मुहम्मदी दावत (आह्वान) को दो अलग-अलग चरणों में बाँटा जा सकता है, जिनकी सीमाएँ स्पष्ट रूप से निर्धारित थीं:

The Muhammadan Call could be divided into two phases distinctively demarcated:

1. मक्की दौर: लगभग तेरह वर्ष।

1. The Makkan phase: nearly thirteen years.

2. मदनी चरण: पूरे दस वर्ष।

2. The Madinese phase: fully ten years.

प्रत्येक दो चरणों में ऐसी विशिष्ट विशेषताएँ थीं जो उन परिस्थितियों की सटीक जाँच से आसानी से पहचानी जा सकती थीं, जिन्होंने उनमें से हर एक को परिभाषित किया था।

Each of the two phases included distinctive features easily discernible through accurate scrutiny into the circumstances that characterized each of them.

मक्की काल को तीन चरणों में बाँटा जा सकता है:

The Makkan phase can be divided into three stages:

1. गुप्त आह्वान का चरण: तीन वर्ष।

1. The stage of the secret Call: three years.

2. मक्का में दावत के प्रकट होने का चरण: नुबूव्वत के चौथे वर्ष के आरंभ से लेकर दसवें वर्ष के लगभग अंत तक।

2. The stage of the proclamation of the Call in Makkah: from the beginning of the fourth year of Prophethood to almost the end of the tenth year.

3. इस्लाम की ओर आह्वान और मक्का से बाहर उसके प्रचार का चरण: यह नबुव्वत के दसवें वर्ष के अंत से लेकर मुहम्मद ﷺ के मदीना की ओर हिजरत करने तक चला।

3. The stage of the call to Islam and propagating it beyond Makkah: it lasted from the end of tenth year of the Prophethood until Muhammad’s (Peace be upon him) emigration to Madinah.
