that the letters are simply symbols employed to distinguish the Sura from others before the now common names were introduced. Sura Ta Ha would be a case in point. This is also based on some Muslim scholars' views (Itqan, 11, p.10). Watt, the Edinburgh priest-orientalist, writes 'We end where we began; the letters are mysterious, and have so far baffled interpretation' (Watt, M.: Bell's Introduction to the Qur'an, Edinburgh, 1977, p.64).] in sofar as their meanings are not known. The word is derived from the root 'qata'a' - to cut, and means 'what is cut', and also 'what is abbreviated'.
প্রযুক্তিগত ভাষায় এই শব্দটি কুরআনের কয়েকটি সূরার শুরুতে পাওয়া নির্দিষ্ট কিছু অক্ষরের ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়, যাদেরকে 'মুকাত্তাআত অক্ষর' বলা হয়।
In technical language the word is used for certain letters found at the beginning of several suras of the Qur'an, called 'the abbreviated letters'.

বিভিন্ন প্রকার ব্যাখ্যা
Variety Of Explanations
The meaning and purpose of these letters is uncertain. There have been a variety of explanations offered by Muslim scholars throughout the ages. Among them are: [See itqan, 11, pp.9-11.] These letters might be abbreviations for certain sentences and words, such as e.g. Alif Lam Mim meaning Ana llahu A'lam; or Nun meaning Nur (light), etc.
These letters are not abbreviations but symbols and names of Allah, or something else. [e .g. the letter nun standing for 'fish' . which occurs in every sura that has nun as 'abbreviated letter' in front, or ta standing for snake, as every sura with [a as abbreviated letter w in front contains the story of Musa and the snake.] These letters have some numerical significance, as the semitic letters also have numerical value.
এই অক্ষরগুলো নবী (ﷺ) এবং পরবর্তীতে তাঁর শ্রোতাদের মনোযোগ আকর্ষণের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হতো, যাতে এরপর আসা ওহীর প্রতি তাঁরা মনোযোগ দেন।
These letters were used to attract the attention of the Prophet (and later his audience) for the revelation to follow.
There are also many other explanations which cannot be referred to here. The 'abbreviated letters' are part of the Qur'anic message, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad and therefore included in the text of the Qur'an. They are to be recited and read as part of the suras where they occur. They are a good example for one kind of mutashabihdt which is referred to in the Qur'an itself, (3: 7), the meaning of which is known to Allah. The Qur'an says of them: '... these are the symbols of the perspicuous book' (12: 1).
