क्या तथाकथित सुधारवादी/प्रगतिशील मुसलमानों का खंडन करना आवश्यक है? इतना ज़रूरी नहीं। यदि आप उनसे बहस करने की कोशिश करते हैं, तो यह निष्फल प्रयास है, क्योंकि उनके पास कोई उसूल (usul) नहीं है। उनके पास ऐसे स्पष्ट, साफ़-साफ़ सिद्धांत नहीं हैं जिनसे वे अपनी सारी अजीब और विरोधाभासी रायें निकालते हैं। इसलिए यदि आप उन्हें किसी बात पर बाँधने की कोशिश करें, तो वे तुरंत किसी और चीज़ की ओर मुड़ जाते हैं और बातचीत कहीं नहीं पहुँचती। मैं यह अनुभव से कह रहा हूँ… और बहुत सारे माथा पीटने वाले अनुभव से भी… लेकिन उन्हें पूरी तरह ग़लत साबित करने के लिए आपको सुधारवादी/प्रगतिशील मुसलमानों से उलझने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। यह आप उनकी विचारधारा की जड़ पर हमला करके कर सकते हैं: उदारवादी, आधुनिकतावादी चिंतन। यह ऐसी चीज़ है जिस पर अपना समय लगाना सार्थक है। इसका एक उदाहरण देखिए।

Is it necessary to provide a rebuttal to so-called reformist/ progressive Muslims? Not really. If you try to engage in debate with them, it is a fruitless exercise because they have no usul. They have no clear, explicit principles they use to derive all the strange, divergent opinions they come up with. So if you try to hold them to something, they quickly pivot to something else and the conversation goes nowhere. I speak from experience… A lot of face-palming experience… But you don’t need to engage reformist/progressive Muslims in order to completely debunk everything they stand for. You do this by attacking the root of their ideology: liberal, modernist thought. That is something worth spending your time on. Consider this example.
