আল-হাসান আল-বসরি, আল্লাহ তাঁর প্রতি রহম করুন, বলেছেন: "আল্লাহ ﷻ পাপীদেরকে অপমানিত করেন, কারণ তারা তাঁর অবাধ্যতা করেছে। যদি তিনি ﷻ তাদের সম্মান দিতেন, তবে তিনি ﷻ তাদেরকে পাপ করা থেকে রক্ষা করতেন; আর আল্লাহ ﷻ যাদেরকে অপমানিত করেন, তাদের আর কেউ সম্মান দিতে পারে না; কারণ তিনি ﷻ বলেছেন: (আল্লাহ যাকে অপমানিত করেন, কেউ তাকে সম্মানিত করতে পারে না)।" ৩ আর মানুষ পাপ করতেই থাকে, এমনকি সে পাপকে তুচ্ছ মনে করতে শুরু করে। আর পাপ যতই মানুষের কাছে তুচ্ছ হয়ে যায়, আল্লাহর দৃষ্টিতে ততই তা গুরুতর ও বড় হয়ে ওঠে। ইবনু মাসউদ ﷻ বলেছেন: "একজন মুমিন তার পাপগুলোকে এমনভাবে দেখে, যেন সেগুলো একটি পাহাড়ের গোড়ায় দাঁড়িয়ে আছে, আর সে ভয় করে যে সেটি তার উপর ভেঙে পড়তে পারে; অথচ পাপী তার পাপগুলোকে এমন মনে করে, যেন কিছু মাছি তার নাকের উপর বসেছে, যেগুলোকে সে হাত দিয়ে তাড়িয়ে দেয়, ফলে সেগুলো উড়ে চলে যায়।"4

Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "Allah ~ disgraces them (sinners) as they disobeyed Him. If He ~ had honoured them, He ~ would have safeguarded them from committing sins; and those Allah ~ humiliates will have no one to honour them; for He ~ said: (Whomsoever Allah disgraces, none can honour him) 3 A person also continues to commit a sin until he attaches little importance to it, and the more a sin becomes insignificant to a person, the more it becomes serious and great in the Sight of Allah. Ibn Mas'ud ~ said: "A believer sees his sins as if they were the base of a mountain, which he fears might fall on him; whereas the sinner considers his sins like some flies landing on his nose, which he repels so they fly away."4
