Eu li Uma Breve História do Tempo de Stephen Hawking no ensino fundamental e achei o livro excelente. Também tive a oportunidade de vê-lo falar pessoalmente quando estava no ensino médio. Ele foi um dos divulgadores da ciência que despertaram meu interesse em estudar física, o que acabou levando à obtenção do meu diploma na área pela Universidade de Harvard.

I read Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time in middle school and thought it was great. I also got a chance to see him speak in person when I was in high school. He was one of the populizers of science who sparked my interest in studying physics that eventually led to receiving my degree in the subject from Harvard.

Sempre foi claro sobre Hawking que ele era um homem de grande fé. Não fé em Deus, porém. Ele era um ateísta convicto. Depositava sua fé na capacidade da mente humana de descobrir a "Teoria Unificada de Tudo". Tal teoria existe? Hawking acreditava firmemente que sim e, como Einstein e muitos outros físicos, dedicou sua vida à tentativa de descobri-la.

What was always clear about Hawking was that he was a man of great faith. Not faith in God, though. He was a staunch atheist. He put his faith in the human mind’s ability to discover the “Grand Unified Theory of Everything.” Does such a theory exist? Hawking strongly believed so, and like Einstein and many other physicists, he dedicated his life to attempting to discover it.
