الف--- ولی وہ ہے جو اللہ پر ایمان لاتا ہے، اس سے ڈرتا ہے، اس کے صراطِ مستقیم کی پیروی کرتا ہے، اور اس کے رسول ﷺ کی پیروی کرتا ہے۔

A--- The Wali is the one who believes in Allah, fears Him, follows His Straight Path, and follows His Messenger (Peace be upon him).

اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے: {بے شک! اللہ کے ولیوں پر نہ کوئی خوف آئے گا اور نہ ہی وہ غمگین ہوں گے}۔ (سورۃ یونس، 62)

Allah the Almighty says: {No doubt! Verily, the Auliya' of Allah, no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve}. (Yunus, 62)

پھر وہ فرماتے ہیں: {وہ لوگ جو ایمان لائے اور اللہ سے بہت ڈرتے تھے}۔ (سورۃ یونس، 63)

Then, He says: {Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds)}. (Yunus, 63)

اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے: {اللہ ولی (سرپرست یا محافظ) ہے

Allah the Almighty says: {Allah is the Wali (Protector or Guardian)

جو ایمان لائے ہیں۔ وہ انہیں تاریکیوں سے نکال کر روشنی کی طرف لاتا ہے۔

of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light.

{لیکن جہاں تک ان لوگوں کا تعلق ہے جنہوں نے کفر کیا، تو ان کے اولیاء (مددگار اور حامی) طاغوت ہیں، جو انہیں روشنی سے نکال کر اندھیروں میں لے جاتے ہیں۔} (سورۃ البقرہ، 257)

But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliya' (supporters and helpers) are Taghut [false deities and false leaders], they bring them out from light into darkness}. (Al-Baqarah, 257)

اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے: {بے شک تمہارا ولی (سرپرست یا مددگار) اللہ، اس کا رسول اور مومنین ہیں، جو نماز قائم کرتے ہیں اور زکوٰۃ دیتے ہیں، اور وہ رکوع کرنے والے ہیں۔}

Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, your Wali (Protector or Helper) is none other than Allah, HisMessenger, and the believers, - those who perform As -Salat, and give Zakah, and they are Raki'un34.

{اور جو اللہ، اس کے رسول ﷺ اور ایمان والوں کو اپنا مددگار بنا لے، تو اللہ کا گروہ ہی غالب رہنے والا ہے۔} (سورۃ المائدہ، 55، 56)

And whosoever takes Allah, His Messenger, and those who have believed, as Protectors, then the Party of Allah will be the victorious}. (Al-Ma'idah, 55, 56)

اللہ کے رسول ﷺ نے فرمایا: "بے شک فلاں فلاں کا گھرانہ میرے اولیاء (مددگار اور حامی) نہیں ہیں، میرے اولیاء تو صرف پرہیزگار لوگ ہیں۔" [صحیح البخاری]

Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) says: "Verily, the household of so and so are not my Auliya' (helpers and protectors), my Auliya' are none but the pious people.” (Sahih Bukhari)

الحسن (اللہ ان پر رحم فرمائے) نے فرمایا: بعض لوگوں نے دعویٰ کیا کہ وہ اللہ سے محبت کرتے ہیں، چنانچہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں اس آیت کے ذریعے آزمایا: {کہہ دیجیے (اے محمد ﷺ لوگوں سے): "اگر تم اللہ سے محبت کرتے ہو تو میری پیروی کرو، اللہ تم سے محبت فرمائے گا اور تمہارے گناہ بخش دے گا۔ اور اللہ بڑا بخشنے والا، نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے}۔ [سورۃ آل عمران، 31]

Al-Hasan (May Allah grant him Mercy) said: Some people claimed that they love Allah, so He tried them with this verse: {Say (O Muhammad to mankind): "If you (really) love Allah then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful}. (Al 'Imran, 31)

امام شافعی (اللہ ان پر رحم فرمائے) نے فرمایا: اگر تم کسی ایسے شخص کو دیکھو جو پانی کی سطح پر چلے یا ہوا میں اڑتا ہو، تو اس پر یقین نہ کرنا اور نہ ہی اس کے دھوکے میں آنا یہاں تک کہ تم (یقینی طور پر) جان لو کہ وہ (سچے دل سے) پیروی کرتا ہے

Imam Ash-Shafi'i (May Allah grant him Mercy) said: If you see a man walks on the surface of water, or flies in the air, don't believe him or be misled by him till you know (for certain) that he follows (earnestly)
