In de moderne tijd is Palestina-studie als wetenschappelijke discipline buitengewoon sterk gegroeid op verschillende continenten en is ze in de afgelopen decennia blijven uitbreiden, hoewel sommige van de recent opgerichte centra zich vooral richten op het moderne Palestina en het Arabisch‒Israëlische conflict. Verder spreken de moderne Europese wetenschap (en vroege Zionistische wetenschappelijke genootschappen zoals de Jewish Palestine Exploration Society, opgericht in 1914) bij het verwijzen naar de oude geschiedenis van deze regio universeel en unaniem over 'Palestina', zelfs wanneer het gaat om de Joodse geschiedenis.

In modern times Palestine Studies as a scholarly discipline has grown phenomenally across several continents and has continued to expand in recent decades – although some of the recently founded centres focus largely on modern Palestine and the Arab‒Israeli conflict. Furthermore, when referring to the ancient history of this region, modern European scholarship (and early Zionist scholarly societies such as the Jewish Palestine Exploration Society, founded in 1914) universally and unanimously talk about ‘Palestine’, even when referring to Jewish history.

De opening van het 'Heilige Land' voor de politieke en cultureel-religieuze doordringing van Europa in de 19e eeuw resulteerde in bergen publicaties over Palestina.
