আল্লাহ তাআলা বলেন, {ধ্বংস সেসব লোকের জন্য যারা মাপে কম দেয়, যারা মানুষের কাছ থেকে মেপে নেওয়ার সময় পূর্ণমাত্রায় নেয়, কিন্তু যখন তাদেরকে মেপে বা ওজন করে দিতে হয়, তখন কম দেয়। তারা কি ভেবে দেখে না যে, তারা এক মহাদিবসে পুনরুত্থিত হবে, যেদিন সমগ্র মানবজাতি বিশ্বজগতের প্রতিপালকের সামনে দাঁড়াবে?} (আল-মুতাফফিফীন: ১-৬)

Allah Most High says, {Woe to those that deal in fraud, those who, when they have to receive a measure from men, exact full measure, but when they have to give a measure or weight to men, give less than due. Do not they think that they will be raised upon a Mighty Day, a day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?} (AI-Mutaffifeen: 1-6)

আস-সুদ্দী বলেন, উপরোক্ত আয়াতটি অবতীর্ণ হওয়ার কারণ হলো, নবী ﷺ মদীনায় পৌঁছে আবু জুহাইনাহ নামের এক ব্যক্তিকে দেখতে পান, যার কাছে দুটি দাঁড়িপাল্লা ছিল—একটি দেওয়ার জন্য এবং অন্যটি নেওয়ার জন্য।

As-Saddiy said the reason of revelation of the above Ayah traces back to Prophet's arrival at Medina where he found a man called Abu Juhainah who had two scales, one for giving and the other for receiving.

নবী ﷺ বলেছেন, "পাঁচটি বিষয় পাঁচটির পরিণতি ডেকে আনে।" সাহাবিগণ জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, "হে আল্লাহর রাসূল, এর অর্থ কী?" তিনি বললেন, "যখনই কোনো জাতি অঙ্গীকার ভঙ্গ করে, আল্লাহ তাদের শত্রুকে তাদের উপর আক্রমণ করতে উদ্বুদ্ধ করেন। যখনই তারা আল্লাহর নাযিলকৃত বিধান ছাড়া অন্য কিছুর দ্বারা শাসন করে, তারা দারিদ্র্যে পীড়িত হয়। যখন অশ্লীলতা ছড়িয়ে পড়ে, তারা বহু মৃত্যুর শিকার হয়। যদি তারা ওজনে প্রতারণা করে, আল্লাহ তাদের চারণভূমি (বা তৃণভূমি) বন্ধ করে দেন এবং তারা অনাবৃষ্টির বছরের মুখোমুখি হয়। যদি তারা যাকাত আদায় না করে, আল্লাহ তাদের বৃষ্টি থেকে বঞ্চিত করেন।" মালিক ইবনে দীনার বলেন, একবার আমার এক প্রতিবেশী মারাত্মক রোগে আক্রান্ত হয়ে আমার কাছে এসে বলল, "দুটি আগুনের পাহাড়, দুটি আগুনের পাহাড়!" আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, "তুমি কী বলছ?" সে বলল, "হে আবু ইয়াহইয়া, আমার কাছে দুটি দাঁড়িপাল্লা ছিল, একটি দেওয়ার জন্য এবং অন্যটি নেওয়ার জন্য।" মালিক ইবনে দীনার বললেন, তাই আমি সেগুলোকে একটির সঙ্গে অন্যটি দিয়ে পিষে ফেলি। তখন লোকটি বলল, "হে আবু ইয়াহইয়া, তুমি এগুলো যত বেশি পিষবে, আমার কষ্ট তত বেশি হবে।"

The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Five entail five. They asked, what do you mean, Messenger of Allah? He said, II whenever a group of people break a covenant, Allah will entice their enemy to attack them. Whenever, they rule by other than Allah's revelation they will be plagued by poverty. If indecency prevails, they will be afflicted by many deaths. If they cheat when weighing Allah will withhold their pasture-lands (or pasturage) and they will face barren years. If they do not pay Zakat, Allah will deprive them of rain.” Malik Ibn Dinar said, once one of my neighbors came to me suffering from a deadly disease saying! “Two mountains of fire, two mountains of fire”. “What do you say”, I asked. He said, Abu Yahya, I had two scales, one for giving and the other for receiving. Malik Ibn Dinar, said, I, therefore, crush them with one another. Thereby the man said, the more you crush them, the more suffering I get, Abu Yahya.

এরপর লোকটি রোগে আক্রান্ত অবস্থায় মারা যায়।

Afterwards, the man died affected by illness.

ওজন বা পরিমাপে প্রতারণা করাকে চুরির একটি প্রকার, আমানতের খিয়ানত এবং অন্যের সম্পদ মিথ্যার মাধ্যমে ভক্ষণ করা হিসেবে গণ্য করা হয়। আল্লাহ এমন ব্যক্তিদের জন্য "ওয়াইল" এর শাস্তির প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছেন, যার অর্থ কঠিন যন্ত্রণা অথবা জাহান্নামের একটি উপত্যকা হতে পারে। এই উপত্যকা এতটাই উত্তপ্ত যে এটি পৃথিবীর সমস্ত পাহাড় গলিয়ে দিতে পারে।

Cheating when weighing or measuring out goods is considered as a type of theft, a breach of faith and consuming other's property through falsehood. Allah promises to punish such people with wail which may be interpreted as a severe torture or a valley in Hell-Fire. This valley is so hot that it can melt all the mountains of the world.

একজন প্রাথমিক যুগের মুসলিম বলেছেন, আমি সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছি যে যারা ওজন করে বা মাপে, তারা সবাই জাহান্নামে প্রবেশ করবে।

One of the early Muslims said, I testify that all those who weigh or measure will enter the Hell-fire.

এর কারণ, আল্লাহ যাকে রক্ষা করেন সে ছাড়া কেউ ন্যায়সঙ্গতভাবে পরিমাপ করতে পারে না। অন্য একজন বলেছেন, একবার আমি মৃত্যুযন্ত্রণায় ভুগছেন এমন একজন অসুস্থ ব্যক্তিকে দেখতে গেলাম। তখন আমি তাকে কালিমায়ে শাহাদাত পাঠ করাতে শুরু করলাম, কিন্তু সে কথা বলতে পারল না। যখন তার জ্ঞান ফিরে এলো, আমি তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, তুমি কেন কালিমায়ে শাহাদাত পুনরাবৃত্তি করলে না? সে উত্তর দিল, হে ভাই, দাঁড়িপাল্লার কাঁটা আমার জিহ্বার উপর ছিল, যা আমাকে কথা বলতে বাধা দিয়েছে।

This is because; none can measure justly save those whom Allah protects. Another one said, once I visited a sick man suffering from the death trials. Thereby, I began to instruct him to say the testification of faith, but he could not speak. When he became conscious, I asked him, why did not you repeat the testification of faith? He answered, O brother, the scale's blade was upon my tongue and prevented me to speak.

তখন আমি তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, তুমি কি কম ওজন দিয়েছিলে? সে বলল, কখনোই না। তবে আমি ওজন করার পর কিছুক্ষণ অপেক্ষা করে তা যাচাই করতাম না। দেখো! এটাই তাদের আবাস যারা তাদের দাঁড়িপাল্লা যাচাই করে না। আর যারা কম ওজন দেয়, তাদের অবস্থা কেমন হবে?

Thereupon, I asked him, did you give short weight? He said, never. But, I used not to wait for a while after weighing to check. Behold! This is the abode of those who do not check their scales. How about those who give short weight.

নাফি' বর্ণনা করেন যে ইবনু 'উমর (রাঃ) যখন কোনো বিক্রেতার পাশ দিয়ে যেতেন, তখন বলতেন, "আল্লাহকে ভয় করো এবং ন্যায্য পরিমাপ বা ওজন দাও।" কারণ প্রতারকরা ওজন বা পরিমাপের সময় কিয়ামতের দিন তাদের কান পর্যন্ত অর্ধেক ঘামে লাগাম পরানো অবস্থায় থাকবে।

Nafi' narrated that Ibn 'Umar who when passing by a seller used to say, “'fear Allah and give just measure or weight.” This is because the cheaters when weighing or measuring will be bridled by sweat up to half of their ears on the Day of Judgment.

কিছু প্রথমদিকের মুসলিম বলতেন, যারা মানুষের প্রাপ্য মাপে বা ওজনে এক বীজ পরিমাণও কম দেয়, তাদের জন্য আফসোস। অথচ জান্নাতের প্রশস্ততা আসমান ও জমিনের প্রশস্ততার সমান। আর যারা অন্যের কাছ থেকে এক বীজ পরিমাণও বেশি নেয় (যখন ক্রেতা নিজে ওজন করে), তাদের জন্যও আফসোস।

Some of the early Muslims said, woe to those who give short weight to others even a seed less in return for Paradise. Whose width is that of the whole of the heavens and the earth? Woe to those who take over weight from others even a seed over (if the buyer is the one who weights)
