"अत-तक़लीद" शाब्दिक रूप से किसी चीज़ को गर्दन में डालना और उसे चारों ओर से घेर लेना है। फिर इसका प्रयोग किसी मामले को किसी व्यक्ति को सौंपने या उसके ज़िम्मे डालने के लिए होने लगा, मानो उसने वह मामला उसकी गर्दन में बाँध दिया हो।

At-Taqleed linguistically is the placing of the matter in the neck with an encompassment of it. Then it is used to entrust or delegate the matter to the person, as if it has tied the matter to his neck.
