يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ {

A--- Allah, the Almighty says: {O you who believe! Observing As-Sawm (the Fasting)(12)

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ{ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ } Note: the Qur'an verse itself is the text in braces; the translated verse fragment above is the Qur'anic text the user supplied, which I render in Arabic as given. Is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you). (Al-Baqarah, 183)

قال الله تعالى: {فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ} (البقرة: ١٨٥)

Allah says: {So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month}. (Al-Baqarah, 185)

وَرَدَ فِي حَدِيثٍ أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: أَخْبِرْنِي بِالصِّيَامِ الَّذِي فَرَضَهُ اللهُ عَلَيَّ. فَقَالَ ﷺ: «شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ». قَالَ السَّائِلُ:

According to a Hadith, a Bedouin said to Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him): Tell me the Fast that Allah makes obligatory for me. He (Peace be upon him) said: "The month of Ramadan. The inquirer said:

هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُ؟ قَالَ: «لَا، إِلَّا أَنْ تَطَوَّعَ». رَوَاهُ البُخَارِيُّ

Am I obliged to fast anything else besides this? He (the Prophet (Peace be upon him)) said: No, except that which you observe out of your own free will". (Sahih Bukhari)
