Das Wirtschaftssystem im Islam ist ein integraler Bestandteil der islamischen Ideologie. Die Regeln für Wirtschaft und Finanzen sind mit anderen Regeln verflochten, die Ehe, Familienbeziehungen, Politik, Moral, rituelle Handlungen, Glaubenslehren und anderes betreffen. Die Zakah, einer der Bestandteile der islamischen Wirtschaft, wird im Qur'an in mehr als vierzehn Versen zusammen mit dem Gebetsritual offenbart, in der Form „Verrichtet das Gebet und entrichtet die Zakah". In Surah Al-Mujadilah (Kapitel 48, Vers 4) bestand eine der Möglichkeiten, eine Sünde im Zusammenhang mit der Ehe wiedergutzumachen, darin, sechzig Arme zu speisen.55 Das bedeutet im Kern, dass der Qur'an und die Sunnah des Propheten Muhammad ﷺ verstreute Texte enthalten, die Regeln zu Finanzen und Wirtschaft ebenso wie zu anderen Themen umfassen. Der Prophet Muhammad ﷺ war kein Ökonom mit einem Abschluss in Volkswirtschaftslehre. Er war ein Prophet und Gesandter Gottes, der Offenbarungen zu verschiedenen Fragen empfing, darunter auch zur Wirtschaft. Ein Ableitungsprozess ist daher notwendig, um die wirtschaftliche Struktur zu gewinnen und zu systematisieren.

The economic system in Islam is an integral part of the Islamic ideology. The rules related to the economy and finances are intertwined with other rules pertaining to marriage, family relations, politics, morals, rituals, beliefs, and others. Zakah, one of the components of the Islamic economy, is revealed in the Quran together with the ritual of prayer in more than fourteen verses in the form “establish the prayer and pay the Zakah.” In Surah Al-Mujadilah (chapter 48, verse 4), one of the options to recover from a marriage-related sin was to feed sixty poor people.55 What this really means is that the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad contain scattered texts which include rules related to finances and economy as well as to other topics. Prophet Mohammad was not an economist with a degree in economics. He was a prophet and a messenger of God who received revelation on various issues including economics. A derivation process, therefore, becomes necessary to obtain and systematize the economic structure.

Das deutet weiterhin darauf hin, dass die Wirtschaftsordnung Teil eines größeren Gefüges des Islam ist und weder von ihren Geschwistersystemen (anderen Systemen) noch von ihrer Wurzel (dem Fundament des Islam) getrennt werden sollte. Das wirtschaftliche System des Islam kann das erwartete Ergebnis von Gerechtigkeit und Fairness nur dann hervorbringen und wird es auch nur dann tun, wenn es zusammen mit dem übrigen Islam betrachtet wird. Dies wird deutlich werden, wenn wir im nächsten Abschnitt die Entwicklung des Wirtschafts- und Finanzsystems im Islam besprechen.

This further implies that the economic structure is part of a bigger schema of Islam and should not be separated either from its siblings (other systems) or root (the foundation of Islam). The economic system of Islam can and will produce the expected outcome of justice and fairness only when taken together with the rest of Islam. This will be evident when we discuss the development of the economic and financial system in Islam in the next section.
