3. وهو متجذّر في ثقافة علمانية نخبوية لا تعترف بالله ولا بالدين.
3. Is embedded in an elitist secular culture that neither recognizes God nor religion.
4. يتعرض المرء كل يوم لوسائل الإعلام والأفلام والموسيقى التي تتجاهل وجود الله أو تشكك فيه.
4. Is every day exposed to media, movies, and music that ignore or question the existence of God.
5. يعيش في وسط فكري علماني عام يُعدّ فيه التديّن ضربًا من السذاجة، والتشكيك في الدين علامةً على التنوير، ثم بعد كل ذلك يعلن بغرور، كما لو أنه، رغم كل الصعاب، قد اكتشف اكتشاف القرن: "وجدتها! لا إله!"؟

Resides in an overall secular intellectual milieu where being “religious” is tantamount to naivety and being skeptical of religion is tantamount to enlightenment, and then, after all that, arrogantly proclaims as if, against all odds, he has made the discovery of the century, “Eureka! There is no God!”?

4. يتعرض المرء كل يوم لوسائل الإعلام والأفلام والموسيقى التي تتجاهل وجود الله أو تشكك فيه، وتهاجم الإسلام على وجه الخصوص.
4. Is every day exposed to media, movies, and music that ignore or question the existence of God and attack Islam in particular.
5. يعيش في وسط فكري علماني عام يُعدّ فيه التديّن ضربًا من السذاجة، ويُعدّ التشكيك في الدين علامةً على التنوير، ويُعدّ كونه مسلمًا في أحسن الأحوال بساطةً في التفكير، وفي أسوأ الأحوال همجيةً من القرون الوسطى؟ ثم، بعد كل ذلك، يحافظ على يقينه وثقته في معتقداته الإسلامية، ويثبت رغم الضغط الجارف، كمن يقبض على جمرةٍ مشتعلة؟

Resides in an overall secular intellectual milieu where being “religious” is tantamount to naivety, being skeptical of religion is tantamount to enlightenment, and being Muslim is tantamount to simple-mindedness at best, medieval barbarity, at worst. And then, after all that, maintains conviction and confidence in his Islamic beliefs and holds firm despite the all consuming pressure, like clutching a burning ember?
