Por que a indústria da música e do cinema é tão obcecada por sexo? Dizem-nos que é porque "o sexo vende", ou seja, que as massas querem sexo, querem vê-lo e consumi-lo. Assim, essas indústrias estariam simplesmente atendendo a uma demanda já existente.

Why is the music and movie industry so sex-obsessed? We are told that it is because “sex sells,” i.e., that the masses want sex, they want to see that and consume that. So these industries are simply meeting an already existing demand.

Na realidade, essas indústrias é que criam a demanda. Elas impõem a indecência goela abaixo das pessoas até gerarem uma dependência. O mesmo acontece com a proliferação das drogas. Ninguém naturalmente quer inalar fumaça. Ninguém acorda desejando injetar substâncias químicas mortais nas veias. Ninguém naturalmente deseja beber a fermentação rançosa e podre de frutas e vegetais. Todos esses são desejos artificiais que essas indústrias gastam bilhões de dólares por ano implantando nos corações das pessoas, por meio de propaganda e outras formas de engenharia cultural, até que as pessoas passem a achar que esses desejos surgem naturalmente e, portanto, devem ser buscados e satisfeitos.

In reality, these industries are creating the demand. They are forcing shamelessness down people’s throats until they create a dependency. It works the same way with the proliferation of drugs. No one naturally wants to inhale smoke. No one wakes up wanting to inject deadly chemicals into the veins. No one naturally desires to drink the rancid, rotten fermentation of putrid fruits and vegetables. These are all artificial desires that these industries spend billions of dollars a year implanting into people’s hearts by way of advertising and other forms of cultural engineering, until people think that these desires are naturally arising and therefore must be pursued and fulfilled.

Esta é a razão pela qual a moralidade ocidental é tão naturalista. Segundo ela, o mais moral é agir de acordo com os direitos humanos naturais e os interesses humanos naturais. É nisso que se baseia o regime liberal de direitos humanos. Mas ninguém se preocupa em perguntar: afinal, quão naturais são esses direitos e interesses? E mesmo que sejam naturais, quem decidiu que somos moralmente obrigados a agir de acordo com aquilo que é "natural"?

This is why Western morality is so naturalistic. According to it, the most moral thing is to act in accordance with natural human rights and natural human interests. This is what the liberal human rights regime is predicated on. But no one cares to ask, well how natural are these rights and interests? And even if they are natural, who decided we are morally required to act in line with whatever is “natural”?
