अबुल-क़ासिम अल-बग़वी ने रिवायत किया कि इब्न अबी मुलैकह ने कहा: अबू बक्र (रज़ि॰) से एक आयत के बारे में पूछा गया, तो उन्होंने फ़रमाया, "कौन-सी ज़मीन मुझे थामेगी और कौन-सा आसमान मुझ पर साया करेगा, अगर मैं अल्लाह की किताब की किसी आयत के बारे में वह कहूँ जो अल्लाह ने नहीं चाहा?" अबू उबैदा ने रिवायत किया कि इब्राहीम अत-तैमी ने कहा: अबू बक्र (रज़ि॰) से उसके इस क़ौल के बारे में पूछा गया, "और मेवे और चारा" (क़ुरआन 80: 31), तो उन्होंने फ़रमाया, "कौन-सा आसमान मुझ पर साया करेगा और कौन-सी ज़मीन मुझे सहारा देगी, अगर मैं अल्लाह की किताब के बारे में वह कहूँ जो मैं नहीं जानता?" अल-बैहक़ी और दूसरों ने रिवायत किया कि अबू बक्र (रज़ि॰) से "अल-कलाला" के बारे में पूछा गया, तो उन्होंने फ़रमाया, "मैं इसके बारे में अपनी राय कहूँगा; अगर वह सही है तो वह अल्लाह की तरफ़ से है, और अगर ग़लत है तो वह मेरी तरफ़ से और शैतान की तरफ़ से है।"

Abu’l-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated that Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: Abu bakr was asked about an ayah and he said, ‘What land would hold me or what sky would shade me if I were to say about an ayah of the Book of Allah that which Allah did not wish?’ Abu cUbaydah narrated that Ibrahim at-Taymi said: Abu Bakr was asked about His words, exalted is He, And fruits and herbage,’ (Qur’an 80: 31) and he said, ‘Which sky would shade me and what land would sustain me if I were to say about the Book of Allah that which I do not know?’ Al-Bayhaqi and others narrated that Abu Bakr was asked about al-Kalalah and he said, ‘I will say my view on it and if it is correct it is from Allah, and if it is wrong it is from me and from shaytan.
