Al-Mutaschabih ist der Lafz (der Wortausdruck), dessen gemeinte Bedeutung verborgen oder unklar ist. Seine Seeghah (Form) weist nicht auf das Gemeinte hin und führt nicht dorthin. Das bedeutet, dass es keine Möglichkeit gibt, es zu erfassen, und dass niemand außer Allah (SWT) es kennt.

Al-Mutashaabih is the Lafzh (worded expression), the intended meaning of which is hidden or unclear. Its Seeghah (form) does not indicate or guide to what is intended from it. That means there is no way to comprehend it and that none except Allah (swt) knows it.

Beispiele dafür, die angeführt wurden, sind die Huruf al-Muqatta'a am Anfang der Suwar wie: „الم“, „حم عسق“ und „كهيعص“. Sie (d. h. einige Muslime) haben auch als Beispiele dafür die Ayat angeführt, die die Siffat (Eigenschaften) behandeln, wie Sein Wort (SWT):
