Os juristas muçulmanos concordaram que a pureza legal (ṭahāra) na sharīʿa é de dois tipos: pureza de ḥadath (impureza ritual) e pureza de khabath (impureza física).23 24 Também concordaram que a pureza de ḥadath é de três tipos: a ablução (wuḍūʾ), o banho (ghusl) e o seu substituto, a ablução com terra limpa (tayammum).25 Isto se deve à sua inclusão no versículo da ablução,25 que tratou destas questões.
