Tudo o que está nos céus e na terra glorifica a Deus, Aquele que é absolutamente digno de louvor e de glorificação.

All that is in the heavens and in the earth extols God's limitless glory:

Ele é, somente Ele, o Todo-Poderoso, o Sábio. (Verso 1)

for He alone is the almighty, truly wise. (Verse 1)

O universo inteiro participa desta glorificação de Deus Todo-Poderoso, cujo poder está unido à Sua infinita sabedoria. Esta glorificação dá início a esta surata, que declara aos muçulmanos que a sua religião é a última e definitiva versão da fé divina. Eles são colocados na posição de depositários desta fé, fundada na unicidade de Deus, denunciando todo desvio praticado por descrentes e idólatras. The whole universe participates in this glorification of God Almighty whose might is combined with His infinite wisdom. This glorification begins this surah, which declares to Muslims that their religion is the last and final version of the divine faith. They are placed in a position of trustees of this faith based on God’s oneness, denouncing all deviation perpetrated by unbelievers and idolaters. Muslims are also called upon to strive in support of this faith, which God has willed to prevail over all other religions, hateful as this may be to unbelievers. This opening, thus, implies that the trust given to Muslims belongs to the entire universe; the faith they strive for is the faith of all creatures in the heavens and the earth. Hence, this religions prevalence is a universal phenomenon, one that is in line with the whole universe as it turns to God Almighty.

Um grupo de crentes é severamente repreendido por algo que fez e que era particularmente detestável para Deus. Esse comportamento era inadequado para os crentes:

A group of believers are strongly reproached for something they did that was particularly hateful to God. This was inappropriate behaviour for believers:

Ó crentes! Por que dizeis o que não fazeis? Muito odioso é aos olhos de Deus que digais o que não fazeis! Deus ama, de fato, os que combatem por Sua causa em fileiras firmes, como se fossem um edifício sólido e compacto, (versículos 2—4)

Believers! Why do you say what you do not do? Most loathsome is it in the sight of God that you say what you do not do! God loves indeed those who fight in His cause in solid ranks, as though they were a firm and compact building, (verses 2—4)

Ibn ‘Abbas relata que, antes de a Jihad ter sido tornada obrigatória, alguns crentes costumavam dizer: “Desejamos que Deus nos diga qual ação Lhe é mais amada, para que possamos praticá-la.” Deus instruiu o Seu Mensageiro ﷺ a dizer que aquilo que Deus mais ama é a crença n'Ele, uma crença que não deixa espaço para a dúvida, e o combate contra as pessoas desviadas que rejeitam a fé. No entanto, quando a Jihad foi tornada obrigatória, alguns crentes acharam-na difícil e desgostaram-na, considerando-a desagradável. Daí a revelação dos versículos que dizem: “Ó crentes! Por que dizeis o que não fazeis? Muito odioso é aos olhos de Deus que digais o que não fazeis!” (Versículos 2–3). Al-Tabari também confirmou isto no seu comentário à surata.

Ibn ‘Abbas reports that prior to making Jihad obligatory, some believers used to say: “We wish that God would tell us what action is most loved by Him, so that we could do it.” God instructed His Messenger to say that what God loves most is a belief in Him that allows no room for doubt, and striving against deviant people who reject the faith. However, when Jihad was made obligatory, a number of believers found it difficult, and they disliked it distasteful. Hence the revelation of the verses saying: “Believers! Why do you say what you do not do? Most loathsome is it in the sight of God that you say what you do not do!” (Verse 2—3) Al-Tabari also confirmed this in his commentary on the surah.

Por outro lado, Ibn Kathīr diz em seu comentário que a maioria dos eruditos concorda que esses versículos foram revelados quando alguns muçulmanos se afastaram da Jihad quando esta foi declarada um dever. On the other hand, Ibn Kathlr says in his commentary that the majority of scholars agree that these verses were revealed when some Muslims turned away from Jihad when it was declared a duty. He adds that this is the same as other verses in the Quran: “Are you not aware of those who have been told, ‘Hold back your hands [from fighting], and attend regularly to prayer, and pay your zakat [i.e. the purijying dues]?

Quando, por fim, lhes foi ordenado o combate, alguns deles temeram os homens como se deve temer a Deus — ou com um temor ainda maior — e disseram: "Senhor nosso! Por que nos ordenaste lutar? When, at length, the order for fighting was issued to them, some of them stood in awe of men as one should stand in awe of God — or in even greater awe - and said, 'Our Lord! Why have you ordered us to fight? If only You had granted us a delay for a little while!* Say, 'Briefis the enjoyment of this world, whereas the life to come is the best for all who are God-fearing. None of you shall be wronged by as much as a hairs breadth. Wherever you may be death will overtake you, even though you be in towers built up strong and high. *n (4: 77-78)

Qatadah e al-Dahhaq dizem que este versículo repreende aqueles que costumavam se vangloriar de seus feitos, alegando terem lutado e matado o inimigo, quando na verdade não o haviam feito.

Qatadah and al-Dahhaq say that this verse reproaches those who used to boast about their exploits, claiming that they had fought and killed the enemy, when they had not done so.

Olhando para esses versículos, seu contexto e a menção à luta, sentimos que a ocasião que motivou sua revelação foi aquela mencionada pela maioria dos estudiosos e por Ibn Jarir al-Tabari. No entanto, os textos do Alcorão sempre assumem dimensões que vão além dos eventos individuais que abordam. Eles também comentam muitos outros acontecimentos além da ocasião imediata. Portanto, consideramos esses versículos de acordo com o seu sentido geral, sem esquecer os eventos imediatos para os quais foram revelados.

Looking at these verses, their context and the mention of fighting, we feel that the occasion inviting their revelation was the one mentioned by the majority of scholars and by Ibn Jarir al-Tabari. However, Quranic texts always take dimensions that go beyond the individual events which they address. They also comment on many other events in addition to the immediate occasion. Therefore, we look at these verses according to their general import, without forgetting the immediate events for which they were revealed.

A surata começa, então, com uma repreensão por um comportamento em um ou mais acontecimentos reais: "Ó crentes! Por que dizeis o que não fazeis?" (Versículo 2). Em seguida, condena essa ação e a sua falta de moralidade de uma forma duplamente contundente: "Muito detestável é aos olhos de Deus que digais o que não fazeis!" (Versículo 3). The surah starts then with a reproach for behaviour in one or more actual events: “Believers! Why do you say what you do not do?” (Verse 2) It then denounces this action and its lack of morality in a doubly powerful way: “Most loathsome is it in the sight of God that you say what you do not do!” (Verse 3) What is viewed by God as most loathsome must certainly be very hate fill and repugnant. This statement is sufficient then to make believers view this in the vilest of terms, particularly as they are addressed by God as people who have accepted His religion and who believe in Him.

O versículo seguinte refere-se a esse assunto em particular, quando fizeram algo diferente daquilo que costumavam professar, a saber, a Jihad. Ele define o que Deus ama nesta questão e o que alcança o Seu agrado: "Deus certamente ama aqueles que combatem por Sua causa em fileiras firmes, como se fossem um edifício sólido e compacto" (Versículo 4). Não se trata de simples combate, mas de lutar pela causa de Deus, em união com a comunidade muçulmana, dentro das suas fileiras, com determinação e firmeza, de modo que os crentes permaneçam "em fileiras firmes, como se fossem um edifício sólido e compacto".

The next verse refers to that particular matter when they did something different to what they used to profess, namely Jihad. It defines what God likes in this question and what earns His pleasure: “God loves indeed those who fight in His cause in solid ranks, as though they were a firm and compact building” (Verse 4) This is not mere fighting, but fighting for Gods cause, in collaboration with the Muslim community, within its ranks, and with resolve and steadfastness, so that believers remain “in solid ranks, as though they were a firm and compact building”

Já dissemos em várias ocasiões que, à medida que era revelado, o Alcorão estava a prosseguir um processo de construção de uma nação. O seu objetivo era edificar uma comunidade que carregasse a responsabilidade da mensagem divina, pusesse em prática a sua abordagem e estabelecesse o seu sistema na vida humana. Para tal fim, era necessário que o Alcorão empreendesse a reforma dos seus indivíduos, estabelecesse os seus laços enquanto comunidade e a construísse como uma nação viva na prática. Tudo isto devia ser realizado ao mesmo tempo. Um muçulmano não é muçulmano se não funcionar dentro de uma comunidade. É inconcebível que o Islão seja posto em prática se não funcionar numa comunidade com laços, sistema e objetivo bem definidos. O seu objetivo último aplica-se à comunidade como um todo, mas aplica-se, ao mesmo tempo, a cada indivíduo. Este objetivo consiste em estabelecer o sistema divino nas consciências e nas práticas das pessoas na terra. Para alcançar este último, o Islão deve viver numa comunidade real que o implemente plenamente.

We have said on several occasions that as it was being revealed, the Qur’an was carrying on with a process of nation building. Its aim was to build a community that carried the trust of the divine message, implemented its approach and established its system in human life. It was necessary for this purpose that the Qur’an should undertake the reform of its individuals, establish its bonds as a community, and build it as a living nation in practice. All of this was to be accomplished at the same time. A Muslim is not a Muslim unless he functions within a community. It is inconceivable for Islam to be put into practice unless it functions in a community with well-defined bonds, a system and goal. Its ultimate goal applies to the community as a whole, but it also applies at the same time to each individual. This goal consists of establishing the divine system in people’s consciences and practices on earth. To achieve the latter, Islam must live in an actual community that implements it fully.

O Islã dá grande ênfase à consciência e à responsabilidade do indivíduo, mas certamente não é uma religião de indivíduos que se dedicam à adoração em seus respectivos cantinhos. Isso não estabelece o Islã na consciência do próprio indivíduo, muito menos em toda a sua vida. O Islã não foi revelado em tamanho isolamento. Pelo contrário, foi revelado para estabelecer seus critérios e padrões na vida humana. Ele visa deixar sua marca em cada atividade individual e coletiva, em todas as direções.

Islam places much emphasis on the individual’s conscience and responsibility, but it is certainly not a religion of individuals who dedicate themselves to worship in their respective little corners. This does not establish Islam within the individual’s own conscience, let alone in his whole life. Islam was not revealed in such isolation. Rather, it was revealed to establish its criteria and standards in human life. It aims to put its mark on every individual and collective activity in every direction.

A humanidade não vive como indivíduos isolados, mas em grupos, comunidades e nações. E o Islã deseja oferecer às pessoas as suas diretrizes à medida que conduzem suas vidas. Por isso, ele está estruturado de modo a atender as pessoas tal como elas vivem. Sua moral, seus modos, suas regras e seus sistemas são todos formulados com base nisso. Quando o Islã volta sua atenção para a consciência do indivíduo, ele a molda considerando que o indivíduo vive em uma comunidade. Tanto o indivíduo quanto a comunidade se voltam para Deus e buscam o Seu agrado. Portanto, o muçulmano trabalha dentro de sua comunidade para cumprir o encargo religioso na terra e estabelecer o sistema islâmico na vida.

Mankind do not live as individuals, but as groups, communities and nations. And Islam wants to provide people with its controls as they conduct their lives. Hence, it is so structured as to cater for people as they live. Its morality, manners, rules and systems are all formulated on this basis. When Islam directs its attention to the conscience of the individual, it moulds this conscience on the basis that the individual lives in a community. Both the individual and the community turn to God and seek His pleasure. Therefore, a Muslim works within his community to fulfil the religious trust on earth and to establish the Islamic system in life.

Desde o primeiro dia da mensagem islâmica, estabeleceu-se uma comunidade muçulmana sob a liderança do Profeta ﷺ. Os seus indivíduos tinham os seus compromissos para com a sua comunidade, que também possuía uma entidade especial que a distinguia de todas as outras comunidades. Tinha os seus valores, que se relacionavam com a consciência humana, mas que, ao mesmo tempo, se voltavam para a vida e o bem-estar da comunidade. Tudo isto aconteceu antes de se estabelecer o Estado islâmico em Medina. De facto, a formação desta comunidade foi o meio pelo qual o Estado islâmico veio a ser estabelecido posteriormente.

Right from the very first day of the Islamic message, a Muslim community was established under the leadership of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Its individuals had their commitments towards their community, which also had its special entity distinguishing it from all other communities. It had its values that related to the human conscience but which looked at the same time to the life and welfare of the community. All this took place before the Islamic state was established in Madinah. Indeed, the formation of this community was the means by which the Islamic state was later established.

Quando observamos esses três versículos, percebemos que a moralidade do indivíduo está entrelaçada com as necessidades da comunidade, sob a autoridade da fé religiosa. Por sua própria natureza, essa fé só pode funcionar plenamente na vida humana na forma de um sistema devidamente servido e protegido.

When we look at these three verses we find that the morality of the individual is intertwined with the needs of the community, under the authority of religious faith. By its very nature, this faith can function fully in human life only in the form of a system that is properly served and protected.

Os dois primeiros dos três versículos em discussão referem-se ao castigo de Deus e a uma forte repreensão contra os crentes que dizem algo que é desmentido por suas ações. Assim, esses dois versículos delineiam as qualidades extremamente importantes da veracidade e da coerência na personalidade de um muçulmano.

The first two of the three verses under discussion refer to Gods punishment and a strong censure if believers say something that is belied by their deeds. Thus, these two verses delineate the hugely important qualities of truthfulness and consistency in a Muslims personality.

Um muçulmano deve refletir a mesma imagem em seu interior e em sua aparência. Suas ações devem ser coerentes com suas palavras. Isso se aplica em todas as situações e vai muito além do chamado ao Jihad a que se refere o terceiro versículo.

A Muslim must reflect the same image in his inner self and in his appearance. His actions must be consistent with his words. This applies in all situations and goes far beyond the call to Jihad to which the third verse refers.

O Alcorão dá grande ênfase a esta característica islâmica, que também é repetidamente enfatizada na sunnah. Denunciando os judeus, Deus diz: {Ordenais vós a piedade aos outros e vos esqueceis de vós mesmos, quando recitais o Livro? The Qur’an places great emphasis on this Islamic characteristic, which is also repeatedly emphasized in the sunnah. Denouncing the Jews, God says: “ How can you bid others to piety and forget yourselves even while you are reciting the Book? Do you not understand?' (2: 44) “ They say: 'We do obey you? but when they leave you, some of them devise, in secret, something different from what you advocate." (4:81) "There is a kind of man who pleases you greatly in the present life by what he says, and he cites God as witness to what is in his heart, whereas he is the most antagonistic of adversaries.

Yet, no sooner does he turn away than he strives to spread corruption in the world, destroying crops and progeny. God does not love corruption.” (2:

204-205) O Profeta ﷺ disse: “As três características distintivas de um hipócrita são: mente quando fala, quebra suas promessas e é infiel à sua confiança.” [Relatado por al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi e al-Nasa’i] Há inúmeros ahadith que enfatizam o mesmo conceito. Talvez o hadith que citaremos agora inclua uma das diretrizes mais sutis e refinadas do Profeta ﷺ para reiterar este aspecto moral do Islã. Imam Ahmad e Abu Dawud relatam esta narração de 'Abdullah ibn 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah: “O Mensageiro de Deus ﷺ veio até nós quando eu era um menino. Eu queria sair para brincar, mas minha mãe me disse: ‘ 'Abdullah, venha, e eu te darei algo.’ O Profeta ﷺ perguntou a ela: ‘O que você quer dar a ele?’ Ela respondeu: ‘Tâmaras.’ Ele disse: ‘Se você não lhe desse nada, isso teria sido registrado contra você como uma mentira’.” Talvez o Imam Ahmad tenha se guiado por este hadith quando viajou uma longa distância para encontrar alguém a quem queria perguntar sobre outro hadith. Contudo, ao chegar à casa do homem, viu-o levantando sua túnica de um modo que sugeria à sua mula que ela continha comida, mas não havia nada na túnica. Imam Ahmad então sentiu que não deveria relatar o hadith transmitido por este homem simplesmente porque ele havia mentido à sua mula.

204-205) The Prophet says: “The three distinctive marks of a hypocrite are: he lies when he speaks, and breaks his promises, and he is untrue to his trust.” [Related by al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa’L] There are numerous ahadlth that emphasize the same concept. Perhaps the hadith we will quote now includes one of the most subtle and refined directives by the Prophet to reiterate this moral aspect of Islam. Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud relate this report by 'Abdullah ibn 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah: “Gods Messenger came to us when I was a young boy. I wanted to go out to play, but my mother said to me, ‘ 'Abdullah, come and I will give you something.’ The Prophet said to her, ‘What do you want to give him?’ She replied, ‘Dates.’ He said, ‘If you would not give him anything, it would have been recorded against you as a lie’.” Perhaps Imam Ahmad was guided by this hadith when he travelled a long distance to meet someone whom he wanted to ask about another hadith. However, when he arrived at the man’s place, he saw him raising his robe in a way that suggested to his mule that it contained food, but there was nothing in the robe. Imam Ahmad then felt that he should not report the hadith reported by this man simply because he had lied to his mule.

A consciência de um muçulmano é educada segundo um padrão moral tão elevado que forma um caráter capaz de ser confiado com o estabelecimento do sistema divino na vida humana. Isto é o que vemos nesta surata, que oferece um aspecto importante da educação da comunidade muçulmana e da sua preparação para assumir a sua grande responsabilidade.

A Muslim’s conscience is reared to such a fine moral standard so as to build the character that can be entrusted with the establishment of the divine system in human life. This is what we see in this surah, which provides an important aspect of education for the Muslim community and its preparation to shoulder its great trust.

Vamos agora considerar a questão do Jihad, à qual estes versículos se dirigiam no momento de sua revelação. Encontramos aqui diversos pontos que precisam ser devidamente apreciados.

Let us now consider the issue of Jihad which these verses addressed at the time of their revelation. We find here several points that need to be appreciated.

Vemos, em primeiro lugar, que os seres humanos podem passar por momentos de fraqueza, e é nesses momentos que precisam da ajuda de Deus para combater tais deficiências.

We see firstly that human beings may experience moments of weakness and this is when they need God’s help to combat such shortcomings.

Eles precisam de lembretes repetidos e de educação regular. Estes versículos referem-se a um grupo de muçulmanos que, segundo alguns relatos, pertencia aos Muhajirin, os primeiros muçulmanos que emigraram com o Profeta ﷺ de Makkah para Madinah. Enquanto estavam em Makkah, desejavam, com todo o entusiasmo, que Deus lhes permitisse lutar, mas foram instruídos a conter-se e a dedicar-se, em vez disso, aos seus deveres de adoração. No entanto, quando depois, em Madinah, lhes foi ordenado que lutassem, no momento considerado apropriado, adotaram uma atitude diferente: "Não reparaste naqueles a quem foi dito: 'Contende as vossas mãos [de lutar], cumpri regularmente a oração e pagai o zakat [isto é, os tributos purificadores]?' Quando, por fim, a ordem de combate lhes foi dada, alguns deles temeram os homens como se deve temer a Deus - ou com ainda maior temor - e disseram: 'Senhor nosso! Por que nos ordenaste a combater? Se ao menos nos tivesses concedido um pequeno adiamento!'" (4:77). Outros relatos sugerem que se tratava de um grupo dos muçulmanos de Madinah que perguntou qual era a ação que Deus mais ama, para a poderem praticar. No entanto, quando foram ordenados a lutar pela causa de Deus, desagradou-lhes isso.

They need repeated reminders and regular education. These verses refer to a group of Muslims who, according to some reports, belonged to the Muhajirin, the early Muslims who migrated with the Prophet from Makkah to Madinah. Whilst in Makkah, they wished, in all enthusiasm, that God would allow them to fight, but they were told to hold back and attend to their worship duties instead. However, when later in Madinah they were told to fight, at the time that was considered appropriate, they held a different attitude: "Are you not aware of those who have been told, 'Hold back your hands [from fighting], and attend regularly to prayer, and pay your zakat [i.e. the purifying dues]? When, at length, the order for fighting was issued to them, some of them stood in awe of men as one should stand in awe of God - or in even greater awe - and said, 'Our Lord! Why have you ordered us to fight! If only You had granted us a delay for a little while!”' (4: 77) Other reports suggest that they were a group of the Madinan Muslims who asked about the action God loves most so that they could perform it. However, when they were ordered to fight for God’s cause, they disliked this.

Ao refletirmos sobre isso, percebemos que encorajamento, orientação e fortalecimento constantes e repetidos são necessários para a alma humana quando enfrenta tarefas e responsabilidades difíceis. Somente com esse encorajamento repetido a alma humana consegue manter seu caminho e superar suas fraquezas, voltando seus olhos para objetivos mais elevados. Além disso, percebemos que não devemos pedir que nos sejam dados grandes objetivos quando não enfrentamos nem pressão nem dificuldade. Isso porque podemos não ser capazes de cumprir aquilo que pedimos a Deus que nos designe. Aqui, vemos alguns dos primeiros muçulmanos enfraquecerem a ponto de dizerem uma coisa e fazerem outra. Por isso, eles sofreram essa forte repreensão de Deus.

As we reflect on this, we realize that regular and repeated encouragement, directives and strengthening are all necessary for the human soul as it faces difficult tasks and responsibilities. Only with such repeated encouragement can the human soul maintain its path and overcome its weaknesses, setting its sight on higher objectives. Moreover, we realize that we must not ask to be given great goals when we face neither pressure nor difficulty. This because we may not be able to fulfil what we ask God to assign to us. Here, we see some early Muslims weakening to the extent that they say one thing and do another. Hence they faced this strong reproach from God.

Em segundo lugar, devemos refletir sobre a formulação do versículo que fala do amor de Deus por aqueles que lutam pela Sua causa em fileiras cerradas, como se fossem um edifício firme e compacto. Isto representa um profundo encorajamento a lutar pela causa de Deus. Esta declaração foi primeiramente feita para lidar com um caso de relutância e de afastamento da luta, mas esta causa imediata não altera o fato de que o encorajamento se destina a todos os tempos e a todos os povos. Secondly, we need to reflect on the phraseology of the verse that speaks of God’s love for those who fight for His cause in closed ranks, as though they were a firm and compact building. This represents profound encouragement to fight for God’s cause. This statement was first made to deal with a case of reluctance and turning away from fighting, but this immediate cause does not change the fact that the encouragement is meant for all times and all peoples. Hence, there is a definite and constant purpose behind it.

O Islã não gosta nem incentiva a luta, mas a torna um dever para os muçulmanos porque a vida a exige, e porque o propósito por trás dela é muito importante. O Islã apresenta à humanidade a versão final do sistema divino. Embora esse sistema atenda a todas as necessidades de uma natureza humana reta, ele exige que as pessoas se esforcem para se elevar ao seu padrão e para mantê-lo. Por outro lado, há inúmeras forças na terra que não gostam desse sistema e tentam miná-lo, porque ele as priva de muitos privilégios baseados em valores que o Islã considera falsos e que ele visa erradicar da vida humana. Essas forças malignas tentam explorar as fraquezas dos povos e o seu relaxamento depois que alcançaram o alto padrão ao qual o Islã os eleva.

Islam neither likes nor encourages fighting, but it makes it a duty on Muslims because life necessitates it, and because the purpose behind it is very important. Islam presents the final version of the divine system to humanity. Although this system meets all the needs of an upright human nature, it requires that people exert themselves to rise to its standard and maintain it. On the other hand, there are numerous forces on earth that dislike this system and try to undermine it, because it deprives those forces of many privileges that are based on values Islam considers false and which it aims to eradicate from human life. These evil forces try to exploit peoples weaknesses and their slackening after they have attained the high standard to which Islam elevates them.

Eles também exploram a ignorância dos povos e os valores herdados para se opor ao Islã e impedir o estabelecimento de seu sistema. O mal pode reunir grandes forças, e a falsidade costuma se vangloriar de seu poder; Satanás é, de fato, perverso e astuto. Por isso, os defensores da fé que procuram estabelecer o sistema islâmico e protegê-lo devem ser fortes, para vencer os agentes do mal e os apoiadores de Satanás. Devem ser fortes em seus valores morais e firmes em sua luta contra o mal. Devem recorrer ao combate quando ele for o único meio de garantir a liberdade de ação que promove o sistema islâmico, e a liberdade de crer nele e de implementá-lo na vida humana.

They also exploit peoples ignorance and inherited values to oppose Islam and prevent the establishment of its system. Evil can muster great forces and falsehood is wont to boast of its power; Satan is indeed wicked and cunning. Hence, the advocates of faith who try to establish the Islamic system and protect it must be strong in order to overcome the agents of evil and Satan’s supporters. They must be strong in their moral values, and tough in their fighting against evil. They must resort to combat when it is the only way to guarantee the freedom of action that promotes the Islamic system, and the freedom to believe in it and implement it in human life.

Eles lutam pela causa de Deus, e não pela própria glória ou por quaisquer laços de raça, nacionalidade, tribo ou clã. O objetivo de sua luta é que a palavra de Deus prevaleça, pois o Profeta disse: “Quem luta para que a palavra de Deus seja a mais elevada, luta pela causa de Deus ﷺ.” [Narrado por al-Bukhari e Muslim.] A palavra de Deus, neste contexto, é uma expressão de Sua vontade. Do que se manifesta a nós, seres humanos, da vontade de Deus, é aquilo que está em conformidade com o sistema que rege o universo, o qual, em sua totalidade, glorifica a Deus e O louva. A versão final da fé divina de Deus, o Islã, é aquela que se ajusta perfeitamente ao sistema universal. Ela faz com que todo o universo, incluindo os seres humanos, cumpra a lei de Deus, com exclusão de todas as outras leis.

They fight for God’s cause, not for their own glory or for any bonds of race, nationality, tribe or clan. The aim of their fight is that God’s word reigns supreme, for the Prophet says: “Whoever fights to make God’s word supreme fights for God’s cause.” [Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.] God’s word in this context is an expression of His will. What appears to us human beings, of God’s will is that which conforms to the system that operates the universe, which in its entirety glorifies God and praises Him. The final version of Gods divine faith, Islam, is the one that fits perfectly with the universal system. It makes the whole universe, including human beings, implement God’s law, to the exclusion of all other laws.

Era inevitável que esta fé fosse combatida por indivíduos, classes e estados. Era também inevitável que o Islã seguisse o seu caminho apesar de tal oposição. Por isso, tornou-se necessário que a Jihad fosse obrigatória para os muçulmanos em apoio a esta fé e com o propósito de tornar supremo na terra o verbo de Deus. Assim, Deus ama aqueles que lutam pela Sua causa com plena unidade de corações e dedicação inabalável.

It was inevitable that this faith should be opposed by individuals, classes and states. It was also inevitable that Islam should proceed along its way despite such opposition. Hence, it was necessary that Jihad should become obligatory on Muslims in support of this faith and for the purpose of making God’s word supreme on earth. Hence, God loves those who fight for His cause with complete unity of hearts and unwavering dedication.

Por fim, precisamos refletir um pouco sobre a descrição do estado em que os combatentes devem estar quando empreendem o Jihad por causa de Deus. Eles devem estar "em fileiras sólidas, como se fossem um edifício firme e compacto." (Versículo 4) Esta é uma obrigação individual cumprida de forma coletiva, ou seja,

Finally, we need to reflect a little on the description of the state fighters should be in when they undertake Jihad for Gods cause. They should be “in solid ranks, as though they were a firm and compact building.” (Verse 4) This is an individual s obligation discharged in a collective form, i.e.

em uma comunidade com um sistema claro. Isso porque aqueles que se opõem ao Islã mobilizam suas forças e tentam reunir grandes coligações contra ele. Por isso, os soldados do Islã devem enfrentar seus inimigos permanecendo em fileiras sólidas e retas. Está na natureza da fé islâmica que, quando ela triunfa, ela se move para estabelecer uma comunidade sólida. Por isso, a imagem de um crente individual, adorando a Deus sozinho, lutando e vivendo isolado, está bem distante da natureza desta fé e de seus deveres. Isto vale tanto no tempo da Jihad e da luta, quanto em um tempo em que a vitória foi conquistada e a comunidade islâmica estabelecida.

in a community with a clear system. This is because those who stand against Islam marshal their forces and try to raise great coalitions against it. Hence, the soldiers of Islam must face its enemies standing in solid and straight ranks. It is in the nature of the Islamic faith that when it triumphs it moves to establish a solid community. Hence, the image of an individual believer, worshipping God on his own, striving and living alone is far removed from the nature of this faith and its duties. This is true both at the time of Jihad and fighting, and at a time when victory has been secured and the Islamic community established.

Esta condição, que Deus ama para os crentes, retrata a natureza da sua fé e explica-lhes os marcos do seu caminho. Ilustra a natureza da estreita cooperação entre eles, como é retratada por esta imagem corânica criativa: fileiras sólidas como um edifício firme e compacto. É um edifício em que cada tijolo está firmemente colocado na sua posição, cumprindo a sua função específica. This condition, which God loves for believers, portrays the nature of their faith and explains for them the landmarks on their way. It illustrates the nature of the close cooperation between them as portrayed by this creative Quranic image: solid ranks like a firm and compact building. It is a building in which every brick is firmly placed in position, fulfilling its specific function. The whole edifice may collapse if one of its bricks moves out of place, whether forward or backward, so as not to firmly link with the one next to it in the higher or lower row or on either of its two sides. This is an expression that shows the reality, not merely gives a simile. It raises before us the nature of the Muslim community, the relations between individuals in this community, their feelings and united action within the overall system and towards a well-defined goal.

The surah moves on to speak about the history of this divine system and the stages it went through with the messages revealed before Islam:

E quando Moisés disse ao seu povo: "Ó meu povo! Por que me causais aflição, quando sabeis que sou um mensageiro de Deus enviado a vós?" Então, quando eles se desviaram, Deus fez com que seus corações se desviassem da verdade. Deus não concede Sua orientação aos iníquos. E também Jesus, filho de Maria, disse: "Ó filhos de Israel! Sou o mensageiro de Deus enviado a vós, para confirmar a Torá revelada antes de mim e para anunciar a vinda de um Mensageiro depois de mim, cujo nome será Ahmad." (Versículos 5-6)

Now when Moses spoke to his people, he said: My people! Why do you cause me grief, when you know that I am a messenger God has sent to you?' So, when they swerved from the right way, God let their hearts swerve from the truth. God does not bestow His guidance upon evildoers. And also Jesus, the son of Mary, said: ‘Children of Israel! I am God's messenger to you, [sent] to confirm the Torah revealed before me, and to give news of a Messenger that will come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad.' (Verses 5-6)

Moisés foi quem salvou os Filhos de Israel do Faraó e de sua tirania. Ele era o mensageiro de Deus para eles, seu líder e seu mestre. No entanto, o sofrimento que lhe causaram foi prolongado, assumindo muitas cores e formas. Seu esforço para colocá-los no caminho certo foi árduo, cansativo e penoso. Nos relatos que o Alcorão faz sobre Moisés e seu povo, lemos sobre os diferentes aspectos do sofrimento que eles lhe causaram e o quanto ele teve de lutar para reformar o sistema de crenças deles.

Moses was the one who saved the Children of Israel from Pharaoh and his tyranny. He was God’s messenger to them, their leader and teacher. Yet the grief that they caused him was of the extended type, taking many colours and forms. His struggle to put them on the right course was hard, tiring and trying. In the accounts the Qur’an gives of Moses and his people we read about the different aspects of the grief they caused him and how hard he had to struggle to reform their belief system.

Por exemplo, eles desencorajaram os esforços de Moisés para persuadir o Faraó a deixá-los partir livres. For example, they discouraged Moses’ efforts to persuade Pharaoh to let them go free. So whilst he exposed himself to Pharaoh’s wrath, they were safe having accepted their lot and humiliation. They even blamed Moses for worsening their plight: “ We have been oppressed before you came to us, and since you have come to us." (7: 129) The suggestion being that they did not see much good coming their way as a result of his message, or that they blamed him for this latest round of oppression.

Assim que Moisés, guiado por Deus, os livrou da humilhação do Faraó — Ele fez com que o Faraó e o seu povo se afogassem diante dos seus próprios olhos —, eles se inclinaram para um tipo de adoração semelhante à do povo do Faraó: {Fizemos atravessar os Filhos de Israel o mar; e então chegaram a um povo que se dedicava à adoração de alguns ídolos seus. No sooner did Moses, guided by God, deliver them from Pharaoh’s humiliation - He caused Pharaoh and his people to drown before their very eyes - than they inclined themselves to a type of worship akin to Pharaoh’s people: We led the Children of Israel across the sea; and thereupon they came upon people who were dedicated to the worship of some idols of theirs. Said the Children of Israel: “Moses, set up a god for us like the gods they have." (7: 138) Again, Moses had not been gone long for the appointment with his Lord to receive the tablets when the Samiri led them astray as he “produced for them the effigy of a calf, which made a lowing sound. 'This, ’ they said, 'is your deity and the deity of Moses; but he has forgotten.'" (20: 88)

Eles também estavam insatisfeitos com a comida do deserto, que era o maná e as codornizes. Assim, queixaram-se ao seu profeta: “Moisés! Não podemos mais suportar um só tipo de alimento. Peça, então, ao seu Senhor que faça brotar para nós algo do que a terra produz: ervas verdes, pepino, alho, lentilhas e cebolas.” (2: 61) Convém mencionar aqui também a vaca que eles foram obrigados a sacrificar, mas continuavam a exigir explicações, buscando desculpas e comportando-se com falta de cortesia com o seu profeta e com o seu Senhor. Repetidas vezes disseram a Moisés: “Peça por nós ao seu Senhor que nos esclareça que tipo de vaca ela deve ser.” (2: 68) “Peça por nós ao seu Senhor que nos esclareça de que cor ela deve ser.” (2: 69) “Peça por nós ao seu Senhor que nos esclareça de que tipo exato ela deve ser, pois para nós as vacas são muito parecidas.” (2: 70) Quando finalmente esgotaram suas desculpas, “sacrificaram-na, embora quase não o tivessem feito.” (2: 71)

They were also dissatisfied with their desert food, which was manna and quails. Thus they complained to their prophet: “Moses! We can no longer put up with one kind of food. Pray to your Lord, then, to bring forth for us some of what the earth produces of green herbs, cucumber, garlic, lentils and onions." (2: 61) Mention should also be made here of the cow they were required to slaughter, yet they continued to demand explanations, seeking excuses and behaving impolitely to their prophet and to their Lord. Time after time they said to Moses: “Pray on our behalf to your Lord to make plain to us what kind of cow she should be. ” (2: 68) “Pray on our behalf to your Lord to make clear to us of what colour she should be.” (2: 69) “Pray on our behalf to your Lord to make plain to us of what exact type she should be, for to us cows are much alike.” (2: 70) When finally they ran out of excuses, “ They sacrificed her, although they had almost left it undone.” (2: 71)

Eles pediram que lhes fosse designado um dia em que não trabalhariam. Mas, quando o Sábado lhes foi prescrito, violaram as suas regras. Mais tarde, quando estavam perto da Terra Santa, na qual Deus lhes dissera que entrariam, hesitaram, não ousando avançar, enquanto, ao mesmo tempo, falavam com insolência a Moisés: "Há naquela terra um povo poderoso, e certamente não entraremos nela enquanto eles dela não saírem. Se saírem, então entraremos." (5: 22) Ele continuou a encorajá-los, assegurando-lhes o grande sucesso que os aguardava, se apenas fizessem o que Deus lhes ordenara. Ainda assim, a sua insolência e descrença chegaram a novos extremos: "Disseram: Ó Moisés, nunca entraremos nela enquanto eles estiverem lá. Vai tu e o teu Senhor, e combatei, vós os dois. Nós ficaremos aqui." (5: 24)

They requested that a day be assigned to them when they would not work. But when the Sabbath was ordained for them, they violated its rules. Later, when they were close to the Holy Land, which God told them they would enter, they stalled, not daring to go forward, while at the same time they spoke insolently to Moses: “Mighty people dwell in that land, and we will surely not enter it unless they depart from it. If they do depart, then we will enter.” (5: 22) He kept encouraging them, assuring them of the great success awaiting them, if they would only do what God had bidden them to do. Nonetheless, their insolence and disbelief reached new heights: “They said, Moses, we will never go in so long as they are in it. Go forth, then, you and your Lord, and fight, both of you. We shall stay here.” (5: 24)

Eles causaram a Moisés muito mais aflição, fazendo-lhe perguntas, dando sugestões e até mesmo iniciando uma rebelião. Além disso, como relatado nos ahadith, também o acusaram falsamente. A surata menciona aqui como Moisés os repreendeu de forma amistosa: “Ó meu povo! Por que me causais aflição, sabendo vós que eu sou o Mensageiro de Deus enviado a vós?” (Versículo 5). Eles sabiam com certeza que ele era o Mensageiro de Deus, mas ele não expôs este fato de forma firme e assertiva. Em vez disso, simplesmente lhes deu um lembrete repreensivo. O resultado foi que se desviaram do caminho certo, depois de terem recebido todos os meios possíveis para nele permanecerem. Por isso, Deus os deixou se desviar ainda mais, e seus corações já não estavam aptos a receber a orientação. “Deus não concede Sua orientação aos transgressores.” (Versículo 5). Assim, sua custódia da fé divina chegou ao fim. Eles já não estavam aptos a transmitir a mensagem de Deus depois de terem se desviado tanto.

They gave Moses much more grief, putting questions to him, making suggestions, and even starting a rebellion. Furthermore, as related in ahadith, they also falsely accused him. The surah mentions here how Moses remonstrated with them in a friendly way: “My people! Why do you cause me grief, when you know that I am a messenger God has sent to you?” (Verse 5) They knew for certain that he was Gods messenger, but he did not put this fact across in a strong and assertive way. Rather, he simply gave them a remonstrating reminder. The result was that they swerved from the right way after being given every possible means of sticking to it. Hence, God let them go further astray and their hearts were no longer fit to receive guidance. “God does not bestow His guidance upon evildoers.” (Verse 5) Thus their trusteeship of the divine faith was over. They were no longer fit to carry God’s message after they had gone so far astray.

Então Jesus veio, dizendo: “Ó filhos de Israel! Eu sou o mensageiro de Deus para vós.” (Versículo 6) Ele não lhes disse que era Deus, ou o filho de Deus, ou uma manifestação de Deus. Ele era simplesmente um mensageiro enviado “para confirmar a Torá revelada antes de mim, e para anunciar a vinda de um mensageiro depois de mim, cujo nome será Ahmad” (6).

Then Jesus came, saying: “Children of Israel! I am God's messenger to you.” (Verse 6) He did not say to them that he was God or the son of God or a manifestation of God. He was simply a messenger sent “to confirm the Torah revealed before me, and to give news of a messenger that will come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad” 6)

Assim vemos como a fé divina avançou de uma etapa para a seguinte, com todas as etapas interligadas, movendo-se na mesma direção, estendendo-se do céu à terra: uma longa cadeia que avança de elo em elo. Esta é a imagem adequada, digna do desígnio e da constituição de Deus. Trata-se, basicamente, da mesma abordagem, assumindo formas ligeiramente diferentes, de acordo com o que convém às necessidades, à experiência, ao conhecimento e ao potencial da humanidade em cada etapa particular, até atingir a plena maturidade. Só então chega a última etapa, e é concedida a forma final da fé divina: perfeita, completa, dirigida a uma mente madura que se beneficiou de toda a experiência passada. Ela abre o caminho para que a mente humana funcione em todo o seu potencial, dentro do método estabelecido para o homem e para as suas capacidades.

Thus we see how the divine faith moved from one stage to the next, with all the stages interrelated, moving in the same direction, stretching from heaven to the earth: a long chain moving from link to link. This is the proper image, one worthy of Gods design and constitution. It is basically the same approach, taking slightly different forms, according to what suits the needs, experience, knowledge and potential of humanity at each particular stage, until it reaches full maturity. Only then does the last stage arrive and the final form of divine faith be given: perfect, complete, addressing a mature mind that has benefited from all past experience. It opens the way so that the human mind works to its full potential within the method set for man and his abilities.

Que Jesus anunciou a vinda iminente de Ahmad (outro nome do Profeta Muhammad ﷺ) é algo absolutamente confirmado por este versículo, quer os Evangelhos mencionem isso ou não. Note-se também que as circunstâncias em torno da redação desses Evangelhos e a forma como foram escritos os tornam totalmente não confiáveis nesta questão.

That Jesus gave the news of the impending arrival of Ahmad, (another name of the Prophet Muhammad), is absolutely confirmed by this verse, whether the Gospels mention this or not. Note also that the circumstances surrounding the writing of these Gospels and the way they were written make them totally unreliable on this issue.

O Alcorão foi recitado aos judeus e cristãos da Península Arábica, incluindo o versículo que fala do Profeta Muhammad ﷺ como "o Profeta iletrado, que eles encontrarão descrito na Torá e no Evangelho." (7:157) Alguns dos seus verdadeiros sábios que abraçaram o Islam, como 'Abdullah ibn Sallam, reconheceram esse fato, mas aconselharam-se mutuamente a ocultá-lo.

The Qur’an was read to the Jews and Christians in the Arabian Peninsula, including the verse that speaks of the Prophet Muhammad as “the unlettered Prophet whom they shall find described in the Torah and the Gospel.” (7: 157) Some of their genuine scholars who embraced Islam, such as ‘Abdullah ibn Sallam, acknowledged this fact, but they counselled each other to suppress.

Vários relatos também confirmam que os judeus aguardavam a vinda de um novo mensageiro; isso era considerado iminente. O mesmo foi afirmado por alguns sacerdotes cristãos na Arábia, que eram unitaristas e viviam em isolamento. Mas os judeus queriam que esse mensageiro fosse um dos seus. Quando Deus quis que ele pertencesse ao outro ramo da descendência de Abraão, os judeus não gostaram e se opuseram. Desnecessário dizer que a declaração do Alcorão é a palavra final sobre tais assuntos. É a última palavra.

Several reports also confirm that the Jews were awaiting the arrival of a new messenger; this was considered imminent. The same was stated by a number of Christian priests in Arabia who were Unitarians, living in isolation. But the Jews wanted this messenger to be one of their own. When God so willed that he should belong to the other branch of Abrahams seed, the Jews disliked and opposed this. Needless to say, the Quranic statement is the ultimate verdict on such matters. It is the final say.

Parece que os versículos que se seguem se preocupam sobretudo com a forma como os judeus e os cristãos receberam o Profeta mencionado nas suas escrituras. Eles são denunciados pela recepção que deram a Muhammad ﷺ e pelos seus planos para minar a mensagem nova e final que Deus quis que prevalecesse sobre todas as outras religiões.

It seems that the verses that follow are mostly concerned with the way the Jews and the Christians received the Prophet mentioned in their scriptures. They are denounced for the reception they gave Muhammad and for their designs to undermine the new and final message God willed to prevail over all other religions:

But when he came to them with all evidence of the truth, they said:

"Isto é pura feitiçaria." "Quem poderia ser mais iníquo do que aquele que inventa uma falsidade acerca de Deus, quando é apenas chamado a submeter-se a Ele? Deus não concede Sua orientação aos iníquos."

'This is plain sorcery. 'Who could be more wicked than one who invents a falsehood about God, when he is only being called upon to submit to Him? God does not bestow His guidance upon the wrongdoers.

Eles pretendem apagar a luz de Deus com as suas bocas, mas Deus completará a Sua luz, ainda que isso desagrade aos descrentes. (Versículos 6-8)

They aim to extinguish God's light with their mouths, but God will spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to the unbelievers. (Verses 6-8)

A atitude dos judeus em relação a esta nova fé foi uma combinação de hostilidade, astúcia maligna e deturpação. Eles travaram uma luta determinada contra o Islã, utilizando todos os meios e recursos, e isso continua até os dias de hoje. Lançaram acusações contra ele: "quando lhes chegou com todas as provas da verdade, disseram: Isto é magia evidente." (Versículo 6) Isso ecoa as alegações dos idólatras que não possuíam escrituras e não tinham conhecimento prévio da nova fé. Os judeus também procuraram semear a discórdia dentro da comunidade muçulmana. Em particular, tentaram criar divisão entre os Muhajirin e os Ansar em Madinah, e entre as duas tribos de Aws e Khazraj. Conspiraram com os hipócritas em certas ocasiões e com os idólatras em outras. Também se uniram ao ataque dos idólatras contra Madinah, como ocorreu na Batalha da Trincheira. Seus planos contra a nova fé incluíram também a disseminação de falsos rumores, como aconteceu no episódio conhecido como a história da calúnia, cujo principal responsável foi ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul. Mais tarde, empregaram as mesmas táticas nos acontecimentos orquestrados por ‘Abdullah ibn Saba’, que levaram ao assassinato de ‘Uthman, o terceiro Califa.

The Jews’ attitude to this new faith was a combination of hostility, evil scheming and misrepresentation. They waged a determined fight against Islam, using all means and resources, and this has continued to the present day. They levelled charges against it: “when he came to them with all evidence of the truth, they said: This is plain sorcery.” (Verse 6) This echoes the allegations of idolaters who had no scriptures and had no advance news of the new faith. The Jews also sought to create discord within the Muslim community. In particular, they tried to create division between the Muhajirin and the Ansar in Madlnah, and between the two tribes of the Aws and the Khazraj. They conspired with the hypocrites at times and with the idolaters at others. They also joined with the idolaters’ attack on Madlnah, as happened in the Battle of the Moat. Their designs against the new faith also included spreading false rumours, as happened in what is known as the story of falsehood in which the main culprit was ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul. Later, they used the same tactics in the events masterminded by ‘Abdullah ibn Saba’, which led to the assassination of ‘Uthman, the third Caliph.

Esta guerra continuou sem trégua até os dias de hoje. O sionismo e o imperialismo cristão têm continuado a conspirar contra o Islã, lançando ou apoiando agressões contra o Islã em cada geração.

This war has continued unabated until the present day. Zionism and Christian imperialism have continued to scheme against Islam, launching or supporting aggression against Islam in every generation.

Eles lançaram as Cruzadas contra o Oriente muçulmano e lutaram contra os muçulmanos em Al-Andalus, no Ocidente. Também combateram o Islã em sua região central, desferindo um ataque após outro contra o último Califado, ou seja, o Califado Otomano, a quem chamavam de "o homem doente da Europa", até conseguirem destruí-lo e dividir suas províncias. Precisavam criar falsos heróis na terra do Islã para levar adiante seus planos contra ela. Quando precisaram destruir o Califado, como último símbolo do governo islâmico, criaram na Turquia um "herói" nacional e moldaram sua imagem. Assim, as forças aliadas, que controlavam a capital otomana, recuaram diante de seu exército para fazer dele um grande herói. Dessa forma, ele conseguiu abolir o regime do Califado e a língua árabe, e separar a Turquia do restante do mundo muçulmano, transformando-a em um Estado secular. Os judeus e cristãos continuam a criar falsos heróis desse tipo sempre que sentem a necessidade de esmagar um movimento islâmico em qualquer país muçulmano e substituir os laços islâmicos por outros vínculos.

They launched the Crusades against the Muslim east, and they fought against the Muslims in Andalus in the west. They also fought against Islam in its central area launching one attack after another against the last Caliphate, i.e. the Ottoman Caliphate, which they called ‘the sick man of Europe’, until they managed to destroy it and divide its provinces. They needed to create false heroes in the land of Islam to carry out their schemes against it. When they needed to destroy the Caliphate as the last symbol of Islamic rule, they created in Turkey a national ‘hero’ and groomed his image. Thus, the Allied forces, which were in control of the Ottoman capital, retreated before his army in order to make him a great hero. In this way was he able to abolish the Caliphate regime and the Arabic language, and to separate Turkey from the rest of the Muslim world making of it a secular state. The Jews and Christians continue to create such false heroes whenever they feel the need to smash an Islamic movement in any Muslim country and replace Islamic ties with other bonds.

“Eles pretendem apagar a luz de Deus com as suas bocas, mas Deus completará a Sua luz, ainda que isso desagrade aos descrentes” (versículo 8). Este versículo expressa um fato e pinta um quadro lamentável daqueles inimigos do Islã. É verdade que costumavam dizer sobre o Profeta e sua mensagem: “Isto é pura magia”. Também é verdade que continuavam a conspirar contra o Islã, tentando minar sua base. É um quadro deplorável que vemos deles, enquanto tentam apagar a luz de Deus com um sopro de suas bocas. Quão ingênuos e fracos eles são! “Mas Deus completará a Sua luz, ainda que isso desagrade aos descrentes.” (versículo 8) Não há dúvida de que a promessa de Deus se cumprirá sempre. Ele levou Sua luz à plenitude durante a vida do Profeta Muhammad ﷺ, quando a comunidade muçulmana surgiu como uma representação viva e prática do sistema que Ele escolhera para a humanidade. Era uma religião bem definida, com características claramente delineadas, para que as gerações futuras pudessem seguir seus passos. Foi um fato da história, e não uma teoria explicada em livros.

“They aim to extinguish God's light with their mouths, but God will spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to the unbelievers” (Verse 8) This verse expresses a fact and paints a pathetic image of those enemies of Islam. It is true that they used to say about the Prophet and his message, ‘ This is plain sorcery'. It is also true that they continued to scheme against Islam, trying to undermine it. It is a pathetic picture we see of them as they try to extinguish God’s light with a blow from their mouths. How naive and weak they are! “But God will spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to the unbelievers.” (Verse 8) There is no doubt that God’s promise will always come true. He brought His light to fullness during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when the Muslim community came into being as a living and practical representation of the system He had chosen for mankind. It was a well-defined religion with clearly delineated features so that future generations could follow in its footsteps. It was a fact of history, not a theory explained in books.

Ele também levou à plenitude a Sua luz quando aperfeiçoou a graça que concedeu aos muçulmanos, escolhendo para eles o Islã como religião e tornando-a completa. Assim, eles amaram a sua religião e ansiaram por lutar pela sua causa. Qualquer um deles preferiria ser lançado ao fogo a voltar à descrença. Assim, a verdade da fé viveu nos corações das pessoas e no seu mundo. Essa verdade continua a ressurgir vez após vez, mostrando que continua viva apesar das agressões sustentadas, das intrigas repetidas e das campanhas de perseguição incessantes movidas contra o Islã e os seus seguidores. O fato é que a luz de Deus não pode ser apagada pelas bocas das pessoas, nem pode ser sufocada pelo fogo e pelas táticas de punho de ferro às quais recorrem algumas pessoas insignificantes. Pode parecer aos tiranos, aos fantoches disfarçados de heróis e aos sionistas que podem atingir este objetivo e apagar a luz de Deus, mas todos os seus esforços não darão em nada.

He also brought His light to fullness when he perfected the favour He bestowed on Muslims, choosing Islam as their religion and making it complete. Thus, they loved their religion and were keen to fight for its cause. Anyone of them would prefer to be thrown in a fire rather than revert to disbelief. Thus the truth of the faith lived in people’s hearts and in their world. This truth continues to spring up time after time, showing that it continues to live in spite of all the sustained aggression, repeated scheming and unabated persecution campaigns waged against Islam and its followers. The fact is that God’s light cannot be extinguished by people’s mouths, nor can it be stifled by fire and iron-fisted tactics to which some small people resort. It may appear to tyrants, stooges made up as heroes and to Zionists that they can achieve this goal and put out God’s light, but all their efforts will come to nothing.

É da vontade de Deus que esta religião prevaleça. Por isso, é inevitável que ela prevaleça.

It is God’s will that this religion should prevail. Hence, it is inevitable that it will:

Foi Ele quem enviou o Seu Mensageiro com a orientação e a religião da verdade, para que a faça prevalecer sobre todas as demais religiões, ainda que isso seja odioso para os idólatras. (Versículo 9)

It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may cause it to prevail over all other religions, however hateful this may be to the idolaters. (Verse 9)

Que Deus testemunha que esta religião do Islã é "orientação e a religião da verdade" é a palavra final. A vontade de Deus foi cumprida, e esta religião prevaleceu sobre todas as outras religiões. Prevaleceu por sua própria natureza enquanto religião. Nenhuma outra religião se compara a ela em sua natureza. As religiões pagãs e idólatras não conseguem resistir a ela nem por um instante. As religiões divinas, por outro lado, a encontram como sua versão final e completa.

That God testifies that this religion of Islam is 'guidance and the religion of truth" is the final word. God’s will has been fulfilled, and this religion has prevailed over all other religions. It has prevailed by its very nature as a religion. No other religion compares with it in its nature. Pagan and idolatrous religions cannot stand up to it for a moment. Divine religions, on the other hand, find it as their final and complete version.

Então, em essência, o Islam é a versão perfeita e completa dessas religiões, e preservará a sua forma pura até o fim dos tempos.

So, in essence, Islam is the perfect and complete version of these faiths, and it will preserve its pure form for the rest of time.

As religiões divinas anteriores foram distorcidas por omissões e acréscimos.

Earlier divine religions were distorted by omissions and additions.

Assim, tornaram-se incapazes de guiar a vida humana em qualquer direção. Mesmo que tivessem permanecido livres de distorção, não seriam mais do que versões anteriores da fé divina, que não atendiam às necessidades de vida sempre crescentes, pois foram destinadas por Deus a servir apenas por um tempo limitado.

Thus, they became unfit to lead human life in any direction. Even if they had remained free of distortion, they are no more than earlier versions of the divine faith which did not cater for ever-increasing life requirements, because they were intended by God to serve for a limited time only.

Isso mostra que a promessa de Deus se cumpriu do ponto de vista da natureza da fé. Quanto à vida real, a promessa de Deus se concretizou em certo momento, quando o Islã ganhou poder e estabeleceu seu próprio sistema de governo.

This shows that God’s promise has come true from the viewpoint of the nature of faith. As for real life, God’s promise was fulfilled at one time when Islam gained power and established its own system of government.

Em menos de um século, a maior parte do mundo povoado passou a estar sob o seu domínio.

Within one century, most of the populated world came under its rule.

Em seguida, espalhou-se pacificamente pela Ásia e pela África, conquistando, por meio de esforços de pregação, mais de cinco vezes o número de pessoas que a abraçaram durante os primeiros esforços de Jihad. Continua a espalhar-se sem que um único Estado a implemente plenamente, depois de o sionismo e o imperialismo cristão terem destruído, em *Fi Zilal al-Qur'an*, o último Califado na Turquia, pelas mãos do "herói" que fabricaram para esse fim. Then it moved peacefully into Asia and Africa to win, through advocacy efforts, more than five times the numbers who embraced it during the early Jihad efforts. It continues to spread without having a single state implementing it fully, after Zionism and Christian imperialism In the Shade of the Qur’an destroyed the last Caliphate in Turkey at the hands of the ‘hero* they manufactured for this purpose. It continues to spread by God’s grace, despite all the schemes devised to stop its march and undermine it, and the persecution of Islamic revivalist movements everywhere at the hands of other ‘heroes’ Zionism and imperialism create.

Esta religião continuará a ter outros papéis a desempenhar na vida da humanidade. Ela prevalecerá em cumprimento da promessa de Deus. Os esforços humanos não podem deter a vontade de Deus, por mais poderosos que sejam ou por mais perversos que sejam os seus planos de deturpação.

This religion will continue to have other roles to fulfil in the life of humanity. It will prevail in fulfilment of God’s promise. Human efforts cannot stop God’s will, no matter how powerful they may be or how wicked their schemes of misrepresentation are.

Estes versículos serviram de motivação aos crentes para carregarem a responsabilidade para a qual Deus os escolheu, depois que ela foi abandonada pelos judeus e cristãos, que não foram fiéis a ela. Estes versículos asseguram aos crentes que eles são simplesmente os meios para cumprir a vontade de Deus. Eles continuam a oferecer essa mesma motivação e segurança aos novos crentes, que estão certos de que a promessa de Deus sempre se cumprirá. Eles darão às novas gerações os mesmos motivos e a mesma segurança até que a promessa de Deus se realize mais uma vez na vida real das pessoas, se Deus quiser.

These verses served as motivation to the believers to carry the trust for which God has chosen them, after it was abandoned by the Jews and Christians who were not true to it. These verses reassure the believers that they are simply the means of fulfilling God’s will. They continue to provide such motivation and reassurance to new believers who are certain that God’s promise will always come true. They will give new generations the same motives and reassurance until God’s promise comes to be fulfilled in people’s real life once more, God willing.

Quando a história da fé foi assim delineada e o triunfo inevitável da versão final da fé divina foi prometido, o Alcorão se dirige aos crentes — tanto aos que viviam naquela época quanto às gerações posteriores — oferecendo-lhes o negócio de suas vidas. Trata-se de uma transação em que a mercadoria é a fé e o meio para alcançá-la é o Jihad:

When the history of faith has thus been outlined and the inevitable triumph the final version of the divine faith has been promised, the Qur’an addresses the believers - those living at the time and those of later generations - offering them the bargain of their lives. This is a transaction in which the merchandise is faith and the means to achieve it is Jihad:

Ó crentes! Posso indicar-vos um negócio que vos salvará de um castigo doloroso? Deveis crer em Deus e no Seu Mensageiro ﷺ, e lutar com empenho pela causa de Deus com as vossas posses e as vossas vidas. Isto é para o vosso próprio bem, se soubésseis. Ele perdoar-vos-á os vossos pecados e [na vida futura] far-vos-á entrar em jardins por entre os quais correm rios, e em moradas agradáveis nos jardins do Éden.

Believers! Shall I point out to you a bargain that will save you from grievous suffering! You are to believe in God and His Messenger, and to strive hard in God's cause with your possessions and your lives. This is for your own good, if you but knew it. He will forgive you your sins, and [in the life to come] will admit you into gardens through which running waters flow, and into goodly mansions in the gardens of Eden.

Esse é o supremo triunfo! E [Ele vos concederá] outra coisa que tanto amais: o auxílio de Deus e uma vitória que está por vir em breve.

That is the supreme triumph! And [He will grant you] yet another thing that you dearly love: help from God and a victory soon to come.

Dê as boas novas aos crentes (versículos 10-13)

Give you the good news to the believers, (verses 10-13)

O estilo empregado aqui usa uma variedade de formas, como a divisão de frases e a sua reconexão, a apresentação de uma pergunta seguida da resposta, a inversão e a transposição, tudo com o objetivo de fazer uma certa mensagem ser bem assimilada. O apelo começa com o nome da fé: "Ó crentes!" Segue-se uma pergunta inspiradora. É Deus quem faz a pergunta e aguarda a expectativa de uma resposta: "Quereis que vos indique um negócio que vos salvará de um castigo doloroso?" Quem não gostaria de saber qual é esse negócio e quais são as suas condições! No entanto, aqui o versículo termina, criando uma pausa entre duas frases para aumentar a expectativa. A resposta é dada quando o interesse por ela já foi despertado: "Crede em Deus e no Seu Mensageiro". Como eles eram verdadeiramente crentes em Deus e no Seu Mensageiro, ficam felizes por já cumprirem esta parte da resposta. "E lutai com empenho pela causa de Deus com os vossos bens e as vossas vidas." Este é o tema central da surata, e é apresentado aqui desta forma particular para reiterar uma mensagem já esclarecida. Deus sabe que os seres humanos precisam dessa repetição e dessa variedade de modos e estilos para estarem à altura da ocasião. Compreendendo isto, empenhar-se-ão ao máximo para estabelecer e preservar o sistema divino.

The style employed here uses a variety of forms, such as splitting sentences and reconnecting them, putting forward a question and providing the answer, inversion and transposition all aiming to drive a certain message home. The address starts in the name of faith, “Believers!” It is followed by an inspiring question. It is God who puts the question and holds their expectation of an answer: “Shall I point out to you a bargain that will save you from grievous suffering?” Who would not wish to know what this bargain is and what its terms are! Yet here the verse ends, providing a break between two sentences to add to the expectation. The answer is given when interest in it has been heightened: “You are to believe in God and His Messenger” Since they were truly believers in God and His Messenger, they are happy that this part of the answer is already met by them. “And to strive hard in God's cause with your possessions and your lives.” This is the main theme of the surah, and it is given here in this particular fashion to reiterate a message that has already been clarified. God knows that human beings need such repetition and variety of modes and styles in order to rise to the occasion. Realizing this, they will exert their maximum efforts to establish and preserve the divine system.

A surata vai além, apresentando o negócio de uma forma ainda mais atraente: "Isto é para o vosso bem, se o soubésseis." O conhecimento da verdade incentivará quem a conhece a procurar obter esta coisa benéfica. Mas aquilo que é referido como sendo bom para nós é apresentado com mais detalhe no versículo seguinte. Isto intensifica ainda mais o efeito; fornecer os detalhes após uma afirmação geral reforça o ponto e torna-o ainda mais desejável. "Ele vos perdoará os vossos pecados." Por si só, isto já é mais do que suficiente. Quem precisaria de qualquer recompensa adicional quando tem a certeza do perdão de Deus? Quem se recusaria a dar algo se tem a certeza de obter o perdão de Deus? Mas a graça de Deus não tem limite, pois a recompensa também inclui algo para a vida futura. Deus "vos admitirá em jardins por baixo dos quais correm rios, e em moradas agradáveis nos jardins do Éden." Este é o negócio mais lucrativo de todos, porque tudo o que é necessário para que este acordo se concretize é que um crente lute pela causa de Deus durante a sua curta vida na terra. Mesmo que isto signifique perder a vida nesta luta, ele será compensado com o paraíso e estas moradas agradáveis onde vive em bem-aventurança permanente. "Essa é a suprema vitória!" O relato desta transação parece concluir-se aqui. É, de facto, um negócio altamente lucrativo, aquele que o crente faz, trocando a vida deste mundo pela do Além. Uma pessoa que recebe um lucro dez vezes superior ao seu capital será a inveja de todos no mercado. E quanto àquele que oferece alguns dias de vida na terra, com os seus confortos limitados e restritos, para ganhar uma vida eterna com Deus, em felicidade e deleite puros que não conhecem fim?

The surah goes further, presenting the bargain in an even more attractive way: “ This is for your own good, if you but knew it” Knowledge of the truth will encourage the person who knows it to try to obtain this beneficial matter. But the thing that is referred to as being good for us is given in more detail in the next verse. This again heightens the effect even further; providing the details after a general statement drives the point home and makes it even more desirable. “He will forgive you your sins” On its own, this is more than enough. Who would need any further reward when he is assured of Gods forgiveness? Who would begrudge anything if he is certain to obtain Gods forgiveness? But Gods grace has no limit, for the reward also includes something for the life to come. God “will admit you into gardens through which running waters flow, and into goodly mansions in the gardens of Eden” This is the most profitable bargain of all, because all that is needed for this deal to be concluded is that a believer should fight for Gods cause during his short life on earth. Even if this means him losing his life in this fight, he will be compensated for it with heaven and these goodly mansions where he lives in permanent bliss. “That is the supreme triumph!” The account of this transaction appears to conclude here. It is indeed a highly profitable bargain which the believer makes, bartering the life of this world for that of the hereafter. A person who receives a profit ten times his capital will be the envy of everyone in the marketplace. What about one who puts up a few days of life on earth and its limited and narrow comforts to earn an eternal life with God in pure happiness and enjoyment that knows no end?

O acordo foi firmado entre o Profeta ﷺ e ‘Abdullah ibn Rawahah na noite em que os Ansar (os Companheiros do Profeta de Madinah) juraram-lhe apoio.

The deal was concluded between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and ‘Abdullah ibn Rawahah on the night when the Ansar (the Prophets Companions from Madlnah) pledged their support to him.

'Abdullah disse ao Profeta ﷺ: "Estabeleça as condições que desejar, para si e para o seu Senhor." Ele disse: "A minha condição para o meu Senhor é que O adores somente a Ele, sem Lhe associares parceiros. E a minha condição para mim é que te comprometas a proteger-me como proteges as tuas mulheres e os teus filhos." 'Abdullah disse: "Qual será a nossa recompensa se cumprirmos os nossos compromissos?" O Profeta ﷺ disse:

‘Abdullah said to the Prophet: “Make whatever conditions you wish, for yourself and for your Lord.” He said: “My condition for my Lord is that you worship Him alone, associating no partners with Him. And my condition for myself is that you pledge you will protect me as you protect your own womenfolk and children.” ‘Abdullah said: “What will our reward be if we honour our commitments?” The Prophet said:

"Paraíso." Eles disseram: "É um negócio lucrativo. Jamais buscaremos a liberação de nossos compromissos, nem aceitamos qualquer cancelamento." A graça de Deus é ilimitada. Ele sabe que os seres humanos sempre buscam algo próximo, neste mundo, que corresponda à natureza humana. Por isso, Ele lhes dá a boa nova do que determinou: fazer com que esta religião do Islã prevaleça neste mundo e que seu sistema e código triunfem na vida dessa mesma geração: "E [Ele vos concederá] ainda outra coisa que amais: o auxílio de Deus e uma vitória iminente. Anuncia, pois, a boa nova aos crentes." (Versículo 13)

“Paradise.” They said: “It is a profitable bargain. We will never seek release from our commitments, nor do we accept any cancellation.” Gods grace is limitless. He knows that human beings always look for something close, in this world, which fits human nature. Therefore, He gives them the happy news of what He has determined of making this religion of Islam prevail in this world, and making its system and code triumph in the life of that same generation: “And [He will grant you] yet another thing that you dearly love: help from God and a victory soon to come. Give you the good news to the believers.” (Verse 13)

Neste ponto, a transação alcança o ponto de retornos supremos, que somente Deus, cujos tesouros são inesgotáveis e cuja graça é interminável, pode conceder. O que Ele concede em troca, portanto, é o perdão, o Paraíso, uma morada agradável e a bem-aventurança eterna; e, além de todos esses ganhos, Ele concede também uma vitória que está por vir. Quem hesitaria ou se retrairia quando Deus lhe anuncia esta transação?

At this point, the bargain attains the point of supreme returns which only God, whose stores are endless, and whose grace is interminable, can give. What He gives in return, then, are forgiveness, heaven, goodly dwelling and eternal bliss, but in addition to all such profits He gives a soon-to-happen victory. Who would hold back, hesitate when God tells him of this bargain?

Com toda essa tentação e essas perspectivas promissoras, um pensamento pode muito bem nos ocorrer. Um crente que conhece o conceito islâmico de vida e do universo, que reconhece os grandes horizontes que esse conceito abre diante de nós, e que então olha para a vida sem fé, com seus interesses estreitos e seus níveis baixos, não consegue suportar a vida sem fé nem por um instante. Ele não hesitará um segundo sequer em se unir à luta pela causa de Deus, a fim de estabelecer o grande conceito de fé na vida real, para que possa viver com o restante da humanidade em sua realidade superior. Pode ser que ele não precise de nenhuma recompensa além de uma vida assim, pois a luta pela causa de Deus é, em si mesma, uma recompensa, proporcionando-nos contentamento e felicidade nesta vida. Além disso, tal crente não pode viver em um mundo desprovido de fé, e não pode permanecer ocioso, sem se esforçar para estabelecer um mundo governado pela fé. Assim, ele está fortemente motivado a lutar, não importa o que lhe aconteça em consequência disso.

With all this temptation and goodly prospects, a thought may well occur to us. A believer who knows the Islamic concept of life and the universe, and appreciates the great horizons this concept opens up before us, and then looks at life without faith, with its narrow concerns and lowly levels, cannot tolerate life without faith even for a moment. He will not hesitate for a second in joining the struggle for Gods cause in order to establish the great concept of faith in real life, so that he may live with the rest of mankind in its superior reality. It may be that he would not need to have any reward other than such a life, because the struggle for Gods cause is, in itself, a reward, giving us contentment and happiness in this life. Moreover, such a believer cannot live in a world devoid of faith, and cannot sit idle, not striving to establish a world governed by faith. Thus, he is strongly motivated to struggle, no matter what happens to him as a result.

Deus, entretanto, sabe que as pessoas podem afrouxar, que o entusiasmo pode esmorecer, que os esforços podem enfraquecer e que o amor à segurança pode levar as pessoas a aceitar o estado de coisas, mesmo que seu nível seja baixo demais. Por isso, o Alcorão aplica este tratamento, oferecendo motivação e imagens para avivar os sentimentos e o entusiasmo, valendo-se de toda ocasião e de todo meio possível para apelar aos corações e às almas humanas. Ele não se apoia apenas na fé nem em um único modo de exortação em nome dessa fé.

God, however, knows that people may slacken, and that enthusiasm may dampen, efforts may wane and love of safety may lead people to accept the status quo, even though its level is too low. Hence, the Qur’an administers this treatment, providing motivation and images to enhance feelings and enthusiasm, making use of every occasion and possible means to appeal to human hearts and souls. It does not rely merely on faith or on one mode of address in the name of this faith.

Portanto, a surata termina com um endereço novo e distintivo, e que carrega um apelo novo.

Hence, the surah ends with a new and distinctive address, and one that carries new appeal:

Crentes! Sede auxiliares [na causa] de Deus, assim como Jesus, filho de Maria, disse aos discípulos: "Quem serão meus auxiliares na causa de Deus?" Os discípulos disseram: "Nós seremos [teus] auxiliares na causa de Deus." Assim, parte dos Filhos de Israel creu, enquanto outros negaram a verdade. Mas Nós demos aos que creram força contra o seu inimigo, e foram eles que prevaleceram. (Versículo 14)

Believers! Be helpers [in the cause] of God; just as Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples: 'Who will be my helpers in God's cause?' The disciples said: 'We shall be [your] helpers in God's cause. 'And so some of the Children of Israel came to believe whereas others denied the truth. But We have given those who believed strength over their enemy and they were the ones to prevail. (Verse 14)

Os discípulos eram os alunos de Jesus Cristo. Diz-se que eram 12.

The disciples were Jesus Christ’s pupils. It is said that they were 12

homens que eram próximos dele e que se dedicavam a aprender com ele. Eles continuaram a espalhar a sua mensagem e os seus mandamentos depois de terminado o seu tempo. Este versículo não nos oferece uma história detalhada: apenas delineia uma atitude. Por isso, olhamos para ele no contexto em que é apresentado e para a finalidade que serve.

men who were close to him and who dedicated themselves to learning from him. They continued to spread his message and commandments after his term was over. This verse does not give us a detailed story: it simply outlines an attitude. Hence, we look at it in the context it is given and for the purpose it serves.

“ Ó crentes! Sede auxiliares de Deus.” (Versículo 14) Colocai-vos nesta nobre posição para a qual Ele vos eleva. Há posição mais elevada e mais nobre do que ser apoiante de Deus e da Sua causa? Este negócio confere uma honra maior do que o paraíso e a sua felicidade: sede auxiliares de Deus, “tal como Jesus, filho de Maria, disse aos discípulos: ‘Quem serão os meus auxiliares na causa de Deus?’ Os discípulos disseram:

“ Believers! Be helpers [in the cause] of God.” (Verse 14) Place yourselves in this noble position to which He elevates you. Is there a position that is higher and more noble than that of being a supporter of God and His cause? This bargain bestows an honour that is greater than heaven and its happiness: be helpers of God, “just as Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples: 'Who will be my helpers in God's cause?'The disciples said:

"'Seremos vossos auxiliares na causa de Deus.'" (Versículo 14) Eles foram escolhidos para essa tarefa e alcançaram essa honra. Jesus veio para anunciar a boa nova do último Profeta e da última religião. É natural que os seguidores de Muhammad ﷺ sejam escolhidos para essa tarefa permanente, assim como os discípulos de Cristo foram escolhidos para ela durante o seu período. Isso é claramente evidente na forma como o diálogo é apresentado neste versículo.

'We shall be [your] helpers in God's cause.'" (Verse 14) They were chosen for this task and earned this honour. Jesus came to give the news of the last Prophet and the last religion. It is only fitting that Muhammads followers should be chosen for this permanent task, just as Christs disciples were chosen for it during their period of time. This is clearly apparent in the way the dialogue is presented in this verse.

Mas qual foi o resultado então? "Alguns dos Filhos de Israel vieram a crer, enquanto outros negaram a verdade. Mas Nós demos aos que creram força contra o seu inimigo, e foram eles que prevaleceram." (Versículo 14) Esta declaração pode ser interpretada de uma de duas maneiras: ou os que creram na mensagem de Cristo são todos cristãos, quer tenham permanecido fiéis à sua forma original, quer sejam aqueles cuja fé esteve sujeita a distorção. Deus os apoiou contra os judeus que não creram n'Ele de modo algum, como se sabe pela história. Ou então os crentes eram apenas aqueles que continuaram a crer na unicidade de Deus em desafio aos que atribuíram a Jesus um estatuto divino, aos que creram na Trindade, ou aos que se desviaram de alguma outra forma. Os crentes prevaleceram na argumentação, apresentando provas irrefutáveis. Alternativamente, podemos entender o versículo como significando que aqueles que continuaram a crer na unicidade de Deus foram apoiados pela última religião que confirmou as suas crenças. Deus assegurou a vitória final a esta religião, como aconteceu na história. Este último sentido é talvez o mais provável.

But what was the result then? “Some of the Children of Israel came to believe whereas others denied the truth. But We have given those who believed strength over their enemy and they were the ones to prevail." (Verse 14) This statement may be interpreted in one of two ways: either the believers in Christs message are all Christians, whether they remained faithful to its original form or they are those whose faith was subject to distortion. God supported them over the Jews who did not believe in Him at all, as known from history. Or the believers were only those who continued to believe in Gods oneness in defiance of those who gave Jesus divine status, those who believed in the Trinity, or those who deviated in some other way. The believers prevailed in argument, giving irrefutable evidence. Alternatively, we may understand the verse as meaning that those who continued to believe in Gods oneness were supported by the last religion that endorsed their beliefs. God has made the final victory assured to this religion, as happened in history. This last sense is perhaps the most probable.

O objetivo deste último discurso é fortalecer a determinação dos crentes na última religião, os herdeiros da mensagem divina. São eles os encarregados de uma grande tarefa, a saber, a implementação do sistema de Deus na terra. São encorajados a avançar para apoiar a causa de Deus:

The aim of this last address is to strengthen the resolve of the believers in the last religion, the heirs of the divine message. They are the ones charged with a great task, namely the implementation of God s system on earth. They are encouraged to come forward to support Gods cause:

assim como Jesus, filho de Maria, disse aos discípulos: "Quem serão meus auxiliares na causa de Deus?" Os discípulos disseram: "Nós seremos vossos auxiliares na causa de Deus." A vitória final é assegurada aos crentes que apoiam a causa de Deus.

“just as Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples: 'Who will be my helpers in God's cause?'The disciples said: 'We shall be [your] helpers in God's cause.'" Eventual victory is assured for believers who support Gods cause.

Assim, a sura conclui com um versículo que se harmoniza com o contexto geral e o encadeamento da sura, mas que possui uma coloração e um efeito especiais. Ele enriquece uma já rica variedade de colorações e efeitos.

Thus the surah concludes with a verse that fits the general context and drift of the surah, yet has a special colour and effect. It enriches an already rich variety of colours and effects.
