Rosenthal führt an anderer Stelle aus, dass auch das Aufkommen des Qur'an die historische Forschung angeregt hat, und zwar in einer Weise, die den Verlauf der Geschichtsschreibung nachhaltig verändert hat.

Rosenthal adds elsewhere that the advent of the Qur’an also stimulated historical research in a way that changed the course of history when it came to historiography.

Der Grund, so argumentiert er, liegt darin, dass die Handlungen einzelner Personen (wie Propheten), die Ereignisse der Vergangenheit und die Umstände aller Völker der Erde nun plötzlich von religiöser Bedeutung geworden waren. Hinzu kam der Reichtum an historischen Angaben im Qur'an, den Muhammad ﷺ überbracht hatte und der dazu anregte, weitere veranschaulichende historische Informationen zu suchen. The reason, he argues, is that suddenly the actions of individuals (like prophets), the events of the past, and the circumstances of all peoples of the earth had now become matters of religious importance, in addition to the abundance of historical data in the Qur’an which Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم brought that incentivized pursuing additional illustrative historical information.
