अल-मानि' (Al-Maani') भाषाई दृष्टि से: वह जो रोकता है और किसी अन्य चीज़ को (उसके) बीच में बाधा डालता है।

Al-Maani’ linguistically: It is what prevents and is obstructive to other than it.

इस्तिलाह (पारिभाषिक अर्थ) के अनुसार अर्थ:

The meaning in accordance to the Istilaah (Terminological definition):

यह वह है जिसे शारेअ (Ash-Shaari') ने इस प्रकार निर्धारित किया है कि हुक्म (विधान) का अभाव किसी चीज़ के होने से उत्पन्न हो, या हुक्म के सबब (कारण) का अभाव उसके (किसी दूसरी चीज़ के) अस्तित्व से उत्पन्न हो, अर्थात् यदि वह (मानी या बाधक चीज़) मौजूद हो तो हुक्म मौजूद नहीं होता, या हुक्म का सबब मौजूद नहीं होता।

It is what the Shaari’ has made the absence of the Hukm resultant from its presence or the absence of the Sabab (cause) of the Hukm resultant from its existence (i.e. if it exists the Hukm does not exist or the Sabab for the Hukm does not exist).

हैज़ (मासिक धर्म) महिला की नमाज़ के लिए एक मानिअ (रुकावट) है।

Al-Haid (menstruation) is a Maani’ (preventer) for the woman’s Salaah.

कर्ज़ (ऋण) ज़कात के निसाब तक पहुँचने में एक माने (रोकने वाली चीज़) का काम करता है, यदि कर्ज़ की रकम घटाने पर संपत्ति निसाब से कम रह जाए।

The debt represents a Maani’ (preventer) for the attainment of the Nisaab of the Zakaah if the debt reduces the amount under the Nisaab.
