अन्य पुस्तकें जो अंग्रेज़ी में उपलब्ध हैं, उसूल अल-फ़िक़्ह पर कई हैं, लेकिन उनकी समीक्षा करने पर स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि उनमें से अधिकतर शैक्षणिक उद्देश्यों के लिए लिखी गई हैं, न कि आम पाठक के लिए। इस संदर्भ में अबू तारिक़ हिलाल की लिखी उत्कृष्ट पुस्तक „Studies in Usul al-Fiqh" विशेष रूप से उभरकर सामने आती है। यह एक स्पष्ट और सरल शैली में लिखी गई है, जिसे आम पाठक भी आसानी से समझ सकता है।

Various books on Usul al-Fiqh are available in English, however after reviewing them it becomes clear that most are written for academic purposes rather than for the normal reader. In this regard the excellent book written by Abu Tariq Hilal entitled „Studies in Usul al-Fiqh‟ stands out. It was written in a clear simple style understandable to the average reader.

मैंने पुस्तक को थोड़ा पुनर्व्यवस्थित किया है, ताकि निश्चित स्रोत-ए-क़ानून (विधि के स्रोत) उन स्रोतों से पहले चर्चा में आएँ जिन पर विद्वानों में मतभेद है। क़ुरआन, क़ियास, इज्तिहाद और तक़लीद से संबंधित अध्याय मूल में संक्षिप्त थे। मैंने इनमें वृद्धि की है और कुछ स्थानों पर जहाँ विस्तार आवश्यक था, अनुभागों को फिर से लिखा है। इस संदेह और संशय के युग में मुझे कुछ परिभाषाओं और हदीसों के लिए कुछ शास्त्रीय प्रमाण और अत्यंत आवश्यक संदर्भ जोड़ना ज़रूरी लगा। इस संशोधित संस्करण को मूल से अलग पहचान देने के लिए एक नया शीर्षक दिया गया है, जो मूल की सादगी को बनाए रखता है।

I have slightly restructured the book so that the definitive sources of law are discussed before those upon which there is disagreement amongst the scholars. The chapters on the Quran, Qiyas, Ijtihad and Taqleed were brief in the original. I have added to these and in some cases rewritten sections where elaboration was required. In this age of doubt and scepticism I felt it necessary to add some textual evidences and much needed references for some definitions and Ahadith. To distinguish this amended version from the original a new title has been given that keeps to the simplicity of the original.

स्पष्ट है कि मूल लेखन में अबू तारिक़ ने शेख़ तक़ीउद्दीन अन-नबहानी (रह.) की उत्कृष्ट कृति „शख़्सियह इस्लामिय्यह” (The Islamic Personality) का उल्लेख किया था। मैंने भी वैसा ही किया है, और साथ ही शेख़ अता इब्न ख़लील अबू अर-रिश्ता (अल्लाह उनकी हिफ़ाज़त करे) की उत्कृष्ट पुस्तक „तैसीर अल-वुसूल इला अल-उसूल” (उसूल को आसानी से समझने के लिए) का भी संदर्भ दिया है।

It is clear that in writing the original, Abu Tariq referred to Sheikh Taqiuddin an-Nabhani‟s (ra) masterpiece „Shaksiyyah Islamiyyah‟ (The Islamic Personality). I have done the same, as well as referring to the excellent book „Teyseer al wusool Ila al-Usul‟ (To make understanding Usul easy) by Sheikh Ata ibn Khalil Abu al-Rishta (May Allah protect him).

मैं शेख़ अबू उमर अल-ख़ज़राजी का उनके समर्थन और पुस्तक की जाँच के लिए धन्यवाद करना चाहता हूँ, मौलाना उमर फ़ारूक़ नदवी का इसकी समीक्षा करने के लिए, क़ारी फ़ज़लुल करीम का अरबी भाषा में सहायता करने के लिए, तथा मेरी पत्नी शिफ़ा का उनके मूल्यवान सुझावों और समर्थन के लिए।
