4.2 言語と語彙
4.2 Language And Vocabulary
コーランの言語がアラビア語であることはよく知られています。クルアーン自体も、その言語について次のような示唆を与えています。
The language of the Qur'an - as is we11 known- is Arabic. The Qur'an itself gives some indication about its language:
「我々はこれをアラビア語のクルアーンとして下した。おそらく汝らは理解するであろう」(アル=クルアーン 12:
'We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an in order that ye may learn wisdom' (Al-Qur'an 12:
2).
2).
別の箇所では、クルアーンの言語は「明白なアラビア語」(ʿarabiyyun mubīn)と呼ばれています。
In another place the language of the Qur'an is called 'pure Arabic' ('arabiyyun mubin):
「この(舌)はアラビア語であり、純粋で明白である」(16:103)
'This (tongue) is Arabic, pure and clear' (16: 103).
生じる問いは、なぜクルアーンはアラビア語で啓示され、他のどの言語でもなかったのか、ということです。第一の、そしておそらく最も明白な理由は、クルアーン自身にすでに述べられています。すなわち、このメッセージを伝えることになった使徒がアラブ人であったため、メッセージがその人の言語で伝えられるのは当然である、ということです。
The question that arises is: Why was the Qur'an revealed in Arabic, and not in any other language? The first and perhaps the most obvious reason is already referred to in the Qur'an, namely that because the messenger who was to announce this message was an Arab, it is only natural that the message should be announced in his language:
「もしわれらがこれを、アラビア語以外の言葉によるクルアーンとして下していたなら、彼らは『なぜその節々は詳しく説明されないのか。アラビア語でもない書物で、しかもアラブ人の使徒とは』と言ったことであろう。言え。『それは信じる者にとって導きであり、癒しである……』」(クルアーン 41章44節)
'Had We sent this as a Qur'an (in a language) other than Arabic they could have said: Why are not its verses explained in detail? What! (a book) not in Arabic and (a messenger) an Arab? Say: It is a guide and a healing to those who believe ...' (Al-Qur'an 41: 44).
もう一つの重要な理由は、メッセージを受け取るべき対象、すなわち最初に語りかけられた人々、つまりマッカとその周辺地域の住民にかかわるものです。メッセージは、その最初の聴衆が理解できる言語で伝えられなければなりませんでした。
Another important reason concerns the audience which was to receive the message. The message had to be in a language understood by the audience to whom it was first addressed, i.e. the inhabitants of Makka and the surrounding areas:
このように、私たちはあなたに啓示によってアラビア語のクルアーンを送った。それは、あなたが都の母とその周囲の人々に警告するためであり、疑いのない集合の日について警告するためである。その日には、ある者たちは楽園におり、ある者たちは燃え盛る火の中にいる。(クルアーン 42:7)
'Thus We have sent by inspiration to thee an Arabic Qur'an: that thou mayest warn the mother of the cities and all around her- and warn (them) of the day of assembly of which there is no doubt (when) some will be in the garden and some in the blazing fire' (Al-Qur'an 42: 7).
クルアーンは理解される必要があった
The Qur'an Needed To Be Understood
クルアーンには、アッラーからの啓示が含まれており、啓示の本質は、人類を暗闇から光へと導くことにある。
The Qur'an contains revelation from Allah and the true nature of revelation is to guide mankind from darkness to light:
「これは、あなた(ムハンマド)に啓示した書であり、あなたの主の許しを得て、人々を闇から光へと導き出すためのもの――力強く、称賛に値するお方(アッラー)の道へと。」(クルアーン 14:1)
'A book which we have revealed unto thee in order that thou mightest lead mankind out of the depths of darkness into light- by the leave of thy Lord- to the way of (Him) the exalted in power, worthy of all praise' (Al-Qur'an 14: 1).
啓示は、使徒とその民の言語で下された。それは理解されるためであった。
The revelation came in the language of the messenger and his people in order that it might be understood:
「私たちはそれを、あなたがたが理解できるように、アラビア語のクルアーンとして下した」(アル=クルアーン 43:3)
'We have made it a Qur'an in Arabic that ye may be able to understand (and learn wisdom)' (Al-Qur'an 43: 3).
メッセージを理解する過程において、欠かせない二つの段階があります。
In the nrocess of understanding a message two steps are essential:
正しく、そして完全にそのメッセージを受け取るため、この場合はその言葉を正しく、そして完全に受け取るためです。
To receive the message correctly and completely, in this case to receive its words correctly and completely.
メッセージを「解読する」こと、すなわち受け取ったメッセージの意味を把握すること。
To 'decode' it, to grasp the meanings of the message received.
メッセージを正しく理解するには、受信と解読という二つの要素の組み合わせだけが、それを可能にする。
Only the combination of the two elements, i.e. reception and decoding, lead to proper understanding of the message.
コーランを理解するために
To Understand The Qur'an
コーランを理解し、そこから導きを得るために、アラビア語の直接的な知識に頼らなければならないと考えるのは正しくありません。アラビア語を話す人々の中にも、コーランのメッセージを理解していない人が数多くいるからです。むしろ、コーランは正しい導きは唯一アッラーからのみ与えられると教えています。
It is not correct to assume that understanding the Qur'an in order to take guidance from it depends upon direct knowledge of the Arabic language, since there are numerous Arabic-speaking people who do not understand the message of the Qur'an. Rather the Qur'an tells us that right guidance comes only from Allah:
「これは神の導きである。神は、御自身の僕のうち、お望みの者にその導きをお与えになる……」(アル=クルアーン 6:88)
'This is the guidance of God: He giveth that guidance to whom He pleaseth of His worshippers ...' (Al-Qur'an 6: 88).
しかし、クルアーンの意味を完全に理解するためには、その言語を理解することが前提となる。そのため、多くのムスリムがこの言語を学んできた。学んでいない人々は翻訳を利用するが、それは彼らにとって言語を間接的に知る手段であり、翻訳においてはクルアーンの意味が各自の母語に訳されているため、アッラーからのメッセージに親しむことができるのである。
However, to understand the language of the Qur'an is a prerequisite to fully grasp its meanings. Hence many Muslims have learned this language. Others, who have not done so, make use of translations, which for them is an indirect means of knowing the language, as in the translations the meanings of the Qur'an have been rendered into their mother tongues so that they may familiarise themselves with the message from Allah.
このメッセージは、耳を傾ける意志のあるすべての人に理解できます。なぜなら、クルアーンは難しいものではなく、容易なものだからです。
This message can be understood by all human beings who are willing to listen, for the Qur'an is not difficult but easy:
{「まことに、われはクルアーンを覚えやすくした。では、それを心に留める者はいるか。」}(アル=クルアーン 54:17)
'We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to remember: but is there any that remembers it?' (Al-Qur'an 54: 17).
コーランにおける非アラビア語の単語
Non-arabic Words In The Qur'an
スンニ派の学者の間では、クルアーンの言語にアラビア語以外の表現が含まれているかどうかについて意見の相違がある。タバリーやバーキッラーニーを含む一部の学者は、クルアーンのすべてがアラビア語であり、クルアーンに見られる非アラビア語起源の語も、それでもアラビア語の話し言葉の一部であったと主張する。これらの語は非アラブ起源ではあったが、アラブ人はそれを使用し、遵守しており、アラビア語に真に取り込まれるようになったのである。
There is some difference of opinion among scholars whether the language of the Qur'an includes expressions which are not Arabic. Some (among them Tabari and Baqillani) hold that all in the Qur'an is Arabic and that words of non-Arabic origin found in the Qur'an were nevertheless part of Arabic speech. Although these words were of non-Arab origin the Arabs used and observed them and they became genuinely integrated in the Arabic language.
しかし、クルアーンの中にはアラビア語以外の固有名詞が存在することが認められており、例えばイスラーイール、イムラーン、ヌーフなどがある。
However, it is conceded that there are non-Arabic proper names in the Qur'an, such as Isra'il, Imran, Nuh., etc.
ほかの人々は、クルアーンにはアラビア語では使われない語が含まれていると述べてきました。たとえば次のような語です。
Others have said that the Qur'an does contain words not used in the Arabic language, such as e.g.:
al-Qistas(17:35)、ギリシア語に由来する。
al-Qistas (17:35), derived from the Greek language.
「アッ=スィッジール」(15:74)。ペルシア語に由来する。
al-Sijjil (15: 74), derived from the Persian language.
al-Ghassaq(78:25)。トルコ語に由来する語です。
al-Ghassaq (78: 25), derived from the Turkish language.
al-Tur(2:63)、シリア語に由来する。
al-Tur (2:63), derived from the Syriac language.
アル=キフル(57:28)。アビシニア語に由来する。
al-Kifl (57: 28), derived from the Abyssinian language.
いくつかの学者が「クルアーンにおける外来語彙」という主題について書物を著してきた。例えばスユーティーは、さまざまな言語の118の表現を列挙した小冊子を編纂した。[The Mutawakkili of Al-Suyuti7, trans. by William Y. Bell, Yale University Dissertations, 1924; see also Itqan.]
Some scholars have written books on the topic of 'foreign vocabulary in the Qur'an', e.g. Suyuti, who compiled a small book with a list of 118 expressions in different languages. [The Mutawakkili of Al-Suyuti7, trans. by William Y. Bell, Yale University Dissertations, 1924; see also Itqan.]
