शरई नुसूस (पाठ), जो अरबी भाषा में उतरे और हम तक इसी भाषा में पहुँचे, इनके अलावा शरई अहकाम (अहकाम अश-शरइय्या) का इस्तिंबात (निकालना) संभव नहीं है। इसी कारण मुज्तहिद के लिए अरबी भाषा से संबंधित ज्ञान-शाखाओं को जानना अनिवार्य है: उसके कायदे (क़वाइद) और उसकी फिक़्ह (नियम और समझ)। ताकि वह भाषा-ज्ञान की उन आवश्यक शाखाओं से परिचित हो सके जो उसे इज्तिहाद करने, निष्कर्ष निकालने और नुसूस को समझने में सक्षम बनाएँ।

The Shar’iyah Nusoos (texts) were revealed and came to us in the Arabic language and it is not possible to deduce the Ahkaam Ash-Shar’iyah except by it. For that reason, it is essential for the Mujtahid to be aware of the areas of study related to the Arabic language; its principles (Qawaa’id) and its Fiqh (rules and understanding). That is so that he can be familiar with what he necessarily requires of the linguistic areas of knowledge that will enable him to perform Ijtihaad, make deductions and understand the texts.

उसूल अल-फ़िक़्ह के उलमा ने अपनी किताबों में अरबी भाषा से जुड़े कुछ मुद्दों की प्रस्तुति शामिल की है, जो उसूल अल-फ़िक़्ह पढ़ने वाले के लिए आवश्यक हैं। यह इसलिए ताकि उसूल अल-फ़िक़्ह के सिद्धांतों में बार-बार आने वाली कुछ भाषाई शब्दावलियों को समझा जा सके, जैसे कि: अल-हक़ीक़ह और अल-मजाज़, अल-हक़ीक़ह अल-‘उर्फ़िय्याह और अल-हक़ीक़ह अश-शरइय्याह, तथा अल-इश्तिराक़ और अत-तरादुफ़, और अन्य भाषाई सिद्धांत व परिभाषाएँ।
