[ʿAbd Allāh:] Ouvi meu pai dizer: "O Senhor da Glória apareceu-me em sonho e perguntei-Lhe como me aproximar d'Ele da melhor maneira. 91.1

[ʿAbd Allāh:] I heard my father say, “The Lord of Glory appeared to me in a dream and I asked Him how best to draw nearer to Him. 91.1

“Por Minha Palavra, Aḥmad”, disse Ele.

“‘Through my Speech, Aḥmad,’ He said.

— "Precisamos entendê-lo?", perguntei.

“‘Do we have to understand it?’ I asked.

"Ele disse: 'Funciona, quer você entenda ou não.'" [Ṣadaqah ibn al-Faḍl:] Eu viajava de Kufa para Bagdá sem nenhum dinheiro para gastar. Quando cheguei ao Canal Ṣarṣar, estava morrendo de fome. Entrei numa mesquita ali e adormeci. Acordei e encontrei um homem me cutucando com o pé. Era Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal. Com ele havia um carregador carregando pão. 91.2

“He said, ‘It works whether you understand it or not.’” [Ṣadaqah ibn al-Faḍl:] I was traveling from Kufa to Baghdad without any money to spend. By the time I reached the Ṣarṣar Canal I was starving. I went into a mosque there and fell asleep. I woke up to find a man joggling me with his foot. It was Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal. With him was a porter carrying bread. 91.2

“Noite passada tive um sonho”, disse ele. “Uma voz disse: ‘Seu amigo Ṣadaqah ibn al-Faḍl chegou de Kufa em mau estado, então vá ajudá-lo.’”

“Last night I had a dream,” he said. “A voice said, ‘Your friend Ṣadaqah ibn al- Faḍl has arrived from Kufa in a bad way so go help him.’”
