قال الله تعالى،

الظَّنُّ، وهو ترجمة كلمة «ظنّ»، هو الرأي الذي لا أساس له، والافتراضات، والفكر الفارغ الذي لا يقوم على الحق والواقع والفهم. وقد بيّن الله تعالى بوضوح أن أكثر الناس يعيشون ويتنفسون على أساس الظن. لكنهم يزعمون زورًا أنهم على أرض صلبة، حتى إنهم يحاولون قيادة الناس. وبعبارة أخرى، يتظاهرون بالثقة ويتكلمون بسلطان، كأنهم يعرفون ما يتحدثون عنه. وبهذه الطريقة يحاولون أن يجعلوا الناس يتبعونهم في ضلالهم.

Conjecture, translated from dhann, is baseless opinion, assumptions, basically empty thought that is not grounded in truth, reality, and understanding. Allah tells us very clearly that most people live and breathe on the basis of dhann. But they incorrectly claim that they are on solid ground, so much so that they try to lead people. In other words, they put on a show of confidence and speak with authority, acting like they know what they are talking about. In this way, they try to get people to follow them in their error.

لكن يجب على المسلم أن يكون متشكّكًا تجاه هؤلاء القادة الكذبة. وحتى لو تكلّم الشخص بسلطة، أو كانت له مؤهلات علمية، أو استخدم لغة آسرة مقنعة، فليكن حذرًا. احكم بناءً على الحقائق الواضحة الثابتة في الإسلام. والأرجح أن مثل هؤلاء إنما يتكلمون عن ظنٍّ.

But the Muslim has to be skeptical of these false leaders. Even if a person speaks with authority or has credentials or uses charming, persuasive language, be careful. Judge on the basis of the manifest, undoubted truths of Islam. More likely than not, such people are only speaking from dhann.

As an example, every few years a new scientific study comes out on the "health benefits" of drinking alcohol. Secular, colonized Desis, Arabs, Persians, etc., point to these studies as proof of how backward Islam is. But inevitably, all these studies turn out to be flawed and are overturned, or their results prove ambiguous and ultimately unrepeatable and baseless. Arabic translation: على سبيل المثال، تصدر كل بضع سنوات دراسة علمية جديدة حول "الفوائد الصحية" لشرب الخمر. فيشير العلمانيون والمستعمَرون من الهنود والعرب والفرس وغيرهم إلى هذه الدراسات كدليل على تخلف الإسلام. ولكن لا مناص من أن هذه الدراسات كلها تتبين أنها معيبة وتُنقض، أو أن نتائجها تكون ملتبسة وغير قابلة للتكرار في نهاية المطاف، وباطلة لا أساس لها.
