گناہ کی دو طرح سے تعریف کی جا سکتی ہے: اللہ کے کسی حکم سے منہ موڑنا، یا کسی حرام فعل کا ارتکاب کرنا۔ اللہ ~ نے جن کے باپ اور انسانوں کے باپ کو انہی دو گناہوں کے ارتکاب پر آزمائش میں ڈالا، اور یہ گناہ چار اقسام میں تقسیم ہوتے ہیں: (1) بادشاہانہ گناہ: جب کوئی شخص اللہ کی کچھ الوہی صفات اپنا لیتا ہے، جیسے عظمت، تکبر، قدرتِ مطلقہ، غلبہ، بلندی، برتری وغیرہ، تو وہ شرک میں جا پڑتا ہے، کیونکہ اس نے اللہ کا شریک بنایا۔ یہ تمام گناہوں میں سب سے سنگین قسم ہے، کیونکہ اس میں انسان اللہ کی صفات اور اس کی بادشاہی میں اس سے مقابلہ کرنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے، اور یہ ناقابلِ معافی ہے۔ اللہ ~ نے فرمایا: {بے شک اللہ اس بات کو نہیں بخشتا کہ اس کے ساتھ شریک ٹھہرایا جائے، اور اس کے علاوہ جسے چاہے بخش دیتا ہے، اور جو کوئی اللہ کے ساتھ شریک ٹھہرائے تو اس نے بہت بڑا گناہ گھڑا۔} (2) شیطانی گناہ: جب کوئی شخص اپنی صفات میں شیطان کی نقل کرتا ہے، جیسے حسد، ظلم، دھوکہ، خیانت، برائی کا حکم دینا، نیکی سے روکنا، دین میں بدعت ایجاد کرنا، اور لوگوں کو گمراہی کی طرف بلانا۔ (3) درندہ صفت گناہ: جب کوئی شخص ظالم بن جاتا ہے اور دوسرے کمزور لوگوں کے ساتھ جبر سے پیش آتا ہے، انہیں نقصان اور تکلیف پہنچاتا ہے۔ (4) حیوانی گناہ: جب کوئی شخص شہوت کی خواہش کے قبضے میں آ جاتا ہے، جو زنا اور بدکاری تک لے جاتی ہے۔ یہ قسم لوگوں میں سب سے زیادہ عام ہے، کیونکہ وہ بادشاہانہ یا درندہ صفت صفات اپنانے سے قاصر ہوتے ہیں۔ تاہم، اسی راستے سے وہ ان دوسری صفات، یعنی درندگی سے شیطانی صفات تک، کے حامل ہونے کی پہچان حاصل کرنا چاہتے ہیں، اور پھر اللہ ~ سے اس کی الوہیت اور وحدانیت میں مقابلہ کرنے کی کوشش تک جا پہنچتے ہیں۔

A sin can be defined in two ways: turning away from a Commandment of Allah, or committing a prohibited deed. Allah ~ had put on trial the father of the jinn and that of mankind for committing these two sins, which are divided into four categories: (1) Kingly sins: when a person assumes some godly attributes, such as greatness, pride, omnipotence, subjugation, highness, exaltedness, etc. he falls into polytheism, by associating himself with Allah ~- This type is the most serious sin of all, because one tries to compete with Allah in His Attributes and His Sovereignty, which is unforgivable. Allah ~ said: (Verily, Allah does not forgive that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives (anything else) except that, to whom He wills, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin) 1 (2) Devilish sins: when a person imitates the devil with his attributes, such as envy, oppression, cheating, treason, enjoining misdeeds, forbidding righteous deeds, innovating in religion, inviting people to misguidance. (3) Predatory sins: when a person becomes a tyrant and acts oppressively towards other weak people, inflicting them with harm and suffering. ( 4) Animalistic sins: when a person becomes possessed by his passion for lust, which leads to adultery and immorality. This type of sin is the most common among people as they are unable to assume those kingly or predatory attributes. However, it is through this type that they aim to acquire recognition for possessing those other attributes, from the predatory to the devilish, then even trying to compete with Allah ~ in His Divinity and Oneness.
