As leis e os princípios islâmicos, como todas as leis, têm certos objetivos gerais e específicos que visam alcançar. Para atingir esses objetivos, as leis dirigem-se à sociedade sob um determinado conjunto de circunstâncias. Por vezes, as leis são dirigidas a todas as pessoas da sociedade em todas as circunstâncias; outras vezes, a todas as pessoas sob circunstâncias específicas; noutras ocasiões, a pessoas particulares em situações especiais; e noutras ainda, a pessoas particulares em todas as situações. Assim, a linguagem pela qual estas leis são transmitidas tem de distinguir com precisão entre os vários casos, de modo a evitar qualquer confusão e má interpretação. A língua árabe, na qual o Alcorão foi revelado, possui um número de palavras, expressões e construções gramaticais que exprimem as várias nuances de significado necessárias para esclarecer a intenção das leis. Algumas destas formas de expressão serão brevemente estudadas neste capítulo, a fim de dar ao leitor uma visão geral de alguns dos modos de expressão.

Islaamic laws and principles, like all laws, have certain general and specific goals which they are designed to achieve. In order to achieve these goals, the laws address society under a given set of circumstances. Sometimes the laws are directed to all people of the society under all circumstances, sometimes to all people under specific circumstances, at other times to particular people in special situations, and at other times to particular people in all situations. Hence, the language by which these laws are delivered has to accurately distinguish between the various cases in order to avoid any confusion and misinterpretation. The Arabic language in which the Qur’aan was conveyed has a number of words, phrases and grammatical constructions which express the various shades of meanings necessary to clarify the intent of the laws. Some of these expressions will be briefly studied in this chapter in order to give the reader a glimpse of some of the modes of expression.
