[আল-হারবী:] আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বল বিবাহ, ওয়ালীমা ও খতনার অনুষ্ঠানের দাওয়াত গ্রহণ করতেন এবং যা পরিবেশন করা হতো তা আহার করতেন। 53.1

[Al-Ḥarbī:] Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal would accept invitations to marriages, weddings, and circumcisions, and eat what was served. 53.1

[আল-দাআ':] একবার এক ব্যক্তি আহমাদ ইবনু হাম্বালকে একটি অনুষ্ঠানে আমন্ত্রণ জানালেন, আর আহমাদ তা গ্রহণ করলেন। পরে তিনি সেখান থেকে সরে আসার চেষ্টা করলেন, কিন্তু লোকটি তাঁর অসম্মতি কিছুতেই মানতে চাইলেন না।

[Al-Daʿʿāʾ:] A man once invited Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal to an event and Aḥmad accepted. Later, he tried to back out of it, but the man wouldn’t take no for an answer.

অনুষ্ঠানে লোকটি গিয়ে আহমাদকে এমন একজনের পাশে বসিয়ে দিল যার সাথে তিনি বসতে চাননি। "ইবনু সীরীন, আল্লাহ তাঁর উপর রহম করুন, ঠিক বলেছিলেন," বললেন আহমাদ। "তিনি বলেছিলেন, 'কখনো এমন কিছু করে তোমার ভাইকে সম্মান করতে যেয়ো না, যা তার জন্য কষ্টের কারণ হয়।' আমার এই ভাই আমার সাথে ঠিক সেটাই করেছে।" ৫৩।2

At the event the man went and seated Aḥmad next to someone he did not want to sit with. “Ibn Sīrīn, God bless him, had it right,” said Aḥmad. “He said, ‘Never try to honor your brother by doing something that will cause him hardship.’ That’s what this brother of mine has done to me.” 53.2

[ṣāliḥ:] ইবনুল-হাকাম আল-আত্তার নামে এক ব্যক্তি ছিলেন যিনি আফফানের মজলিসে নিয়মিত যেতেন। যখন তাঁর এক ছেলের খতনার সময় হলো, তখন তিনি ইয়াহইয়া, আবু খাইসামা এবং আরও কয়েকজন হাদীসবেত্তাকে দাওয়াত দিলেন, যাঁদের মধ্যে আমার পিতাও ছিলেন। অন্যরা আগে চলে গেলেন, আর আমার পিতা ও আমি তাঁদের পেছনে পেছনে গেলাম। আমরা পৌঁছানোর পর আমাদের আরও কয়েকজন হাদীসবেত্তার সঙ্গে একটি কক্ষে বসতে দেওয়া হলো। কিছুক্ষণ পর তাঁদের একজন বললেন, "আহমাদ, এখানে রুপার তৈরি একটি জিনিস আছে।" আমার পিতা ফিরে তাকিয়ে একটি চেয়ার দেখতে পেলেন। অতঃপর তিনি উঠে চলে গেলেন, আর কক্ষের যারা তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন, সবাই তাঁর পেছনে পেছনে বেরিয়ে গেলেন। ৫৩।3

[Ṣāliḥ:] There was man called Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥakam al-ʿAṭṭār who used to frequent the circle of ʿAffān. When it came time for him to circumcise one of his sons, he invited Yaḥyā, Abū Khaythamah, and a number of other Hadith-men, including my father. The others went ahead and my father and I came along after them. When we arrived, we were given a seat in a room with several other Hadith-men. At some point one of them said, “Aḥmad, there’s something made of silver here.” My father turned and saw a chair.286 So he got up and left, and everyone who was in the room with him followed him out. 53.3

এই খবর শুনে বাড়ির মালিক আল-আত্তার দ্রুত বেরিয়ে এসে তাঁকে ধরে ফেললেন। তিনি শপথ করে বললেন যে তিনি জিনিসটি ভেতরে আনেননি এবং সেখানে সেটি আছে তা তাঁর জানা ছিল না, আর আমার পিতাকে ফিরে আসতে অনুরোধ করলেন। আমার পিতা অস্বীকার করলেন। এরপর আফফান এলে আল-আত্তার তাঁকে অনুরোধ করলেন, যেন তিনি আমার পিতার সঙ্গে কথা বলে তাঁকে ফিরিয়ে আনতে রাজি করান। আফফান তাঁর সঙ্গে কথা বললেন, কিন্তু তাতে কোনো ফল হলো না, এবং আল-আত্তার অত্যন্ত মর্মাহত হলেন।

Hearing of this, the host, al-ʿAṭṭār, rushed out and caught up with him, swearing that he hadn’t brought the item in and didn’t know it was there, and asking my father to come back. My father refused. When ʿAffān came along, al-ʿAṭṭār asked him to speak with my father and persuade him to return. ʿAffān spoke with him but it did no good, and al-ʿAṭṭār was devastated.

[আল-সাওওয়াক:] আমরা পিচ-শ্রমিকের দরজায় অবস্থিত একটি ভোজসভায় ছিলাম, এমন সময় আহমাদ ইবনে হাম্বল এলেন। ঘরে পা রাখার সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই তিনি রুপার অলংকরণ সম্বলিত একটি চেয়ার দেখতে পেলেন এবং আবার বেরিয়ে গেলেন। গৃহকর্তা তাঁর পিছু পিছু বেরিয়ে এলেন, কিন্তু আহমাদ তাঁকে হাত নেড়ে সরিয়ে দিলেন এবং চলে গেলেন, বলতে বলতে, “অগ্নিউপাসকদের আড়ম্বর! অগ্নিউপাসকদের আড়ম্বর!” 53.4

[Al-Sawwāq:] We were at the banquet at the Pitch-Worker’s Gate287 when Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal arrived. As soon as he set foot in the house, he saw a chair with silver ornamentation, and went out again. The host came out after him, but Aḥmad waved him away and left, saying, “Magian finery! Magian finery!” 53.4
