A Selection Of The Verses Spoken In Praise Of Him In Life And In Commemoration Of Him In Death
[আল-হাইদামের পিতা:] 90।3
[Al-Hayḍam’s father:] 90.3
আপনি যখন শিক্ষার কথা বললেন এবং আহমাদ চলে যাওয়ার কথা বললেন।
When now you told of learning and of Aḥmad gone.
আপনি বলেছিলেন ফেনায়িত সমুদ্র শুকনো ছিল।
You might have said the foaming sea was dry.
উদার হৃদয়ের, তাকওয়ার এবং রাজকীয় কর্তৃত্বের অধিকারী।
Of a gen’rous heart, of piety and lordly sway.
এমন একজনকে আমরা হারিয়েছি যিনি ঈমানে এতটা অটল ছিলেন।
Of one so firm in faith are we bereft.
তাঁর আগমনে আপনি বসন্তের নিঃশ্বাস অনুভব করতেন।
At his approach, you felt the breath of spring.
তাঁর নামের উপযুক্তভাবেই, সকলে তাঁর প্রশংসা করে কথা বলেছেন।484
As befits his name, all spoke of him to praise.484
তাকওয়ায় তিনি সুফিয়ানের মতো ছিলেন বেশি।
Most like Sufyān in piety was he.
মিসআর কিংবা মিঈদাদও তাঁকে বেশি পিছনে ফেলে রাখেননি।
Nor did Misʿar or Miʿḍad leave him far behind.
তাঁদের মতোই তিনি অল্পই খুঁজতেন, আর সঠিক পথে পরিচালিত হতেন।
Like them, he little sought, and guided right.
নিজেকে বঞ্চিত রেখেছিলেন, আর আমাদের শিখিয়েছিলেন কীভাবে জীবনযাপন করতে হয়।
Denied himself, and showed us how to live.
এই সব কিছুতে পুরস্কার একা তাঁরই জন্য ছিল।
In all these things was his alone the prize.
এসব বিষয়ে আমরা তাঁকে অতুলনীয় বলে আখ্যায়িত করেছি।
In all these things did we him call unmatched.
ফিরে এসো! তোমার হাত ঈমানের একটি সৌধ।
Come back! Your hands an edifice of faith.
এটি তিনি নির্মাণ করেছেন, এই দুনিয়ায় বাস করার জন্য কোনো প্রাসাদ নয়।
Did build, not a palace to inhabit in this world.
তুমি কোনো ঈগল-পা বাহনের আকাঙ্ক্ষা করোনি।
You craved no eagle-footed steed.
জিনের মতো মোহনীয়, কিন্তু আকৃতিতে সুশ্রী নয় এমন দাসী।
Nor shapely slave, bewitching as the jinn.
সাজসজ্জায় সজ্জিত, আর সোনালি বুননে।
In finery bedecked, and golden weave.
বেতঝোপের মতো দুলতে দুলতে সে যখন হাঁটে।
Swaying like a cane-brake when she walks.
কিন্তু প্রত্যেকের কাছে সেই নির্ধারিত মুহূর্ত অবশ্যই আসবে, যখন মৃত্যু।
But to each must come that fateful hour when death.
আসে, পৃথিবীর বাসিন্দাদের নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য।
Arrives, the tenants of the world to lead away.
এবং এই দুনিয়া থেকে তারা কেবল একটি জিনিসই নিতে পারে।
And from this world can they but one thing take.
যে কর্মগুলো তারা আগেভাগে জমিয়ে রেখেছিল, যখন তারা তা করতে পারত।485
The deeds they stored away while yet they could.485
আল-হায়দাম তাঁর পিতার একটি কবিতা আবৃত্তি করেন, যাতে এই পঙক্তিগুলো ছিল: 90।5
Al-Hayḍam recited a poem by his father, including these lines: 90.5
যারা দুনিয়াবিমুখ, তাদের চোখের যে অশ্রু ঝরে, সেই অশ্রুর সঙ্গে আরও অশ্রু যোগ করো।
To the tears that world-renouncers weep, add tears.
এবং যারা তাদের প্রতিপালককে ভয় করে, তারা যেন তা দেখে নেয়।
And let the ones who fear their Lord behold.
আর আরও বেশি ভয় করো। তারা তোমাদের জন্য শোক করে, তাদের চোখগুলো।
And fear the more. They mourn for you, their eyes.
ঘুমহীন, তাদের একমাত্র সান্ত্বনা অশ্রু।
Bereft of sleep, their only comfort tears.
পৃথিবীর কোলে আশ্রয় নিয়েছেন উত্তম আহমাদ, দূরে।
Embraced by earth good Aḥmad lies, as far.
আমাদের থেকে যেমন হতে পারে যে কেউ। মেঘ যেন সতেজ করুক।
From us as anyone can be. May clouds refresh.
তাঁর কবর, দিন যখন বছরে পরিণত হয়, বৃষ্টিতে ভিজে যায়!486
His grave with rain as days turn into years!486
[লেখক:] তাঁর উদ্দেশে রচিত প্রশংসাগাথা ও শোকগাথার অনেক কিছুই আমি নকল করেছি, তবে এখানে কেবল কয়েকটি নির্বাচিত অংশেই নিজেকে সীমাবদ্ধ রেখেছি। আল্লাহ আমাকে সঠিক পথে পরিচালিত করুন!
