Ta’reef (definition of) Al-Qur’aan:
Het is de Kalaamullah (de spraak van Allah), het onnavolgbare/wonderbaarlijke, waarvan de Tilaawah (recitatie) een daad van aanbidding is, die aan Muhammad ﷺ is geopenbaard in de Arabische taal via de openbaring (Wahy) (Jibreel) in Lafzh (formulering) en Ma’naa (betekenis), en het is wat zich tussen de twee omslagen (voor- en achterzijde) van de Mushaf bevindt, dat aan ons is overgeleverd via massaal overgeleverde (Mutawatir) transmissie.
It is the Kalaamullah (the speech of Allah), the inimitable/miraculous, the Tilaawah (recital) of which is an act of worship, which was revealed upon Muhammad (saw) in the Arabic language by way of the Wahi (Jibreel) in Lafzh (wording) and Ma’naa (meaning), and it is what lies between the two covers (front and back) of the Mushaf that has been transmitted to us by Mutawaatir transmission.
De Qur’aan is afgeleid van het werkwoord 'lezen'. Allah Ta’Aalaa zei:
The Qur’aan is derived from the verb to read). Allah Ta’Aalaa said:
Voorwaar, het verzamelen ervan en het voordragen ervan is op Ons. En wanneer Wij het aan u hebben voorgedragen, volg dan de voordracht ervan (Al-Qiyaamah 17-18).
Verily, upon Us is its collection and [to make possible] its recitation. And when We have recited it to you then follow its (the Quran's) recital (Al-Qiyaamah 17- 18).
Onder de namen ervan behoren: Al-Qur’aan, Al-Kitaab, Al-Furqaan en Adh Dhikr (gedenken). Wat betreft wat sommigen beschouwen als namen van de Qur’aan, zoals Al-Majeed en Al-‘Azeez, dan zijn dit slechts beschrijvingen van de Qur’aan. Allah Ta’Aalaa zei:
Amongst its names are: Al-Qur’aan, Al-Kitaab, Al-Furqaan and Adh Dhikr. As for what some have considered to be names of the Qur’aan like Al-Majeed and Al-‘Azeez then these only represent descriptions of the Qur’aan. Allah Ta’Aalaa said:
Voorwaar, het is een Glorieuze Qur’aan (Al-Burooj 21).
Indeed, it is a Glorious Qur’aan (Al-Burooj 21).
En het is werkelijk een machtig Boek (Al-Fusillat 41).
And verily it is a Mighty Book (Al-Fusillat 41).
