14.5 Why Be A Muslim Skeptic

La conjetura, traducida del término árabe *dhann*, es una opinión sin fundamento, suposiciones, en esencia un pensamiento vacío que no se apoya en la verdad, la realidad ni el conocimiento. Allah nos dice con mucha claridad que la mayoría de las personas viven y respiran sobre la base del *dhann*. Sin embargo, afirman falsamente que se hallan en terreno firme, tanto que intentan guiar a otros. En otras palabras, aparentan seguridad y hablan con autoridad, actuando como si supieran de lo que están hablando. De este modo, procuran que la gente los siga en su error.
Conjecture, translated from dhann, is baseless opinion, assumptions, basically empty thought that is not grounded in truth, reality, and understanding. Allah tells us very clearly that most people live and breathe on the basis of dhann. But they incorrectly claim that they are on solid ground, so much so that they try to lead people. In other words, they put on a show of confidence and speak with authority, acting like they know what they are talking about. In this way, they try to get people to follow them in their error.
Pero el musulmán debe ser escéptico con estos falsos líderes. Incluso si una persona habla con autoridad, tiene credenciales o usa un lenguaje cautivador y persuasivo, debe tener cuidado. Juzga sobre la base de las verdades manifiestas e indudables del Islam. Lo más probable es que estas personas solo estén hablando desde el dhann.
But the Muslim has to be skeptical of these false leaders. Even if a person speaks with authority or has credentials or uses charming, persuasive language, be careful. Judge on the basis of the manifest, undoubted truths of Islam. More likely than not, such people are only speaking from dhann.
Por ejemplo, cada pocos años sale un nuevo estudio científico sobre los "beneficios para la salud" de beber alcohol. Los desis, árabes, persas, etc., seculares y colonizados, señalan estos estudios como prueba de lo atrasado que es el Islam. Pero inevitablemente, todos estos estudios resultan tener fallos y son refutados, o sus resultados resultan ser ambiguos y, en última instancia, irreproducibles e infundados.
As an example, every few years a new scientific study comes out on the “health benefits” of drinking alcohol. Secular, colonized Desis, Arabs, Persians, etc., point to the studies as proof of how backwards Islam is. But inevitably, all these studies turn out to be flawed and overturned or the results turn out to be ambiguous and ultimately un-repeatable and baseless.
