Naturalisten en atheïsten zullen elke theorie voorstellen, hoe vreemd ook, om te voorkomen dat zij de existentie van God moeten erkennen.

Waarom stellen de belangrijkste wetenschappers ter wereld deze vergezochte theorieën überhaupt voor?
Why are the world’s leading scientists proposing these far-fetched theories in the first place?
Omdat zij beseffen dat een puur fysicalistische verklaring van de wereld niet adequaat kan zijn. Zij beseffen dat een puur naturalistisch beeld geen antwoord kan geven op de grootste, meest prangende vragen. Zij erkennen dat het universum alle uiterlijke kenmerken heeft van het ontworpen en geschapen te zijn, alsof er een zekere intentionaliteit en wil achter alles schuilgaat.
Because they realize that a purely physicalist explanation of the world cannot be adequate. They realize that a purely naturalistic picture cannot answer the biggest, most pressing questions. They recognize that the universe has all the appearances of being designed, created, as if there is some intentionality and will behind it all.
Maar ze weigeren toe te geven dat wat ze werkelijk in gedachten hebben God is. Dus moeten ze met aliens, computersimulaties en andere verzinsels komen om zin te geven aan wat zinloos is voor zover het een strikt materialisme betreft. Misschien zullen ze op een dag de waarheid opgraven die ze zo hard hebben geprobeerd te verbergen.
But they refuse to admit that what they really have in mind is God. So they have to come up with aliens, computer simulations, and other just-so stories to make sense of what is nonsensical as far as a strict materialism is concerned. Maybe one day they will unbury the truth that they have worked so hard to cover.
