আল-কিয়াস হলো এমন একটি বিষয়কে অন্য একটি বিষয়ের সাথে শরঈ হুকমের মধ্যে যুক্ত করা, কারণ দুটি বিষয় একটি সাধারণ ‘ইল্লাহ (কারণ)-এর দিক থেকে এক, যখন সেই ‘ইল্লাহ হুকমের বা‘ইস (প্রেরণাদায়ক কারণ/হেতু) হয়।

Al-Qiyaas is the joining of a matter to another matter within the Hukm Ash-Shar’iy due to the two matters being unified in respect to the (commonly shared) ‘Illah (reasoning) in the case where the ‘Illah represents the Baa’ith (reason/cause) for the Hukm.

কিয়াস দ্বারা অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়া (তারজীহ বিল-কিয়াস) অর্থ হলো, একটি শাখাগত বিধান, যা একটি কিয়াসের মাধ্যমে গৃহীত, তাকে একই শাখাগত বিষয়ের অপর একটি বিধানের উপর প্রাধান্য দেওয়া, যা অন্য একটি দলীল থেকে অপর একটি কিয়াসের মাধ্যমে গৃহীত।

Outweighing Qiyaas means outweighing a branch Hukm taken by way of Qiyaas upon another Hukm for the same branch also taken by way of another Qiyaas from another text.
