সুলাইমান (আলাইহিস সালাম) দাউদ (আলাইহিস সালাম)-এর নবুওয়াত ও রাজত্বের উত্তরাধিকারী হয়েছিলেন। এটি কোনো বস্তুগত উত্তরাধিকার ছিল না, কারণ নবীগণ তাঁদের সম্পত্তি উত্তরাধিকার হিসেবে রেখে যান না। তা দরিদ্র ও অভাবী মানুষের মধ্যে দান করা হয়, নিকটাত্মীয়দের মধ্যে নয়। নবী মুহাম্মাদ ﷺ বলেছেন: "নবীগণের সম্পত্তির উত্তরাধিকার হয় না, আমরা যা রেখে যাই তা সাদাকাহ হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হবে।" (সহীহ আল-বুখারী)

Solomon inherited David's prophethood and dominion. This was not a material inheritance, as prophets do not bequeath their property. It is given away to the poor and needy, not to their relatives. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: "The prophets' property will not be inherited, and whatever we leave is to be used for charity." (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

"আর অবশ্যই আমি দাউদ ও সুলায়মানকে জ্ঞান দান করেছিলাম, আর তারা উভয়ে বলেছিল: "সমস্ত প্রশংসা ও কৃতজ্ঞতা আল্লাহর, যিনি তাঁর বহু মুমিন বান্দার উপর আমাদের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব দিয়েছেন!" আর সুলায়মান দাউদের (জ্ঞানের) উত্তরাধিকারী হলেন। তিনি বললেন: "হে মানবজাতি! আমাদেরকে পাখিদের ভাষা শেখানো হয়েছে, আর আমাদেরকে সবকিছু দেওয়া হয়েছে। নিশ্চয়ই এটি (আল্লাহর পক্ষ থেকে) একটি সুস্পষ্ট অনুগ্রহ।" আর সুলায়মানের সামনে তাঁর সেনাবাহিনী, জিন, মানুষ ও পাখিদের সমবেত করা হলো, আর তাদের সবাইকে বিন্যস্ত সারিতে (অগ্রসর হওয়ার জন্য) রাখা হলো। (সূরা নামল, ২৭:১৫-১৭, কুরআন)

"And indeed We gave knowledge to David and Solomon, and they both said: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has preferred us above many of His believing slaves!" And Solomon inherited (the knowledge of) David. He said: "O mankind! We have been taught the language of birds, and on us have been bestowed all things. This, verily, is an evident grace (from Allah)." And there were gathered before Solomon his hosts of jinns and men, and birds, and they were all set in battle order (marching forwards). (Ch 27:15-17 Quran).

পিতার মৃত্যুর পর সোলাইমান বাদশাহ হলেন। তিনি আল্লাহর কাছে এমন এক রাজত্ব প্রার্থনা করলেন, যেমন রাজত্ব তাঁর পরে আর কারও হবে না, এবং আল্লাহ তাঁর প্রার্থনা কবুল করলেন। প্রজ্ঞার পাশাপাশি আল্লাহ সোলাইমানকে আরও অনেক ক্ষমতা দান করেছিলেন। তিনি বাতাসকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারতেন, পাখি ও পশুর ভাষা বুঝতেন এবং তাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে পারতেন। আল্লাহ তাঁকে নির্দেশ দিলেন, তিনি যেন মানুষ ও জিনদের মাটি খনন করতে, তার খনিজ উত্তোলন করতে এবং তা দিয়ে যন্ত্রপাতি ও অস্ত্র তৈরি করতে শেখান। আরও তিনি তাঁকে একটি তামার খনি দান করেছিলেন, যা সেকালে ছিল দুর্লভ ধাতু।

After his father's death, Solomon became king. He begged Allah for a kingdom such as none after him would have, and Allah granted his wish. Besides wisdom, Allah had blessed Solomon with many abilities. He could command the winds and understand and talk to birds and animals. Allah directed him to teach both men and jinns to mine the earth and extract its minerals to make tools and weapons. He also favored him with a mine of copper, which was a rare metal in those days.

তাঁর সময়ে ঘোড়াই ছিল পরিবহনের প্রচলিত মাধ্যম। প্রতিরক্ষা, সৈন্য বহন এবং রসদ ও যুদ্ধাস্ত্র টানার জন্য এরা ছিল অত্যন্ত অপরিহার্য। এই প্রাণীগুলোর যত্ন নেওয়া হতো ভালোভাবে এবং প্রশিক্ষণও দেওয়া হতো সুষ্ঠুভাবে। একদিন সুলাইমান তাঁর আস্তাবলের ঘোড়াগুলোর একটি মিছিল পরিদর্শন করছিলেন। ঘোড়াগুলোর সুস্বাস্থ্য, সৌন্দর্য ও ভঙ্গি তাঁকে এতটাই মুগ্ধ করল যে তিনি ক্রমাগত সেগুলোর গায়ে হাত বুলাতে থাকলেন এবং সেগুলোর প্রশংসা করতে লাগলেন। সূর্য প্রায় অস্ত যাচ্ছিল, আর মধ্যবর্তী সালাতের সময়ও পেরিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। যখন তিনি এটা বুঝতে পারলেন, তখন বলে উঠলেন: "আমি নিশ্চয়ই আমার রবের ইবাদতের চেয়ে জীবনের এই সুন্দর জিনিসগুলোকে বেশি ভালোবাসি! এগুলো আমার কাছে ফিরিয়ে আনো।"

During his time horses were the common mode of transportation. They were very essential for defense, to carry soldiers and cart provisions and weapons of war. The animals were well cared for and well trained. One day Solomon was reviewing a parade of his stable. The fitness, beauty and posture of the horses fascinated him so much that he kept on stroking and admiring them. The sun was nearly setting, and the time for the middle prayer was passing by. When he realized this, he exclaimed: "I surely love the finer things of life than the service of my Lord! Return them to me."

মহান আল্লাহ বলেছেন:

Almighty Allah revealed:

আর দাউদকে আমি দান করেছিলাম সুলাইমান। কতই না উত্তম বান্দা! নিশ্চয়ই সে ছিল (আমার প্রতি) অধিক প্রত্যাবর্তনশীল। যখন তার সামনে বিকেলবেলা উপস্থিত করা হলো উৎকৃষ্ট জাতের সুশিক্ষিত ঘোড়াগুলো (আল্লাহর পথে জিহাদের জন্য)। তখন সে বলল, "আমি তো উত্তম বস্তুর (এই ঘোড়াগুলোর) প্রতি ভালোবাসায় মগ্ন হয়ে পড়েছি, আমার প্রতিপালককে স্মরণ করা থেকে বিরত থেকেছি (আমার আসরের সালাত থেকে)," এমনকি সূর্য রাতের আবরণে লুকিয়ে যাওয়া পর্যন্ত (সময় অতিবাহিত হয়ে গেল)। অতঃপর সে বলল, "ঘোড়াগুলোকে আমার কাছে ফিরিয়ে আনো।" তারপর সে সেগুলোর পা ও ঘাড়ের উপর হাত বুলাতে লাগল (পরিদর্শন শেষ হওয়া পর্যন্ত)।

"And to David We gave Solomon. How excellent a slave! Verily, he was ever oft returning in repentance (to Us)! When there were displayed before him, in the afternoon, well-trained horses of the highest breed (for jihad in Allah's cause). And he said: "Alas! I did love the good (these horses) instead of remembering my Lord (in my 'Asr prayer)" till the time was over, and the sun had hidden in the veil of the night. Then he said: "Bring them (horses) back to me." Then he began to pass his hand over their legs and their necks (till the end of the display).

নিশ্চয়ই আমি সুলাইমানকে পরীক্ষা করেছিলাম এবং তার সিংহাসনের উপর একটি দেহ স্থাপন করেছিলাম, (সে একটি শয়তান, তাই সে কিছু সময়ের জন্য তার রাজত্ব হারিয়েছিল), কিন্তু সে ফিরে এসেছিল (আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহে তার সিংহাসন ও রাজত্বে ফিরে এসেছিল) এবং আনুগত্য ও তওবার সাথে আল্লাহর দিকে ফিরে এসেছিল। সে বলল: "হে আমার প্রতিপালক! আমাকে ক্ষমা করুন এবং আমাকে এমন একটি রাজত্ব দান করুন যা আমার পরে আর কারও জন্য উপযুক্ত হবে না। নিশ্চয়ই আপনি মহান দাতা।" অতঃপর, আমি তার অধীন করে দিলাম বাতাসকে, তা তার আদেশে যেখানে ইচ্ছা মৃদুভাবে প্রবাহিত হতো, এবং শয়তানদেরকেও, জিনদের মধ্য থেকে, যাদের মধ্যে ছিল প্রতিটি প্রকার নির্মাতা ও ডুবুরি, এবং অন্যান্য যারা শৃঙ্খলে আবদ্ধ ছিল। (আল্লাহর উক্তি সুলাইমানের প্রতি): "এটি আমার দান, অতএব তুমি দান করো বা আটকে রাখো, এর কোনো হিসাব নেওয়া হবে না।" আর নিশ্চয়ই, তিনি আমার নিকট বিশেষ নৈকট্য ও উত্তম পরিণামস্থল জান্নাত লাভ করেছিলেন।

And indeed We did try Solomon and We placed on his throne Jasadan (a devil, so he lost his kingdom for a while) but he did return (to his throne and kingdom by the Grace of Allah and he did return) to Allah with obedience and in repentance. He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me. Verily, You are the Bestower." So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed, and also the devils from the jinns including every kind of builder and diver, and also other bound in fetters. (Saying of Allah to Solomon): "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked." And verily, he enjoyed a near access to Us, and a good final return Paradise.

একদিন সুলাইমান তাঁর সৈন্যবাহিনীকে একত্র করলেন, যাদের মধ্যে ছিল বিভিন্ন দল—মানুষ, জিন, পাখি ও পশু। তিনি তাদের নিয়ে আসকালন দেশের দিকে অগ্রসর হলেন।

One day Solomon gathered his army, which had different battalions of men, jinns, birds, and animals. He marched them to the country of Askalon.

একটি উপত্যকা অতিক্রম করার সময় একটি পিঁপড়ে অগ্রসরমান সৈন্যবাহিনী দেখতে পেল এবং অন্য পিঁপড়েদের সতর্ক করার জন্য চিৎকার করে বলল, "তোমরা নিজেদের ঘরে দৌড়ে যাও! নইলে অজ্ঞাতসারে সুলাইমান ও তাঁর সৈন্যবাহিনী তোমাদের পিষে ফেলতে পারে!" পিঁপড়ের সেই চিৎকার শুনে সুলাইমান হাসলেন। তিনি আনন্দিত হলেন যে, পিঁপড়েটি তাঁকে একজন নবী বলে জানে, যিনি ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে আল্লাহর সৃষ্টির ক্ষতি করবেন না। তিনি পিঁপড়েদের প্রাণ রক্ষা করার জন্য আল্লাহর প্রশংসা করলেন।

While they were passing through a valley, an ant saw the approaching army and cried out to warn the other ants: "Run to your homes! Otherwise, unaware, Solomon and his army might crush you!" Solomon, hearing the cry of the ant, smiled. He was glad that the ant knew him to be a prophet who would not intentionally harm Allah's creation. He thanked Allah for saving the ants' lives.

আল্লাহ, সর্বশক্তিমান, বর্ণনা করেছেন: "আর সুলাইমানের সামনে তাঁর সৈন্যবাহিনী জিন, মানুষ ও পাখিদের একত্র করা হলো এবং তাদেরকে শ্রেণিবদ্ধ করা হলো। অবশেষে যখন তারা পিঁপড়ার উপত্যকায় পৌঁছাল, তখন একটি পিঁপড়া বলল: 'হে পিঁপড়ার দল! তোমরা তোমাদের বাসস্থানে প্রবেশ করো, যেন সুলাইমান ও তাঁর সৈন্যবাহিনী তোমাদের পিষে না ফেলে, আর তারা তা টেরও না পায়।' তখন সে (সুলাইমান) তার কথায় মুচকি হাসলেন এবং বললেন: 'হে আমার প্রতিপালক! আমাকে সামর্থ্য দাও, যেন আমি তোমার সেই অনুগ্রহের জন্য কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করতে পারি, যা তুমি আমাকে ও আমার পিতামাতাকে দান করেছ, এবং আমি যেন এমন সৎকর্ম করতে পারি যা তোমার সন্তুষ্টি লাভ করে, আর তোমার রহমতে আমাকে তোমার সৎকর্মশীল বান্দাদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত করো।'" (সূরা নামল, ২৭:১৭-১৯, কুরআন)

Allah the Almighty narrated: And there were gathered before Solomon his hosts of jinns and men, and birds, and they all were set in battle order (marching forwards). Till, when they came to a valley of the ants, one of the ants said: "O ants! Enter your dwellings, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you, while they perceive not." So he (Solomon) smiled, amused at her speech and said: "My Lord! Inspire and bestow upon me the power and ability that I maybe grateful for Your Favors which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds that will please You, and admit me by Your Mercy among Your righteous slaves." (Ch 27:17-19 Quran).

জেরুজালেমে, এক বিশাল পাথরের উপর, সুলাইমান (আঃ) মানুষকে আল্লাহর ইবাদতের দিকে আকৃষ্ট করার জন্য একটি সুন্দর উপাসনালয় নির্মাণ করেন। আজ এই স্থাপনাটি "দ্য ডোম অফ দ্য রক" নামে পরিচিত। সেখান থেকে একদল বিপুল সংখ্যক অনুসারী সুলাইমানের সঙ্গে মক্কার পবিত্র মসজিদের উদ্দেশ্যে হজ্জযাত্রায় যোগ দেয়। তাদের হজ্জ সম্পন্ন হলে তারা ইয়েমেনে যায় এবং সানা শহরে পৌঁছায়। তাদের শহরজুড়ে পানি সরবরাহের বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত পদ্ধতি দেখে সুলাইমান মুগ্ধ হন। তিনি নিজের দেশেও অনুরূপ পানি ব্যবস্থা গড়ে তুলতে আগ্রহী ছিলেন, কিন্তু সেখানে যথেষ্ট ঝরনা ছিল না।

In Jerusalem, on a huge rock, Solomon built a beautiful temple to draw the people to worship Allah. Today this building is known as "The Dome of the Rock." From there, a large band of followers joined Solomon on pilgrimage to the Holy Mosque in Mecca. After they had completed their hajj, they traveled to Yemen and arrived in the city of San'a. Solomon was impressed by their clever method of channeling water all over their cities. He was keen to build similar water systems in his own country but did not have enough springs.

তিনি হুদহুদ পাখিটির খোঁজে বের হলেন, যা মাটির নিচের পানি শনাক্ত করতে পারত। তিনি সবখানে হুদহুদের কাছে ডাক পাঠালেন যেন সে তার কাছে আসে, কিন্তু তাকে কোথাও পাওয়া গেল না। রাগান্বিত হয়ে তিনি ঘোষণা করলেন যে, পাখিটির অনুপস্থিতির যথেষ্ট কারণ না থাকলে তিনি তাকে কঠোর শাস্তি দেবেন।

He set out to find the hoopoe bird, which could detect water under the ground. He sent signals all over the hoopoe to call on him, but it was nowhere to be found. In anger, he declared that unless the bird had a good reason for its absence, he would punish it severely.

অবশেষে হুদহুদ সুলাইমানের কাছে এলো এবং তার বিলম্বের কারণ ব্যাখ্যা করলো। "আমি এমন একটি বিষয় জেনেছি যা আপনার জানা নেই। আমি সাবা (Sab'a) থেকে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সংবাদ নিয়ে এসেছি।" সুলাইমান কৌতূহলী হয়ে উঠলেন এবং তাঁর রাগ প্রশমিত হলো। পাখিটি বলে চললো: "সাবা (Sab'a)-এর শাসন করেন বিলকিস (Bilqis) নামের এক রানী, যাঁর সবকিছুরই প্রাচুর্য রয়েছে, এমনকি রয়েছে একটি চমৎকার সিংহাসনও।

The hoopoe eventually came to Solomon and explained the reason for its delay. "I have discovered something of which you are not aware. I have come from Sheba (Sab'a) with important news." Solomon became curious, and his anger subsided. The bird continued: "Sab'a is ruled by a queen named Bilkis (Bilqis), who has plenty of everything, including a splendid throne.

কিন্তু এত সম্পদ থাকা সত্ত্বেও, শয়তান তার হৃদয়ে এবং তার জাতির হৃদয়ে প্রবেশ করেছে। সে তাদের মনের উপর সম্পূর্ণ কর্তৃত্ব করে। আমি জেনে স্তম্ভিত হয়েছি যে, তারা মহাপরাক্রমশালী আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে সূর্যের উপাসনা করে।" হুদহুদের দেওয়া তথ্য যাচাই করার জন্য সুলাইমান পাখিটির মাধ্যমে রানীর কাছে একটি চিঠি পাঠালেন। তিনি পাখিটিকে আত্মগোপন করে থাকতে এবং সবকিছু লক্ষ্য করতে নির্দেশ দিলেন।

But in spite of all this wealth, Satan has entered her heart and the hearts of her people. She rules their minds completely. I was shocked to learn that they worship the sun instead of Allah the Almighty." To check the hoopoe's information, Solomon sent a letter to the queen with the bird. He instructed the bird to remain hidden and to watch everything.

হুদহুদ পাখিটি চিঠিখানা রানির সামনে ফেলে দিয়ে উড়ে গিয়ে লুকিয়ে পড়ল। সে উত্তেজিত হয়ে চিঠিটি খুলে পড়তে লাগল:

The hoopoe dropped the letter in front of the queen and flew away to hide. She excitedly opened and read it:

"নিশ্চয়ই এটি সুলাইমানের কাছ থেকে এসেছে, আর নিশ্চয়ই এর বিষয়বস্তু হলো: 'পরম করুণাময়, অতি দয়ালু আল্লাহর নামে। আমার বিরুদ্ধে তোমরা অবাধ্যতা করো না, বরং আনুগত্যশীল হয়ে আমার কাছে এসো।' (সূরা আন-নামল, ২৭:৩০-৩১ আয়াত)।"

"Verily! It is from Solomon, and verily! It reads: 'In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, and Most Merciful; be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit with full submission).'" ( Ch 27:30-31 Quran).

রানী অত্যন্ত বিচলিত হয়ে পড়লেন এবং দ্রুত তাঁর পরামর্শদাতাদের ডেকে পাঠালেন। তাঁরা এটিকে একটি চ্যালেঞ্জের মতো প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখালেন, কারণ তাঁদের মনে হলো কেউ তাঁদের চ্যালেঞ্জ করছে, যুদ্ধ ও পরাজয়ের ইঙ্গিত দিচ্ছে, এবং তার শর্তাবলি মেনে নিতে বলছে।

The queen was very disturbed and hurriedly summoned her advisors. They reacted as to a challenge, for they felt that there was someone challenging them, hinting at war and defeat, and asking them to submit to his conditions.

They told her that they could only offer advice, but it was her right to command action. She sensed that they wanted to meet Solomon's invasion threat with a battle. However, she told them:

"শান্তি ও বন্ধুত্ব অধিক উত্তম ও অধিক প্রজ্ঞাপূর্ণ; যুদ্ধ কেবল অপমান বয়ে আনে, মানুষকে দাসে পরিণত করে এবং উত্তম সবকিছু ধ্বংস করে। আমি সুলাইমানের কাছে উপহার পাঠানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছি, আমাদের সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান সম্পদ থেকে বেছে নিয়ে। যে দরবারীরা উপহার পৌঁছে দেবে, তাদেরও সুলাইমান এবং তাঁর সামরিক শক্তি সম্পর্কে জানার সুযোগ হবে।"

"Peace and friendship are better and wiser; war only brings humiliation, enslaves people and destroys the good things. I have decided to send gifts to Solomon, selected from our most precious treasure. The courtiers who will deliver the gifts will also have an opportunity to learn about Solomon and his military mighty."

সুলাইমানের গোয়েন্দা দল তাঁকে খবর দিল যে বিলকিসের দূতেরা উপহার নিয়ে এসেছে। তিনি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বুঝতে পারলেন যে রানি তাঁর লোকজনকে অবস্থা যাচাই করার জন্য পাঠিয়েছেন। তাই তিনি সেনাবাহিনীকে প্রস্তুত হওয়ার আদেশ দিলেন। সুসজ্জিত সেনাবাহিনীর মাঝখান দিয়ে প্রবেশ করে বিলকিসের দূতেরা উপলব্ধি করল যে সুলাইমানের রাজ্যের তুলনায় তাদের ধনসম্পদ কিছুই নয়। সুলাইমানের প্রাসাদের মেঝে ছিল চন্দন কাঠের তৈরি এবং তাতে স্বর্ণ খচিত ছিল।

Solomon's reconnaissance team brought him the news of the arrival of Bilkis' messengers with a gift. He immediately realized that the queen had sent her men on a probing mission thus, he gave orders to rally the army. The envoys of Bilqis, entering amidst the well-equipped army, realized that their wealth was nothing in comparison to that of the kingdom of Solomon's palace floors, which were made of sandalwood and inlaid with gold.

তারা দেখল সুলাইমান তাঁর সেনাবাহিনী পরিদর্শন করছেন, এবং সৈন্যদের সংখ্যা ও বৈচিত্র্য দেখে তারা বিস্মিত হলো; সেই বাহিনীতে ছিল সিংহ, বাঘ ও পাখি। দূতেরা বিস্ময়ে দাঁড়িয়ে রইল, উপলব্ধি করল যে তারা এক প্রতিরোধ করা অসম্ভব বাহিনীর সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।

They noticed Solomon surveying his army, and they were surprised at the number and variety of soldiers, which included lions, tigers, and birds. The messengers stood in amazement, realizing that they were in front of an irresistible army.

দূতেরা তাদের চারপাশের জাঁকজমক দেখে বিস্মিত হলো। তারা আগ্রহের সঙ্গে তাদের রানীর মূল্যবান উপহারগুলো পেশ করল এবং সুলাইমানকে জানাল যে রানী চান তিনি যেন এগুলো বন্ধুত্বের নিদর্শন হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখে তারা হতবাক হলো: তিনি উপহারের পাত্রগুলোর ঢাকনা খুলে দেখার কথাও জিজ্ঞেস করলেন না! তিনি তাদের বললেন: "আল্লাহ আমাকে প্রচুর ধন-সম্পদ, বিশাল রাজত্ব এবং নবুয়ত দান করেছেন।

The envoys marveled at the splendor surrounding them. They eagerly presented their queen's precious gifts and told Solomon that the queen wished that he would accept them as an act of friendship. They were shocked by his reaction: he did not even ask to open the covers of the containers! He told them: "Allah hagiven me plenty of wealth, a large kingdom, and prophethood.

আমি তাই ঘুষের ঊর্ধ্বে। আমার একমাত্র উদ্দেশ্য হলো তাওহীদ, অর্থাৎ আল্লাহর একত্বে বিশ্বাস প্রচার করা।" তিনি তাদের আরও নির্দেশ দিলেন, উপহারগুলো রানীর কাছে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে এবং তাঁকে বলতে যে, তিনি যদি তাঁর এই ধরনের ইবাদত বন্ধ না করেন, তবে তিনি তাঁর রাজ্য উৎখাত করবেন এবং তার জনগণকে দেশ থেকে বের করে দেবেন।

I am, therefore, beyond bribery. My only objective is to spread the belief in Tawheed, the Oneness of Allah." He also directed them to take back the gifts to the queen and to tell her that if she did not stop her kind of worship he would uproot her kingdom and drive its people out of the land.

রানির দূতেরা উপহার নিয়ে ফিরে এলো এবং বার্তাটি পৌঁছে দিলো। তারা তাঁকে সেই আশ্চর্য জিনিসগুলোর কথাও জানালো যা তারা দেখে এসেছিল। অসন্তুষ্ট না হয়ে তিনি সোলায়মানের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন।

The queen's envoys returned with the gifts and delivered the message. They also told her of the wonderful things they had seen. Instead of taking offense, she decided to visit Solomon.

তিনি তাঁর রাজকর্মচারী ও পরিচারকদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে সাবা থেকে যাত্রা করলেন, আর আগেই একজন বার্তাবাহককে পাঠালেন সুলাইমানকে জানাতে যে তিনি তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করার জন্য আসছেন।

Accompanied by her royal officials and servants, she left Sheba, sending a messenger ahead to inform Solomon that she was on her way to meet him.

সুলাইমান তাঁর অধীনস্থ জিনদের জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, তাদের মধ্যে কেউ কি তার আসার আগেই রানীর সিংহাসনটি তাঁর প্রাসাদে নিয়ে আসতে পারবে? তাদের একজন বলল, "এই বৈঠক শেষ হওয়ার আগেই আমি এটি আপনার কাছে নিয়ে আসব।" সুলাইমান এই প্রস্তাবে কোনো প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখালেন না; মনে হচ্ছিল তিনি আরও দ্রুত কোনো উপায়ের অপেক্ষায় আছেন। জিনরা তাঁকে খুশি করার জন্য একে অপরের সাথে প্রতিযোগিতা করল। তাদের মধ্যে ইফরিত নামের একজন বলল, "আমি চোখের পলকে তা আপনার জন্য এনে দেব!" কিতাবের জ্ঞানসম্পন্ন এই ব্যক্তি তার কথা শেষ করতেই সিংহাসনটি সুলাইমানের সামনে উপস্থিত হলো। বস্তুত, চোখের পলকেই কাজটি সম্পন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

Solomon asked the jinns in his employ whether anyone among them could bring her throne to he palace before she arrived. One of them said; "I will bring it to you before this sitting is over." Solomon did not react to this offer; it appeared that he was waiting for a faster means. The jinns competed with each other to please him. One of them named Ifrit said: "I will fetch it for you in the twinkling of an eye!" No sooner had this one - who had the knowledge of the Book - finished his phrase than the throne stood before Solomon. The mission had, indeed, been completed in the blinking of an eye.

সুলাইমানের (আলাইহিস সালাম) আসন ছিল ফিলিস্তিনে, আর বিলকিসের সিংহাসন ছিল ইয়েমেনে, দুই হাজার মাইল দূরে। এটি ছিল এক বিরাট মুজিজা, যা সুলাইমানের সাথে উপবিষ্ট একজন সম্পাদন করেছিলেন।

Solomon's seat was in Palestine, and the throne of Bilqis had been in Yemen, two thousand miles away. This was a great miracle performed by one of those sitting with Solomon.

মহান আল্লাহ কুরআনে আমাদের কাছে এই ঘটনাটি বর্ণনা করেছেন:

Almighty Allah told us this story in the Quran:

তিনি পাখিদের পর্যবেক্ষণ করলেন এবং বললেন: "আমার কী হলো, আমি হুদহুদকে দেখছি না? নাকি সে অনুপস্থিতদের মধ্যে আছে? আমি অবশ্যই তাকে কঠিন শাস্তি দেব, অথবা জবাই করে ফেলব, যদি সে আমার কাছে স্পষ্ট কোনো যুক্তি উপস্থাপন না করে।" কিন্তু হুদহুদ দীর্ঘ সময় অপেক্ষা করল না; সে এসে বলল: "আমি এমন একটি বিষয়ের জ্ঞান অর্জন করেছি (যা আপনার জানা নেই)।"

" He inspected the birds, and said: "What is the matter that I see not a hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees? I will surely punish him with a severe torment, or slaughter him, unless he brings me a clear reason." But the hoopoe stayed not long, he came up and said: "I have grasped (the knowledge of a thing)

যা আপনি উপলব্ধি করতে পারেননি, আর আমি সাবা থেকে আপনার কাছে নিশ্চিত সংবাদ নিয়ে এসেছি। আমি দেখলাম, এক নারী তাদের উপর শাসন করছে, এবং তাকে পৃথিবীর যেকোনো শাসকের অধিকারে থাকা সবকিছুই দেওয়া হয়েছে, আর তার রয়েছে এক বিশাল সিংহাসন। আমি দেখলাম সে ও তার জাতি আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে সূর্যের ইবাদত করছে। শয়তান তাদের কার্যাবলিকে তাদের কাছে সুশোভিত করে দিয়েছে এবং তাদেরকে আল্লাহর পথ থেকে বিরত রেখেছে, ফলে তারা হিদায়াত পায় না।" আল-লা (এই শব্দটির দুটি ব্যাখ্যা রয়েছে) [শয়তান তাদেরকে আল্লাহর পথ থেকে বিরত রেখেছে] যেন তারা আল্লাহকে সিজদা না করে, অথবা যেন তারা আল্লাহকে সিজদা করে।

which you have not grasped and I have come to you from Sheba with true news. I found a woman ruling over them, and she has been given all things that could be possessed by any ruler of the earth, and she has a great throne. I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah, and Satan has made their deeds fair seeming to them, and has barred them from Allah's Way, so they have no guidance." Al-La (this word has two interpretations) [As Satan has barred them from Allah's Way} so that they do not worship (prostrate before) Allah, or so that they may worship (prostrate before)

আল্লাহ, যিনি আসমানসমূহ ও যমীনের গোপন বিষয়কে আলোকিত করেন, এবং তোমরা যা গোপন করো আর যা প্রকাশ করো তা তিনি জানেন। আল্লাহ, লা ইলাহা ইল্লা হুওয়া (তিনি ছাড়া ইবাদতের যোগ্য আর কেউ নেই), মহান আরশের রব! (সুলাইমান) বললেন: "আমরা দেখব, তুমি সত্য বলছ, নাকি তুমি মিথ্যাবাদীদের একজন। আমার এই চিঠি নিয়ে যাও এবং তাদের কাছে পৌঁছে দাও, তারপর তাদের থেকে সরে থেকো এবং দেখো তারা কী উত্তর ফেরত পাঠায়।" সে (রানী) বলল: "হে সভাসদগণ! নিশ্চয়ই আমার কাছে একটি সম্মানিত চিঠি পৌঁছানো হয়েছে। নিশ্চয়ই এটি সুলাইমানের পক্ষ থেকে, আর নিশ্চয়ই তাতে লেখা আছে: 'পরম করুণাময়, অতি দয়ালু আল্লাহর নামে; তোমরা আমার বিরুদ্ধে অহংকার করো না, বরং আনুগত্যের সাথে (প্রকৃত মুমিন হিসেবে, পূর্ণ আত্মসমর্পণ করে আল্লাহর কাছে) আমার কাছে এসো।" সে বলল: "হে সভাসদগণ! আমার এই বিষয়ে তোমরা আমাকে পরামর্শ দাও। তোমরা উপস্থিত না থাকলে আমি কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত নিই না।" তারা বলল: "আমরা প্রচণ্ড শক্তিশালী এবং যুদ্ধে অত্যন্ত সক্ষম, তবে আদেশের ভার আপনার হাতে; কাজেই আপনি ভেবে দেখুন কী আদেশ করবেন।" সে বলল: "নিশ্চয়ই রাজারা যখন কোনো জনপদে প্রবেশ করে, তখন তারা সেটিকে বিধ্বস্ত করে এবং সেখানকার সম্মানিত লোকদের অপমানিত করে। আর তারা এমনই করে। কিন্তু নিশ্চয়ই আমি তার কাছে একটি উপহার পাঠাব, আর দেখব দূতেরা কী উত্তর নিয়ে ফিরে আসে।" অতঃপর (উপহারসহ দূতেরা) যখন সুলাইমানের কাছে এলো, তিনি বললেন: "তোমরা কি ধনসম্পদ দিয়ে আমাকে সাহায্য করতে চাও? আল্লাহ আমাকে যা দিয়েছেন তা তোমাদের যা দিয়েছেন তার চেয়ে উত্তম! বরং তোমরাই তোমাদের উপহার নিয়ে আনন্দ করছ!" (তারপর সুলাইমান উপহার নিয়ে আসা দূতদের প্রধানকে বললেন): "তাদের কাছে ফিরে যাও। আমরা অবশ্যই এমন সেনাবাহিনী নিয়ে তাদের কাছে আসব যার মোকাবিলা তারা করতে পারবে না, এবং আমরা তাদেরকে সেখান থেকে লাঞ্ছিত অবস্থায় বের করে দেব, আর তারা হবে অপমানিত।" তিনি বললেন: "হে সভাসদগণ! তারা আমার কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করে আসার আগে তোমাদের মধ্যে কে তার সিংহাসনটি আমার কাছে নিয়ে আসতে পারবে?" জিনদের মধ্য থেকে এক শক্তিশালী ইফরিত বলল: "আপনি আপনার স্থান (সভা) থেকে ওঠার আগেই আমি তা আপনার কাছে নিয়ে আসব। নিশ্চয়ই আমি এ কাজের জন্য যথেষ্ট শক্তিশালী ও বিশ্বস্ত।" যার কাছে কিতাবের জ্ঞান ছিল সে বলল, "আপনার চোখের পলক পড়ার আগেই আমি তা আপনার কাছে এনে দেব!" অতঃপর সুলাইমান যখন তা নিজের সামনে রাখা দেখলেন, তিনি বললেন, "এটি আমার রবের অনুগ্রহ, আমাকে পরীক্ষা করার জন্য যে, আমি কৃতজ্ঞ থাকি না অকৃতজ্ঞ হই! আর যে কৃতজ্ঞ হয়, তার কৃতজ্ঞতা তো কেবল তার নিজেরই কল্যাণের জন্য, আর যে অকৃতজ্ঞ হয়, নিশ্চয়ই আমার রব অভাবমুক্ত, মহানুভব।" তিনি বললেন, "তার সিংহাসনটিকে তার জন্য বদলে দাও, দেখা যাক সে চিনতে পারে কিনা, নাকি সে তাদের মধ্যে শামিল, যারা পথ পায় না।" অতঃপর সে যখন এল, তাকে বলা হলো, "তোমার সিংহাসন কি এ রকমই?" সে বলল, "মনে হচ্ছে যেন এটি সেটাই।" সুলাইমান বললেন, "আমরা তার আগেই জ্ঞানপ্রাপ্ত হয়েছিলাম এবং আমরা আত্মসমর্পণকারী ছিলাম।" আল্লাহ ছাড়া সে যার ইবাদত করত, সেটিই তাকে বাধা দিয়েছিল, কারণ সে ছিল কাফির সম্প্রদায়ভুক্ত।

সুলাইমান (আ.)-এর সরকারি বড় বড় নির্মাণকাজের অধিকাংশই জিনেরা সম্পাদন করত। এটি ছিল তাদের সেই পাপের শাস্তি, যে পাপে তারা মানুষকে বিশ্বাস করাত যে তারা সর্বশক্তিমান, তারা অদৃশ্যের খবর জানে এবং ভবিষ্যৎ আগে থেকে দেখতে পায়। একজন নবী হিসেবে মানুষের মধ্যে থেকে এমন মিথ্যা বিশ্বাস দূর করা ছিল সুলাইমান (আ.)-এর কর্তব্য।

Solomon's public work was largely carried out by the jinns. This was a punishment for their sins of making people believe that they were all-powerful, knew the unseen, and could foresee the future. As a prophet, it was Solomon's duty to remove such false beliefs from his followers.

সুলাইমান (আ.) গৌরবের মধ্যে জীবন কাটিয়েছিলেন, এবং সমস্ত সৃষ্টি তাঁর অধীন ছিল। অতঃপর মহান আল্লাহ তাঁর মৃত্যুর আদেশ দিলেন। তাঁর জীবন ও মৃত্যু বিস্ময় ও মুজিজায় পরিপূর্ণ ছিল; এভাবে তাঁর মৃত্যু তাঁর জীবন ও গৌরবের সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠেছিল। তাঁর মৃত্যু, তাঁর জীবনের মতোই, অনন্য ছিল। মানুষকে শিখতে হয়েছিল যে ভবিষ্যৎ জিন জাতিও জানে না, নবীগণও জানেন না, কেবল আল্লাহই জানেন। এই দিকে সুলাইমান (আ.)-এর প্রচেষ্টা তাঁর জীবনের সঙ্গে শেষ হয়ে যায়নি, কারণ তাঁর মৃত্যুও একটি দৃষ্টান্ত হয়ে উঠেছিল। তিনি তাঁর লাঠি ধরে বসেছিলেন, একটি খনিতে কাজ করা জিনদের তত্ত্বাবধান করছিলেন। তিনি এই অবস্থাতেই বসে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। দীর্ঘ সময় কেউ তাঁর মৃত্যুর কথা জানত না, কারণ তাঁকে সোজা হয়ে বসে থাকতে দেখা যেত। জিনরা তাদের বালি-শ্রমের কাজ চালিয়ে যেতে লাগল, মনে করে যে সুলাইমান তাদের দেখাশোনা করছেন।

Solomon lived amidst glory, and all creatures were subjected to him. Then Allah the Exalted ordained for him to die. His life and death were full of wonders and miracles; thus, his death harmonized with his life and glory. His death, like his life, was unique. The people had to learn that the future is known neither by the jinns, nor by the prophets, but by Allah alone. Solomon's effort in this direction did not end with his life, for even his death became an example. He was sitting holding his staff, overseeing the jinns at work in a mine. He died sitting in this position. For a long time no one was aware of his death, for he was seen sitting erect. The jinns continued with their sand toil, thinking that Solomon was watching over them.

অনেক দিন পরে, একটি ক্ষুধার্ত পিঁপড়া সুলাইমানের লাঠি কুটুরকুটুর করে কাটতে শুরু করল। সে এটি চালিয়ে যেতে থাকল, লাঠির নিচের অংশ খেয়ে ফেলতে থাকল, যতক্ষণ না সেটি সুলাইমানের হাত থেকে খসে পড়ল, আর তাঁর বিশাল দেহ মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়ল।

Many days later, a hungry ant began nibbling Solomon's staff. It continued to do so, eating the lower part of the staff, until it fell out of Solomon's hand, and his great body fell to the ground.

মানুষজন তাড়াহুড়ো করে তাঁর কাছে ছুটে গেল, তারা বুঝতে পারল যে তিনি অনেক আগেই মারা গেছেন এবং জিনেরা অদৃশ্যের খবর রাখত না, কারণ জিনেরা যদি অদৃশ্যের খবর জানত, তবে তারা কাজ চালিয়ে যেত না, এই ভেবে যে সুলাইমান জীবিত আছেন।

People hurried to him, realizing that he had died a long time ago and that the jinns did not perceive the unseen, for had the jinns known the unseen, they would not have kept working, thinking that Solomon was alive.

এবং আমি তাঁর জন্য গলিত তামার একটি ঝর্ণা প্রবাহিত করেছিলাম, এবং জিনদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ তাঁর সামনে তাঁর রবের অনুমতিক্রমে কাজ করত; আর তাদের মধ্যে যে কেউ আমার আদেশ থেকে বিচ্যুত হতো, আমি তাকে জ্বলন্ত আগুনের শাস্তি আস্বাদন করাতাম।

"And We caused a fount of molten brass to flow for him, and there were jinns that worked in front of him by the Leave of his Lord, and whosoever of them turned aside from Our Command, We shall cause him to taste of the torment of the blazing Fire.

তারা তাঁর জন্য যা তিনি চাইতেন তা তৈরি করত — উঁচু প্রাসাদ, প্রতিকৃতি, জলাধারের মতো বড় বড় পাত্র, এবং স্থির ডেগ। "হে দাউদের পরিবার, কৃতজ্ঞতার সাথে কাজ করো!" কিন্তু আমার বান্দাদের মধ্যে অল্প সংখ্যকই কৃতজ্ঞ।

They worked for him what he desired, (making) high rooms, images, basins as large as reservoirs, and (making) cauldrons fixed (in their places). "Work you, O family of David, with thanks!" But few of My slaves are grateful.

তারপর যখন আমি তার (সুলাইমানের) উপর মৃত্যু নির্ধারণ করলাম, তখন মাটির একটি সামান্য কীট ছাড়া আর কিছুই তাদেরকে (জিনদেরকে) তার মৃত্যুর খবর জানায়নি, যা তার লাঠি খেতে থাকল। অতঃপর যখন তিনি পড়ে গেলেন, তখন জিনেরা স্পষ্টভাবে বুঝতে পারল যে, তারা যদি অদৃশ্যের খবর জানত, তাহলে তারা এই লাঞ্ছনাকর শাস্তিতে আবদ্ধ থাকত না। (সূরা সাবা, ৩৪:১২-১৪, কুরআন)

Then when we decreed death for him (Solomon), nothing informed them (jinns) of his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept slowly gnawing away at his stick, so when he fell down, the jinns saw clearly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment. (Ch 34:12-14 Quran).
