Si el cargo de Califato queda vacante por la muerte de su líder, su renuncia o su destitución, es obligatorio designar a un Califa dentro de los tres días siguientes a la fecha en que el cargo de Califato quedó vacante.

If the position of the Khilafah becomes vacant due to the death of its leader, his resignation or his removal, it is obligatory to appoint a Khalifah within three days from the date that the position of the Khilafah became vacant.

El nombramiento del Jalifa se vuelve obligatorio desde el momento en que el Jalifa anterior muere o es depuesto. Sin embargo, se permite que el nombramiento se produzca dentro de tres días con sus noches, siempre que se deba a que se trabaja para lograrlo. Si transcurren más de tres noches y el Jalifa aún no ha sido nombrado, el caso se considera de la siguiente manera: si los musulmanes trabajan para establecerlo pero no logran conseguirlo durante el plazo de tres noches debido a circunstancias abrumadoras que no pueden superar, entonces el pecado les es levantado, ya que están ocupados trabajando para establecer la obligación y se ven obligados a retrasar su establecimiento por lo que les haya impuesto esa situación. Se relata de Ibn Hibban e Ibn Maya, de Ibn Abbas, que el Mensajero de Allah ﷺ dijo:

Appointing the Khalifah becomes obligatory from the moment that the previous Khalifah dies or is removed. However, it is permitted for the appointment to occur within three days with their nights as long as it is due to working to achieve it. If it takes longer than three nights and the Khalifah has still not been appointed, then the issue is considered – if the Muslims are working to establish it but are unable to achieve that during the three night time limit due to overwhelming circumstances that they are unable to overcome, then the sin is lifted from them since they are busy working to establish the obligation and are compelled to delay its establishment due to whatever forced them.
