[আবূ দাউদ আস-সিজিস্তানী:] যদি কোনো ব্যক্তি ইবনে হাম্বলকে ভালোবাসে, তবে নিশ্চিত থাকতে পারো যে সে সুন্নাহ সম্পর্কে জানে। ১৪।1

[Abū Dāwūd al-Sijistānī:] If a man loves Ibn Ḥanbal, you can be sure that he knows the sunnah. 14.1

[Abū Dāwūd al-Sijistānī:] I’ve met two hundred teachers of Hadith but none like Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal. 14.2

তিনি সেসব বিষয়ে কখনো মাথা ঘামাতেন না যেগুলো অধিকাংশ মানুষের কাছে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, কিন্তু যখনই হাদীসের কথা উঠত, তিনি কথা বলতেন।

He never bothered with the things most people care about, but whenever Hadith was mentioned he would speak.

[ইবরাহীম আল-হারবী:] আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বল তাঁর সময়ের সবচেয়ে বড় মানুষ ছিলেন, ঠিক যেমন সাঈদ ইবনুল মুসাইয়্যাব ছিলেন তাঁর সময়ে, এবং সুফইয়ান আস-সাওরী ছিলেন তাঁর সময়ে। ১৪।3

[Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī:] Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal was the greatest man of his time, just as Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab was in his own time, and Sufyān al-Thawrī in his. 14.3

[ইবরাহীম আল-হারবী:] মদীনা, কূফা, বসরা ও দামেস্কের অধিবাসীদের বর্ণিত হাদীস শেষ পর্যন্ত চারজন মানুষের হাতে এসে পৌঁছায়: আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বাল, ইয়াহইয়া ইবনু মাঈন, যুহাইর ইবনু হারব এবং আবূ বকর ইবনু আবী শাইবাহ। এই চারজনের মধ্যে আহমাদ এটি সবচেয়ে ভালোভাবে বুঝেছিলেন। ১৪.4

[Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī:] The Hadith transmitted by the people of Medina, Kufa, Basra, and Damascus ended up in the hands of four men: Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, Zuhayr ibn Ḥarb, and Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah. Of the four, Aḥmad understood it best. 14.4

[মুহাম্মদ ইবনু আব্দুল্লাহ আশ-শাফিয়ী:] যখন আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বালের পুত্র সাঈদ মারা গেলেন, তখন ইবরাহীম আল-হারবী আব্দুল্লাহ ইবনু আহমাদের সাথে দেখা করতে গেলেন, এবং তিনি তাঁকে অভ্যর্থনা জানাতে উঠে দাঁড়ালেন।

[Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Shāfiʿī:] When Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal’s son Saʿīd died, Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī went to see ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad, who rose to greet him.

ইবরাহীম প্রতিবাদ করলে আব্দুল্লাহ বললেন, "আমি কেন উঠব না? আল্লাহর কসম, আমার বাবা যদি এখানে থাকতেন, তিনিও উঠতেন।" ১৪।5

When Ibrāhīm protested, ʿAbd Allāh said, “Why shouldn’t I get up? By God, if my father were here, he would too.” 14.5

“যদি ইবনু উয়াইনাহ তোমার পিতার সাক্ষাৎ পেতেন,” ইবরাহীম বললেন, “তবে তিনি তাঁকে সম্মান জানাতে উঠে দাঁড়াতেন।” [ইবরাহীম আল-হারবী:] আমি শুনেছি, মানুষ আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বালের প্রশংসা করে অথচ তারা জানে না তারা কী বলছে। কিন্তু আল্লাহর কসম, আমি এমন কোনো তাবিঈ ভাবতে পারি না যিনি তাঁর চেয়ে শ্রেষ্ঠ, আর এমন কাউকেও আমি জানি না যিনি তাঁর মতো মুসলিম হতে পারেন। আমি বিশ বছর তাঁর সান্নিধ্যে ছিলাম; আমি দিনে ও রাতে, গ্রীষ্মে ও শীতে, তাপে ও শৈত্যে তাঁর সঙ্গে থেকেছি, আর প্রতিদিনই তিনি আগের দিনের চেয়ে বেশি করে দেখাতেন। ইসলামের শীর্ষস্থানীয় আলিমগণ এবং প্রতিটি শহর ও অঞ্চলের বিদ্বানগণ তাঁকে দেখতে আসতেন। তাঁর মসজিদের বাইরে থাকা অবস্থায় তাঁরা গর্বের সঙ্গে চলাফেরা করতেন, কিন্তু ভেতরে প্রবেশ করলে তাঁরা আবার ছাত্রে পরিণত হতেন। ১৪.6

“If Ibn ʿUyaynah had met your father,” replied Ibrāhīm, “he would have gotten up to greet him.” [Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī:] I’ve heard it said that people praise Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal without knowing what they’re talking about. But by God, I can’t think of a single Successor who has anything over him, nor do I know of anyone who can be the kind of Muslim he was. I knew him for twenty years; I was with him night and day, summer and winter, in the heat and in the cold, and every day he outdid what he had done the day before. The leading scholars of Islam and the learned men of every town and region used to come to see him. As long as they were outside his mosque, they carried themselves proudly, but when they went in, they became pupils all over again. 14.6

[আল-আসরাম:] আমি একবার এক ব্যক্তির সঙ্গে তর্ক করছিলাম। সে আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল, আমি কার মতামত উদ্ধৃত করছি। আমি উত্তর দিলাম: “এমন একজনের, যার কোনো তুলনা কোথাও নেই।” ১৪.10

[Al-Athram:] I once debated a man who asked me whose opinion I was citing. I replied: “Someone who has no equal anywhere.” 14.10

“এ কে?” তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন।

“Who’s that?” he asked.

“আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বল,” আমি বললাম।

“Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal,” I said.

[ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq:] নবী ﷺ বলেছেন, "যে জানে তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করো।" তাই আমরা ইবনে হাম্বালকে জিজ্ঞাসা করতাম। তিনি তাঁর যুগের সবচেয়ে জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তি ছিলেন। ১৪।11

[ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq:] The Prophet, God bless and keep him, said “Ask someone who knows,” and so we would ask Ibn Ḥanbal. He was the most learned man of his time. 14.11

[ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq:] আহমাদ আমাদের পথপ্রদর্শক এবং জ্ঞানে সুদৃঢ়ভাবে প্রতিষ্ঠিতদের একজন। আগামীকাল আমি যখন God-এর সামনে দাঁড়াবো এবং তিনি আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করবেন আমার আদর্শ কে ছিলেন, তখন আমি বলবো, “আহমাদ।” তিনি বিশ বছর ধরে কষ্ট সয়েছেন। ইসলামের এমন কী আছে যা তিনি জানতেন না? ১৪।12

[ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq:] Aḥmad is our guide and one of those firmly grounded in knowledge.101 When I stand before God tomorrow and He asks me who my examplar was, I’ll say “Aḥmad.” The man suffered for twenty years:102 What could there be about Islam that he wouldn’t know? 14.12

[মুহাম্মাদ ইবনু জা'ফার আর-রাশিদী:] আমি একবার আবদুল ওয়াহহাব আল-ওয়াররাককে বলতে শুনেছি, "আমি আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বালের মতো কাউকে কখনো দেখিনি।" ১৪।13

[Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar al-Rāshidī:] I once heard ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq say, “I never met anyone like Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal.” 14.13

উপস্থিতরা জিজ্ঞেস করলেন: “তাহলে তাঁর এমন কী জ্ঞান ছিল যা তাঁকে আপনার দেখা অন্যান্য আলেমদের থেকে আলাদা করেছিল?” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন: “ইনি এমন একজন মানুষ ছিলেন, যিনি ষাট হাজার ভিন্ন ভিন্ন প্রশ্নের জন্য দলিল বা সূত্র উল্লেখ করতে পারতেন।”

Those present asked: “So what did he know that made him different from the other scholars you met?” “This was a man,” he replied, “who could cite an authority for sixty thousand different questions.”

[মুহান্না ইবনু ইয়াহইয়া আশ-শামী:] আমি আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বালের চেয়ে সর্বদিক থেকে অধিক গুণসম্পন্ন কাউকে কখনো দেখিনি। আমি সুফইয়ান ইবনু উয়াইনাহ, ওয়াকী', আব্দুর রাযযাক, বাকিয়্যাহ ইবনুল ওয়ালীদ, যামরাহ ইবনু রাবী'আহ এবং আরও অনেক জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তির সাক্ষাৎ পেয়েছি। কিন্তু জ্ঞান, উপলব্ধি, দুনিয়াবিমুখতা ও সতর্কতায় কেউই আহমাদের সমকক্ষ হতে পারেননি। ১৪।14

[Muhannaʾ ibn Yaḥyā l-Shāmī:] I never met anyone with as much merit in all respects as Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, and I’ve met Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, Wakīʿ, ʿAbd al-Razzāq, Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd, Ḍamrah ibn Rabīʿah, and many other men of learning. But none could match Aḥmad in knowledge, understanding, renunciation, and scrupulosity. 14.14
