নবী ইবরাহীম (আঃ) তাঁর ভাতিজা লূত (আঃ)-কে সঙ্গে নিয়ে মিশর ত্যাগ করেন। এরপর লূত (আঃ) সাদূম (Sadum) নগরীতে চলে যান, যা মৃত সাগরের পশ্চিম তীরে অবস্থিত ছিল।

Prophet Abraham (PBUH) left Egypt accompanied by his nephew Lut (PBUH), who then went to the city of Sodom (Sadum), which was on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

এই শহরটি মন্দে ভরে গিয়েছিল। এর বাসিন্দারা পথিকদের পথ আটকে রাখত, তাদের লুট করত এবং হত্যা করত। তাদের মধ্যে আরেকটি প্রচলিত মন্দ ছিল যে পুরুষেরা নারীদের সাথে না মিলে পুরুষদের সাথে যৌন সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করত। এই অপ্রাকৃত কাজটি পরবর্তীতে "সডোমি" নামে পরিচিত হয় (শহরটির নাম অনুসারে)। এটি প্রকাশ্যে ও নির্লজ্জভাবে চর্চা হত।

This city was filled with evil. Its residents waylaid, robbed and killed travelers. Another common evil among them was that men had sex with men instead of with women. This unnatural act later became known as sodomy (after the city of Sodom). It was practiced openly and unashamedly.

এই সমস্ত অপরাধ ও পাপাচারের চরম সময়ে আল্লাহ নবী লূত (পিবিইউএইচ)-এর প্রতি ওহী পাঠালেন যে, তিনি যেন মানুষদেরকে তাদের অশ্লীল আচরণ ত্যাগ করার আহ্বান জানান। কিন্তু তারা তাদের নৈতিক অধঃপতনের অভ্যাসে এতটাই গভীরভাবে ডুবে ছিল যে লূতের উপদেশের প্রতি তারা বধির হয়ে রইল। নিজেদের অস্বাভাবিক কামনা-বাসনায় নিমজ্জিত হয়ে তারা শুনতে অস্বীকার করল, এমনকি লূত যখন তাদেরকে আল্লাহর শাস্তির ব্যাপারে সতর্ক করলেন তখনও। বরং তারা হুমকি দিল, যদি তিনি প্রচার চালিয়ে যান তবে তারা তাকে শহর থেকে বের করে দেবে।

It was at the height of these crimes and sins that Allah revealed to Prophet Lut (PBUH) that he should summon the people to give up their indecent behavior, but they were so deeply sunk in their immoral habits that they were deaf to Lot's preaching. Swamped in their unnatural desires, they refused to listen, even when Lot warned them of Allah's punishment. Instead, they threatened to drive him out of the city if he kept on preaching.

আল্লাহ তাআলা নাযিল করেছেন: লূত (আলাইহিস সালাম)-এর সম্প্রদায় (যারা ফিলিস্তিনের সাদ্দুম শহরে বসবাস করত)

Allah the Almighty revealed: The people of Lot (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine)

তাদের ভাই লূত যখন তাদের বলল, "তোমরা কি আল্লাহকে ভয় করবে না? নিশ্চয়ই আমি তোমাদের জন্য একজন বিশ্বস্ত রাসূল। অতএব তোমরা আল্লাহকে ভয় করো এবং আমার আনুগত্য করো। এর জন্য আমি তোমাদের কাছে কোনো প্রতিদান চাই না (আমার ইসলামী একত্ববাদের বার্তার জন্য)। আমার প্রতিদান কেবল বিশ্বজগতের প্রতিপালকের নিকট থেকে। তোমরা কি বিশ্বজগতের পুরুষদের কাছে গমন করো, আর আল্লাহ তোমাদের জন্য যাদের সৃষ্টি করেছেন তোমাদের স্ত্রী হিসেবে তাদের ত্যাগ করো? না, তোমরা সীমালঙ্ঘনকারী সম্প্রদায়!" তারা বলল, "হে লূত! তুমি যদি বিরত না হও, তবে নিশ্চয়ই তুমি বহিষ্কৃতদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হবে!" সে বলল, "আমি তোমাদের এই কর্মকে অত্যন্ত ঘৃণা করি।"

belied the Messengers when their brother Lot said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. SO fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism) my reward is only from the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). Go you in unto the males of the Alamin (mankind), and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your wives? Nay, you are a trespassing people!" They said: "If you cease not, O Lot! Verily, you will be one of those who are driven out!" HE said: "I am indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (this evil)

"কর্ম (সমকাম)। হে আমার প্রতিপালক! আমাকে ও আমার পরিবারকে তারা যা করে তা থেকে রক্ষা করুন।" অতঃপর আমি তাকে ও তার পরিবার-পরিজন সবাইকে উদ্ধার করলাম, কেবল এক বৃদ্ধা ব্যতীত, যে ছিল পিছনে অবস্থানকারীদের মধ্যে।

action (of sodomy). My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do." SO We saved him and his family, all except an old woman (this wife) among those who remained behind. (Ch 26:160-171 Quran)

লূতের সম্প্রদায়ের কর্মকাণ্ড তাঁর হৃদয়কে ব্যথিত করেছিল। তাদের কুখ্যাতি সারা দেশে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল, আর তিনি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে সংগ্রাম করে যাচ্ছিলেন। বছরের পর বছর কেটে গেল, তিনি তাঁর দাওয়াতের কাজে অটল রইলেন, কিন্তু কোনো ফল হলো না। তাঁর ডাকে কেউ সাড়া দিল না এবং ঈমান আনল না, কেবল তাঁর পরিবারের কয়েকজন সদস্য ছাড়া; আর এমনকি তাঁর ঘরের মধ্যেও সকলে ঈমান আনেনি। নূহের স্ত্রীর মতো লূতের স্ত্রীও ছিল কাফির।

The doings of Lot's people saddened his heart. Their unwholesome reputation spread throughout the land, while he struggled against them. As the years passed, he persisted in his mission but to no avail. No one responded to his call and believed except for the members of his family, and even in his household, not all the members believed. Lot's wife, like Noah's wife, a disbeliever.

আল্লাহ, মহিমান্বিত ও সর্বশক্তিমান, ঘোষণা করেছেন:

যদি ঘর হয় আরাম ও বিশ্রামের জায়গা, তবে লূত (আঃ) তা পাননি, কারণ তিনি ঘরের ভেতরে ও বাইরে উভয় স্থানেই যন্ত্রণায় ছিলেন। তাঁর জীবন ছিল নিরবচ্ছিন্ন কষ্টের, এবং তিনি অনেক দুর্ভোগ সহ্য করেছেন, কিন্তু তিনি তাঁর জাতির মধ্যে ধৈর্যশীল ও অবিচল থেকেছেন। বছরের পর বছর কেটে গেল, তবু তাঁর প্রতি একজনও ঈমান আনল না।

If home is the place of comfort and rest, then Lut found none, for he was tormented both inside and outside his home. His life was continuous torture and he suffered greatly, but he remained patient and steadfast with his people. The years rolled by, and still not one believed in him.

তবে তারা তাঁর বার্তাকে তুচ্ছ করে দেখল এবং উপহাস করে তাঁকে চ্যালেঞ্জ করে বলল: "যদি তুমি সত্যবাদীদের একজন হও, তবে আমাদের উপর আল্লাহর আযাব নিয়ে এসো!" (সূরা আল-আনকাবূত ২৯:২৯)

Instead, they belittled his message and mockingly challenged him: "Bring Allah's Torment upon us if you are one of the truthful!" (Ch 29:29 Quran).

হতাশায় ভারাক্রান্ত হয়ে লূত (আ.) আল্লাহর কাছে দোয়া করলেন, যেন তিনি তাঁকে বিজয় দান করেন এবং দুষ্কৃতিকারীদের ধ্বংস করে দেন।

Overwhelmed with despair, Lot prayed to Allah to grant him victory and destroy the corrupt.

অতএব, ফেরেশতারা ইব্রাহীম (আঃ)-এর কাছ থেকে চলে গেলেন এবং লূত (আঃ)-এর জনপদ সাদোম (Sodom)-এর দিকে রওনা হলেন। বিকেলের দিকে তারা শহরের প্রাচীরের কাছে পৌঁছলেন। তাদের প্রথম যে ব্যক্তি চোখে পড়েছিল, সে ছিল লূত (আঃ)-এর মেয়ে, যিনি নদীর তীরে বসে তার কলসিতে পানি ভরছিলেন। তিনি মুখ তুলে যখন তাদের দেখলেন, তখন বিস্মিত হলেন যে পৃথিবীতে এমন অপূর্ব সৌন্দর্যের অধিকারী মানুষ থাকতে পারে।

Therefore, the angels left Abraham (pbuh) and headed for Sodom the town of Lut (pbuh). They reached the walls of the town in the afternoon. The first person who caught sight of them was Lot's daughter, who was sitting beside the river, filling her jug with water. When she lifted her face and saw them, she was stunned that there could be men of such magnificent beauty on earth.

তিনজন পুরুষের (ফেরেশতাদের) একজন তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন: "হে কন্যা, বিশ্রামের কোনো জায়গা আছে কি?" তার জাতির স্বভাবের কথা মনে রেখে সে উত্তর দিল, "তোমরা এখানেই থাকো, আমি আমার বাবাকে জানিয়ে ফিরে না আসা পর্যন্ত ভেতরে ঢুকো না।" নদীর ধারে তার কলসিটি রেখে সে দ্রুত বাড়ির দিকে ছুটে গেল।

One of the tree men (angels) asked her: "O maiden, is there a place to rest?" Remembering the character of her people she replied, "Stay here and do not enter until I inform my father and return." Leaving her jug by the river, she swiftly ran home.

"হে আমার পিতা!" সে চিৎকার করে বলল, "নগরদ্বারে তরুণেরা তোমাকে খুঁজছে, আর তাদের মতো মুখ আমি আগে কখনো দেখিনি!" লূত (আঃ) উদ্বিগ্ন হয়ে দ্রুত তাঁর অতিথিদের কাছে ছুটে গেলেন। তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন তাঁরা কোথা থেকে এসেছেন এবং কোথায় যাচ্ছেন। তাঁরা তাঁর প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিলেন না। বরং তাঁরা জানতে চাইলেন তিনি তাঁদের আতিথ্য দিতে পারেন কি না। তিনি তাঁদের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে শুরু করলেন এবং তাঁর জাতির স্বভাব সম্পর্কে তাঁদের কাছে গভীরভাবে তুলে ধরলেন।

যখন শহরে রাত নেমে এলো, লূত (আ.) তাঁর অতিথিদের নিজের ঘরে নিয়ে গেলেন। কেউ তাঁদের উপস্থিতির কথা জানতে পারল না। কিন্তু লূতের স্ত্রী যখন তাঁদের দেখতে পেল, সে কেউ যেন লক্ষ না করে এমনভাবে চুপিচুপি ঘর থেকে বেরিয়ে গেল। দ্রুত সে তার লোকদের কাছে খবরটি নিয়ে ছুটে গেল, আর তা দাবানলের মতো সকল অধিবাসীর মধ্যে ছড়িয়ে পড়ল। লোকেরা উত্তেজিত হয়ে দ্রুত লূতের দিকে ছুটে এলো। তাঁর অতিথিদের আবিষ্কারের কথা শুনে লূত বিস্মিত হলেন এবং ভাবতে লাগলেন কে তাদের খবর দিতে পারে। তবে বিষয়টি স্পষ্ট হয়ে গেল, যখন তিনি তাঁর স্ত্রীকে কোথাও খুঁজে পেলেন না, ফলে তাঁর দুঃখের উপর আরও শোক যোগ হলো।

When darkness fell on the town, Lot escorted his guest to his home. No one was aware of their presence. However, as soon as Lot's wife saw them, she slipped out of the house quietly so that no one noticed her. Quickly, she ran to her people with the news and it spread to all the inhabitants like wildfire. The people rushed towards Lot quickly and excitedly. Lot was surprised by their discovery of his guests. and he wondered who could have informed them. The matter became clear, however, when he could not find his wife, anywhere, thus adding grief to his sorrow.

লূত (আলাইহিস সালাম) যখন দেখলেন একদল লোক তাঁর ঘরের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে, তখন তিনি দরজা বন্ধ করে দিলেন, কিন্তু তারা দরজায় ধাক্কা দিতেই থাকল।

When Lot saw the mob approaching his house, he shut the door, but they kept on banging on it.

তিনি তাদের কাছে মিনতি করলেন যেন তারা অতিথিদের ছেড়ে দেয় এবং আল্লাহর শাস্তিকে ভয় করে। তিনি তাদের আহ্বান জানালেন যেন তারা তাদের স্ত্রীদের মাধ্যমে যৌন চাহিদা পূরণ করে, কারণ আল্লাহ তা-ই বৈধ করেছেন।

He pleaded with them to leave the visitors alone and fear Allah's punishment. He urged them to seek sexual fulfillment with their wives, for that is what Allah had made lawful.

লূত (আঃ)-এর কওম তাঁর সংক্ষিপ্ত খুতবাটি শেষ হওয়া পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করল, এরপর তারা হো হো করে হেসে উঠল।

Lot's people waited until he had finished his short sermon, and then they roared with laughter.

আবেগে অন্ধ হয়ে তারা দরজা ভেঙে ফেলল। লূত (আ.) অত্যন্ত ক্ষুব্ধ হলেন, কিন্তু এই সহিংস লোকদের সামনে তিনি অসহায় দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন। তিনি তাঁর অতিথিদের উপর নির্যাতন ঠেকাতে পারছিলেন না, তবু দৃঢ়ভাবে নিজের অবস্থানে অটল থেকে জনতার কাছে অনুনয় করে যেতে লাগলেন।

Blinded by passion, they broke down the door. Lot became very angry, but he stood powerless before these violent people. He was unable to prevent the abuse of his guests, but he firmly stood his ground and continued to plead with the mob.

সেই ভয়াবহ মুহূর্তে তিনি আফসোস করছিলেন, যদি তাদের মেহমানদের কাছ থেকে দূরে সরিয়ে দেওয়ার ক্ষমতা তাঁর থাকত। তাঁকে অসহায় ও দুঃখে ভেঙে পড়া অবস্থায় দেখে মেহমানরা বললেন: "হে লূত, ভয় পেয়ো না বা উদ্বিগ্ন হয়ো না, আমরা ফেরেশতা, আর এই লোকেরা তোমার কোনো ক্ষতি করতে পারবে না।" এ কথা শুনে জনতা আতঙ্কিত হয়ে লূতের ঘর থেকে পালিয়ে গেল, যাওয়ার সময় তাঁকে হুমকি দিতে দিতে গেল। ফেরেশতারা নবী লূত (আঃ)-কে সূর্যোদয়ের আগে তাঁর ঘর ছেড়ে যেতে সতর্ক করলেন এবং তাঁর স্ত্রী ছাড়া পরিবারের সবাইকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে যেতে বললেন। আল্লাহ সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিলেন যে সদোম শহর ধ্বংস হবে। শহরটি একটি ভূমিকম্পে কেঁপে উঠল। মনে হলো যেন এক প্রবল শক্তি পুরো শহরটিকে তুলে নিয়ে এক ঝটকায় আছড়ে ফেলল। শহরের উপর পাথরের ঝড় বর্ষিত হলো।

At that terrible moment, he wished he had the power to push them away from his guests. Seeing him in a state of helplessness, and grief the guests said: "Do not be anxious or frightened, Lot for we are angels, and these people will not harm you." On hearing this, the mob was terrified and fled from Lot's house, hurling threats at him as they left. The angels warned Prophet Lut (pbuh) to leave his house before sunrise, taking with him all his family except his wife. Allah had decreed that the city of Sodom should perish. An earthquake rocked the town. IT was as if a mighty power had lifted the entire city and flung it down in one jolt. A storm of stones rained on the city.

সবাই এবং সবকিছু ধ্বংস হয়ে গিয়েছিল, এমনকি লূত (আ.)-এর স্ত্রীও।

Everyone and everything was destroyed, including Lot's wife.

আল্লাহ তা'আলা এই ঘটনাটি বর্ণনা করেছেন:

Allah the Almighty recounted this story:

এবং তাদের কাছে ইবরাহীমের মেহমানদের (ফেরেশতাদের) কথা বর্ণনা করো। যখন তারা তাঁর কাছে প্রবেশ করল এবং বলল:

"And tell them about the guests (angels) of Abraham. When they entered unto him, and said:

"সালামান (শান্তি)!" ইবরাহীম বললেন, "নিশ্চয়ই আমরা তোমাদের ব্যাপারে ভীত।" তারা (ফেরেশতারা) বললেন, "ভয় করো না! আমরা তোমাকে একটি জ্ঞানী ও প্রজ্ঞাবান পুত্রসন্তানের সুসংবাদ দিচ্ছি।" (ইবরাহীম) বললেন, "বার্ধক্য যখন আমাকে ছুঁয়ে ফেলেছে, তখনও কি তোমরা আমাকে সন্তানের সুসংবাদ দিচ্ছ? তবে তোমাদের এ সংবাদ কিসের?" তারা (ফেরেশতারা) বললেন, "আমরা তোমাকে সত্যের সুসংবাদ দিচ্ছি। অতএব তুমি হতাশদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ো না।" ইবরাহীম বললেন, "পথভ্রষ্টরা ছাড়া আর কে তার রবের রহমত থেকে নিরাশ হয়?" (ইবরাহীম আবারও) বললেন, "হে প্রেরিত দূতগণ, তোমাদের বিশেষ কাজ কী?" তারা (ফেরেশতারা) বললেন, "আমাদেরকে এক অপরাধী (কাফির, মুশরিক, পাপী) জাতির প্রতি পাঠানো হয়েছে। তবে লূতের পরিবার ছাড়া; তাদের সবাইকে আমরা অবশ্যই রক্ষা করব (ধ্বংস থেকে)। তার স্ত্রী ছাড়া, যার সম্পর্কে আমরা নির্ধারণ করেছি যে সে পশ্চাতে অবস্থানকারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হবে (সে ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত হবে)।"

"Salaaman (peace)!" Abraham said: "Indeed! We are afraid of you." They (the angels) said: "Do not be afraid! We give you glad tidings of a boy (son) possessing much knowledge and wisdom." (Abraham) said: "Do you give me glad tidings (of a son) when old age has overtaken me? Of what then is your news?" They (the angels) said: "We give you glad tidings in truth. So be not of the despairing." Abraham said: "And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?" (Abraham again) said: "What then is the business on which you have come, O Messengers?" They (the angels) said: "We have been sent to a people who are Mujrimeen (criminals, disbeliveers, polytheists, sinners). (All) except the family of Lot. Them all we are surely going to save (from destruction)." Except his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of the those who remain behind (she will be destroyed).

তখন যখন ফেরেশতারা লূতের পরিবারের কাছে এলো, সে বলল, "নিশ্চয়ই তোমরা এমন লোক যাদের আমি চিনি না।" তারা বলল, "না! বরং আমরা তোমার কাছে সেই শাস্তি নিয়ে এসেছি যা নিয়ে তারা সন্দেহ করত। আর আমরা তোমার কাছে সত্য নিয়ে এসেছি (তোমার জাতির ধ্বংসের সংবাদ), এবং নিশ্চয়ই আমরা সত্য বলছি। অতএব তুমি রাতের কিছু অংশে তোমার পরিবার নিয়ে বেরিয়ে পড়ো, আর তুমি তাদের পিছনে পিছনে চলবে, এবং তোমাদের মধ্যে কেউ যেন পিছনে ফিরে না তাকায়, বরং যেখানে যাওয়ার আদেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে সেদিকে চলে যাও।" আর আমি তাকে এই সিদ্ধান্ত জানিয়ে দিলাম যে, ভোর হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ওদের মূল উচ্ছেদ করে ফেলা হবে। শহরের অধিবাসীরা আনন্দিত হয়ে ছুটে এলো (তরুণদের আগমনের সংবাদ শুনে)। লূত বলল,

Then when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lot, he said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." They said: "Nay! we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning The inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). Lot said:

লুত (আঃ)-এর কওমের উপর একটি অধ্যায় বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে। তাদের জনপদ ও নাম পৃথিবীর বুক থেকে মুছে ফেলা হয়েছে। স্মৃতি থেকেও তারা হারিয়ে গেছে। দুর্নীতির গ্রন্থসমূহের মধ্য থেকে একটি গ্রন্থ বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। লুত (আঃ) ইবরাহীম (আঃ)-এর উদ্দেশে যাত্রা করলেন। তিনি তাঁর কাছে গেলেন, এবং যখন তিনি তাঁর কওমের কাহিনী বর্ণনা করলেন, তখন বিস্মিত হলেন এই জেনে যে ইবরাহীম (আঃ) তা আগে থেকেই জানতেন।

The book was closed on the people of Lot (pbuh). Their towns and names have been erased from the face of the earth. Gone are they from memory. One book was closed of the books of corruption. Lot (pbuh) proceeded towards Abraham (pbuh). HE visited him, and when he recounted the story of his people, he was surprised to learn that Abraham (pbuh) already knew.

এভাবে লূত (আঃ) আল্লাহর দিকে মানুষকে আহ্বান করতে থাকলেন, এবং ইবরাহীম (আঃ) ও তেমনই করলেন — সেই ধৈর্যশীল, যিনি বিনীতভাবে আল্লাহর দিকে ফিরে এসেছিলেন। এই দুজনই তাঁদের দায়িত্বে অবিচল রইলেন।

So Lut (pbuh) continued to invite people to Allah, as did Abraham (pbuh), the patient one who turned to Allah repentantly, and the two held firm to their mission.
