Al-Mutashaabih é o Lafzh (expressão verbal) cujo significado pretendido está oculto ou não é claro. Sua Seeghah (forma) não indica nem orienta para aquilo que se pretende com ele. Isso significa que não há meio de compreendê-lo e que ninguém, exceto Allah (SWT), o conhece.

Al-Mutashaabih is the Lafzh (worded expression), the intended meaning of which is hidden or unclear. Its Seeghah (form) does not indicate or guide to what is intended from it. That means there is no way to comprehend it and that none except Allah (swt) knows it.

Exemplos disso que foram apresentados incluem as Huroof Al-Muqatta'ah no início das Suwar, como: ’ آلم ‘, ‘حمعسق’ e ‘كهيعص’. Eles (ou seja, alguns dos muçulmanos) também apresentaram como exemplos disso os Aayaat que tratam dos Siffaat (atributos), como o Qawl (swt) d'Ele:
