عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: «لا تقوم الساعةُ حتى يكثُرَ المالُ ويفيضَ، حتى يُهِمَّ ربَّ المال مَن يقبلُ صدقتَه، وحتى تعودَ أرضُ العرب مروجًا وأنهارًا»[317]. وإنّ كان لهذه النبوءة عن الثراء غير المسبوق مظاهرُ سابقة، فإنّ أنماط الحياة الراهنة في ما يُسمّى «العالم الأول» تُبيّن أنهم يعيشون في رفاهية تفوق ما عاشه 99.9% من تاريخ البشرية المسجّل.

Abū Hurayrah  reports that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “The Hour will not commence before wealth becomes abundant and overflowing, to the point that a man brings out the charity due on his wealth and cannot find anyone to accept it from him, and to the point that Arabia’s lands will revert back to being meadows and rivers.”317 While acknowledging earlier manifestations of this prophecy about unprecedented affluence, current lifestyles in today’s “first world” illustrate that they live in greater luxury than 99.9% of recorded human history.

حتى الذين يعانون من ضيق مادي يتمتعون بكراسي استرخاء في منازلهم أكثر راحةً من عرش أي ملك قديم، وبأجهزة تكييف للمناخ مثبتة على جدرانهم، وبوسائل نقل حوّلت رحلةً مرهقةً تستغرق شهراً كاملاً إلى بضع ساعات ممتعة. ولعل الأمر الأكثر إثارةً للاهتمام هو أن النبي ﷺ ذكر التحول الزراعي الذي شهدته الجزيرة العربية في السياق نفسه مع وفرة الثروة. فقبل أربعة عشر قرناً، لم يكن يُتصوَّر أساليب الري الواسعة التي ابتُكرت حديثاً بفضل التقنية الحديثة. نحن أولى الأجيال التي حظيت بشرف مشاهدة هذه الظاهرة الجيولوجية.

Even those financially struggling enjoy recliners at home that are cozier than any ancient king’s royal throne, and climate controls on their walls, and access to modes of transport that have turned an excruciating month-long journey into a few entertaining hours. Perhaps even more intriguing is the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم mentioning the agricultural transformation of Arabia in the same context as the surplus of wealth. Fourteen centuries ago, the extensive irrigation methods recently invented through modern technology were inconceivable. We are the very first generations privileged to witness this geological phenomenon.

علاوة على ذلك، فإن معجزة ذات صلة هنا هي إدراك النبي ﷺ أن الجزيرة العربية كانت في وقت ما تضم مروجًا وأنهارًا.

تَحْتَوِي الطِّينُ المتحجِّرُ في «الرُّبْعِ الخالي» بالجزيرةِ العربيةِ على أسنانِ فرسِ النهرِ وعظامِ الجاموسِ وأصدافِ المحارِ التي تحجَّرتْ منذُ آلافِ السنين.319

The petrified mud of Arabia’s “Empty Quarter” is replete with hippopotamus teeth, buffalo bones, and clam shells fossilized thousands of years ago.319
